oh please please can someone tell me how to cure my ridiculous dry crusty nose (around my nostrils)... I only get the dryness there and at the corners of my mouth but its soooooo flaky and gross... lypsil is AMAZING for my lips and cetaphil is great for the rest of my face... but its just not strong enough for those areas... Any ideas? What's aquaphor like for that kind of thing? Any suggestions most welcome!!! HELP!! x x x

YESSS! Aquaphor did absolutely nothing for me. Vaseline was instant relief, but carmax healed it the fastest for me. I seriously recommend vaseline on the lips though! And, as awkward as it sounds, around your nostril lining at night with a Q-tip if you have a dry nose/nosebleeds.
As for the corners of your nose, moisturize constantly, especially with any brand that is "ultra-calming" or specially made for eczema. Aveeno is my personal favorite
And, I know a lot of people probably disagree, but I think the Cetaphil moisturizer really isn't that great with the redness/severe dryness. However, I do use it at night. I used aveeno in the mornings and it helps a lot, ever since I started using it 😉
DAY 65
Soooooooo pretty similar today... Still 2 actives (don't worry chart fans they are being logged paha!). One is under my earlobe (!?) dont really care about him.... and one on my chin the same place I've ad one for aaaaaaaaaaaages... i think its cos I keep touching my chin to feel how smooth it is...then I feel the lump and I'm like...oh yeah there's a lump there.... and I pick dry skin around it...then I feel the lump some more..then I realise I am a bad person and stop.
Hopefully my pigmentation is fading.... but as I'm concentrating on it more and not the spots that used to be there it seems more and more obvious!!
Tried EVOO on a Q-tip for my nose/mouth corner dryness... It worked pretty well.... if not better than other moisturisers but is a little messy.. Right now I'm trying this 'cracked heel' cream I had in my drawer as its super moisturising with urea in it...it works well so far but worried if it spreads from those areas it will cause some spots...also.... My nose smells like a foot.
Hope everyones good and not getting too much of the accutane / January blues x x x
DAY 66
POOOOOOOOOO Knew it was coming but I've now got about 4/5 actives today.... ahhhh bums.....I bloody hate you chart...
At least they're not huge ones... more whiteheady than cysty but still quite 'long timers'... ....they're nice and symetrical too... 2 chin 2 jaw haha... maybe its cos I keep stroking my once smooth chin/jawline...must not touch.
hmmmm I can't wait for that day where I stop breaking out...literally cannot wait.... I hope it happens :/ starting to doubt it ever will !!!
OK when in doubt.... science.... science will help me...science is my friend... so I have to get the chart back on side... I looked at the average number of days between the 'worst' days (i.e. the peaks) and it averages out at 16 days.... my last worst day was at 50 days....plus 16 is....66... well whaddya know thats today...so I'm gna tell myself that today is my newest worst day and its gonna get better after today...I love you again chart....teehee talk about manipulating data to make it what you want it to be!!!! Good ol' statistics...
IM GOING INSANE.
Seriously, that's one awesome chart! You totally predicted it as well! Can you predict this week's lottery numbers? I'll happily split the winnings with you!
Got to love it when things are symmetrical. It always used to make me laugh because I'd think, 'Not only can I play dot-to-dot on my face, now the bloody things have put together a formation dance troupe or something!' That, or I'd get all OCD about it if one side wasn't quite the same as the other. Yeah, there's no wonder this stuff sends us insane!
Anyway, fingers crossed that this particular breakout doesn't harass you for too long. I'm certain you'll stop breaking out sooner rather than later. I mean, your pictures show that things are starting to slow down so I guess it's a gradual process. Time and patience, you'll get there.
P.S. lottery numbers!
Hahaha i actually did a tiny lol at the dance troupe formation image...amd im not a lol type person teehee! So today i got a ''your skin is looking fantastic'' fom a coursemate and a ''wow your spots have like really gone down'' from my cousin...so even though i have 3 actives i'm pretty happy, and seal is on tv... Seal also makes me happy... Right then....cool. x x
DAY 68
Only 2/3 pimples now...hopefully they're going down as chart predicts...but my face just feels a bit active" today like something awful is about to happen...
Positive positive stay positive... another 2 skin compliments today from coursemates who've said that the pill seems to bereally working for me...I feel like I still look AWFUL...How terrible must I have looked before...and its not like I don't wear make up
Found my miracle nose rescue...had some Lucas Pawpaw ointment in my drawer from years ago when a friend brought me some back from Oz...I saw someone on here commented about it so thought id dig it out and give it ago and it works great to keep noseflakes away completely!
Srill loving the sebamed I could kiss its gentle little self...lypsil will have my eternal gratitude...and cetaphil remains steadily good at all day moisturisation...its defo n ot helping with my tons of PIH though...hmmm when I stop breaking out I may use something else but I'm too scared to try anything at the moment!!
WHEN WILL I GET THAT DAY OF 0 PIMPLES?????....I've had days of just 1 but I literally cant wait for that day of 'Quiescence'!!
Happy Sundays x x
Yay on the skin compliments! I had my first one a few days ago...I had a really hard time thinking that they could possibly be serious, yet another nasty side effect from having acne for so long. You become incredibly jaded!
I can't remember...but are you taking supplements at all? Fish oil, zinc...etc

No not taking any nutritional supplements... just probiotics one a day...you? x x

I'm taking like...a million. I'm taking flax seed oil, fish oil omega 3, zinc (which has always helped my skin), calcium, vitamin C, vitamin E, vitamin D, a hair skin and nails vitamin and glucosomine (to help with the joint pain - I only started taking this when I got on the tane). I'm not sure if any of them actually help but I've had such minimal side effects I'm scared to stop taking any of them!

Ahh good for you! I was scared to take anything as for every one that has good effects you find some post or other saying "NEVER TAKE THIS WITH ACCUTANE" and they went purple or something haha...I've had minimal side effects too so I hope to be ok for the rest of my course x x x
DAY 70
2 actives today! One forehead one on that pesky chin...keep getting one in the same place there... but none on cheeks still! Can't belive I have none on my cheeks as they've been my most awful areas since my acne started years ago...
I never thought I'd be at this point where the hyperpigmentation is my main concern now... I used to read others logs dreaming of that point and being like "I can't believe they're worried about that when I' sat here with 20 actives... " But now I understand haha!!
This is a million times better than spots though for sure!!!
My face still is a bit odd though... on my jawline I've got loads of non painful non active bumps... I can't tell if they're old spots going away or new lumps where spots would normally come up, but instead are just being non painful lumpy bits.... if you see what I mean? Does anyone else have this?
DAY 71
Argh!! I really feel like the dark lord of acne must read these logs...No sooner had I said that I haven't had any on my cheeks for weeks... one lovely smakcker pops up on my left cheek...its pretty small.... but ITS STILL A CHEEK ACTIVE... pooooooooooooo.
Today I will be 50% through my minimum cumulative dosage..... hmmph.... can't complain... its just that I'm sooo terrified of each new spot as I now realise how long the bright red shadow he leaves behind will take to heal... on my left I don't even have definition between the PIH..its just a big red blob and this new fellow is RIGHT in the middle of it...gonna try and not touch him....

For how many months are you going to be taking this drug? What is the typical amount of time?
Typical time varies from about 4-7 months I think... it depends on your daily dosage and your weight... what are you on?
To get my minimum cumulative dosage would be 4 and a half months (would take me up to the end of March) but I'm hoping to be on it for at least 5 months to make sure it's well and truly gone.... My side effects are very minimal so far so if my blood tests are ok and I can handle it I'll push for it!! x x

Hi,
I am also 125 pounds, but was on 30 mgs for the first AND second months. I am now on month 5. I am pretty much clear, but I do want to stay on it longer just to make sure everything stays away for good. I just visited my dermatologist and she said she may give me more pills when I go back for month six. I'm a little bit behind on my pills right now, but I am 70% of the way through my total minimum cumulative dosage. Given all of that, I am mentally ready to get off of these pills. My side effects have been very minimal, but I am tired of them, and I'm tired of the constant doctors visits and blood draws. I'm also extremely curious to see what my skin will be like once I am off of this stuff. Anyways, after a few more weeks, I may start tapering off my dosage, just so I can keep the good side effects for as long as possible (like not having to wash my hair!).

Oooh good for you! Sounds like It's all working out well for you...:) Yeah 6 months sounds about right I'd say....I feel as long as I can handle the effects I'm gonna try and get as close to the 150mg/kg as I can... but as long as I'm over 120 mg/kg should be fine.... and I might change my mind in a couple of months time when I'm fed up of the whole debarcle.
...It's still a novelty to me at the moment haha!!
PS - the curiosity of what happens when we're off the drug terrifies me....!!

DAY 74
Sooo happyyyy (again!)..... Today I have NO ACTIVES.... I can't believe it this hasn't happened for sooo long.
Of course I have lots hyperpigmentation and that chin spot is a scab now but hey...... happy days. I'm sure there's plenty more actives to come but it looks like I'm on the right path??
Did someone say chart?
Looks like my line of best fit is pretty well on exactly the same as on last chart....still headed for that 'quiescence' at about day 90.... hmmmm we'll see!!
x x
I just had a wicked laugh about your chart!! I am a scientist too and logic, numbers, and stats have helped me through my course. I am on day 36, the first 30 at 30mg/day and the last week or so at 60mg/day. The whole up/down/up/down is annoying and exhausting, but I know patience and persistence are key! Good luck! Love your sense of humor. Ya gotta have it for this journey!

Haha thanks! Chart likes being appreciated... I know how sad it is.... but like you say, stats and stuff really helps me log my progresss and keep me going through this!! Good luck to you too!! 😉
I just edited my day 1 pics, as I finally realised how to get pics to show up in my log (not just links to pics).... and looking at them I can't believe I counted that as 9 actives right and 4 actives left... there seems way more than that...my chart should be much more dramatic than it looks haha!
I think its down to the fact when you have massive cysts you don't cound little whiteheads and smaller spots...just the big f***ers which hurt... now I count any imperfections!!
I must say, although you do indeed seem to have a lot of hyperpigmentation (I do as well, possibly worse than you!), this is quite a huge improvement over the pictures you posted of yourself earlier in your treatment. It looks like Isotrentinoin is working. Kudos! Still being in the first month of treatment, I can still only dream of such results. Keep the pictures coming!
