Update - My lips are completely back to normal. It's so nice!
Also, the itchy arms have disappeared, finally. My scalp is just now tolerating regular shampoo again.
My heel pain is gone.
I'm still very stiff all over and having joint/muscle pain.
My face is still nice and dry (HOORAY) and no acne anywhere. (YES!!!)
Bad things: because the accutane is still in my system, it predisposed me to hyperacuity in my ears. Just suddenly, out of nowhere, my hearing became distorted last wednesday. The ENT I went to explained that it was almost always caused my medication, so that must be it.
Also, my knee is starting to act up...there is a sore spot on it and it seems like I have a swollen part on my knee. Very odd....never happened to me before.
Oh well.....I'll update again soon.
3 weeks post accutane:
My hair is still shedding the way it did during the course....abnormally high shedding.
My face is just now starting to feel a tad oily.
My scalp is getting some oil back, but is still pretty dry.
Lips are back to normal, face is flaking a bit.
I'm having some knee discomfort after working out on the treadmill which I know is part of accutane's aches and pains. The other aches and pains have dissipated, though. HOpefully they are on their way out, never to return again.
And of course, no acne to speak of. Not even during my period. SO awesome.
POST ACCUTANE - 3.5 weeks
-Got two zits - small- one on my back and one on my cheek. They aren't inflamed or big, not even very red. HOpefully they will just disappear in a few days. It is so strange to have a zit on my face after not having any for 6 months.
My knees are hurting still. My stiffness is mostly gone. I hope my knee pain is the last to go.
My hair is still shedding at a rate I don't like........
2 year post-accutane update!
The good:
-acne is still gone
-back never flared up again
-skin not as oily as it once was - i still have to moisturize!
-Until I went back and read my old posts I completely forgot about all the side effects I went through.
-I love my new skin, and I got to keep it after all.
-when i get a zit on my face it is tiny and not inflamed, and it just kind of evaporates on its own within a day or two.
- I have had only one "big" zit in the last two years and it wasn't even that big.
-I still use retin-a just in case, though.
The not-so-good:
- my knees have never been the same, they are creaky. No pain, just creaky...
- my hair still sheds more rapidly than it ever did pre-accutane, and I have reason to think it is thinner all around.
- my lips are still on the dry side- and will forever be this way, I'm sure.
HOWEVER....if i had the option to go back in time and make the choice to do 'tane or not....I would DEFINITELY still do it. I basically was given the gift of brand-new skin.
Lastly, if for some reason I needed to take accutane for a second time in the future, I wouldn't do it. I won't do it a second time. I strongly doubt I will ever need it again, but if for some reason it was offered to me again, I wouldn't. I feel like I narrowly escaped from scary permanent damage to my body.
