Wow even better!

I want you to go look at the pre-tane pictures of yourself and take a long hard look, then I want you to bring up the current pictures of yourself and see what huge improvement you have made.

Hey... GREAT improvement.

I was wondering how you got rid of your red marks. Yours seemed to just disappear. I have ones that are impossible to get rid of. Do you mosturize every day?

Thanks

I've been a passive admirer of your log ;) , but after seeing your last pics, I was so happy for you so i decided to post this. Your skin has improved tremendously and I am ridiculously happy for you. As an acne sufferer i know what acne can do to you and your personality. Seeing your log, I can see that you are a positive person despite your acne, and now i am glad you have a wonderful skin to match your wonderful personality. I wish you the best.

thanks november!

As for red marks there definitely still there its just hard to tell from the pics because my whole face has a flushed color for some reason, im guessing the tane. However i do moisturize with cetaphil cream like twice a day, and 100% aloe vera gel every once in a while.

Thanks for the response....

Does the aloe dry you out? I used to use it as a cleanser and it dried me out, but maybe leaving it on like a mosturizer is different.

Thanks :catdance:

Hey Ranger, just a short bio of myself.

I have had acne for about 3 years (Im only 15)

Yea...I actually started getting acne at 12 (wtf?) But anyways, it wasn't much just a bump or whatever. But then I started to get extreme cystic body acne (Like your previous face.) Currently I live in the shadows and am constantly reminded of what people see in me when the following scenario plays out:

I am sitting, doing something...

A girl sees me and we meet eyes, I guess they think I am cute so they walk over.

They get closer and see the real me...the acne me (Actually not the real me, the real me is acne free :D) and they leave. I can't say I blame them. I will be starting Accutane very soon (I weight about 160) So I will be doing probably 60-80mg. I don't mind if the IB is bad, because the school year is 3/5s over and if I start taking it now I should be 100% clear by next year, which would be a godsend.

Thanks for inspiring me to take the Miracle Drug.

P.S. I will probably start a blog here!

Hey Ranger, I noticed your log a few months back and took it upon myself to finally read it. As stated many times before me, you have a terrific outlook on life and your optimism is very inspiring. I'm also in University, currently on my third month of Accutane and I hope to achieve amazing results similar to your own. You've clearly drawn a crowd of inspired individuals, keep it up man!

Thanks everyone

I usually did aloe overnight, and then woke up in the morning showered and then moisturized with cetaphil so it probably dried me out but it wasnt a big deal for me.

good luck bob sounds, but you might not get the dosage you expect it all depends on your derm. It took me til month 4 for my doc to give me 60mg and you saw how bad it was in the beginning. Just do a couple things and you'll be golden. Drink a ton of water! Like carry a gallon jug with you, and you'll avoid some dryness, and it keeps you hydrated. Wash yo linens! Pillow cases especially, because if your stuff was as bad as mine you'll be putting P. Acnes all over them and just spreading it. Dont over exercise! This stuff will hit your joints and it will hit them hard. Every time you do anything strenuous its going to be like you just ran a marathon with an elephant on your back. If you give at least a days rest in between you'll be good. Dont try and play through it by burying the pain with Ibuprofen, because you'll just compound it and make it 10X worse. Post your pictures! It might be embaressing or scary to you, but the BEST thing I did was post my pictures because not only could people give me accurate information based off them, but apparently it inspires other people. Good luck!

Anyways as for the ladies its interesting, bc i planned on not trying to do the relationship thing (i'm not a hookup person as yall know) bc i'll be transfering after this semester. Even so I've had some close incounters with some bold/drunk ladies who looked past the face bc i was funny, and respectful, and not a drunken idiot. Also this experience has been interesting bc i no longer give flying flip about what i look like. Before some people have said I was pretty good looking etc and I tended to be a vain egocentric asswipe who looked in every reflective surface. Now I really dont care how I look or how others see me(as made obvious by the forest on my face) and its really letting me find myself.

As for when I'll be done I'm not sure yet. This month is supposed to be the last one originally, but i've been having some deep cystic flare ups randomly on my chest. So i'm not sure how its going to work out.

PS stay away from the booze if you can, and your liver will thank me :)

Mate, I am so pleased for you dude, you really have made an enormous personal journey and you have the results to show for it! I know from your blog that you have great self-belief and that you try not to let circumstance get you down, and I really admire that. I still have massive panic antics even when my acne isnt bad and I somehow convince myself that everyone I come across is staring at me. How do you get over those moments when life gets you down? any tips? cheers.

Thanks for the honesty NickE I know it looks terrible, and i've considered just shaving it and just taking my scars being visible, but every time i try I wuss out and dont do it. By the next pictures it will be trimmed if not gone.

For Ledzep

Well when this all first happened I too had this paranoia that everyone was staring at me, but i realized that while some maybe looking at my acne other were probably looking at me bc i was just acting wierd. Also i said this way back in the beginning of my log, dont think of yourself if you can as having acne, just be yourself and act as if you were all still clear silky smooth skin and things will change you'll start messing with your face less, you'll be less panicky, you see girls stealing glances at you and know they are talking about how funny and confident you are. But in times that i have this nagging terrible feeling of impending doom or depression, I'll write it out on a piece of paper just in every which direction overlapping scribbles and chicken scratch until i feel that I have gotten it all out and then ill tear that page out of my comp book and light it up with my black matte zippo. Its kind of symbolic and it might only work for me, but you have to just let it go in your mind and in your heart or else it will just compound and build pressure until it just blows up and you have a panic attack. Does that make sense if not PM me and I'll try and explain it better for ya

Thanks for the advice Rc, I've always been particularly conscious of my acne because none of my friends have had to suffer from it, so they dont understand when i feel depressed or withdrawn when for them there is no cause for me to be like that.

And i guess at the end of the day they're probably right. I've given up so many opportunites because of my insecurities about acne- travelling, getting a job, playing team sports (which i used to love). At some point you've just got to stand up and ask yourself, is this how i want my life to be? cheers very much for the advice man, u've really inspired me on how to approach dealing with acne!

haha i wonder what the reason was ... its definitely easier staying abstinent now that most girls dont look at me in that way lol. There is a cute girl that sits in front of me in Astronomy that has been very friendly, but i vowed no dating freshman year so i try not to flirt too much :( .

Alright you are going on the tane, welcome to the journey! Things i suggest you invest in:

-Cetaphil non comeodomic Moisturiser cream 16 oz tub (Most Important! this will last you months on end. Rub some in any time you feel dry or flaky)

-Ibuprofen (you arent supposed to take tylenol bc of liver stress and will reduce inflammation. It really helps with the soreness in the joints and lower back which can be pretty bad after strenuous workouts)

-Burts Bees Replenishing Lip Balm w/ pomegranite (This stuff will cure the worst chapped lips. It miraculous stuff)

-100% Aloe Gel (optional but for red marks it works really well)

Lifestyle Suggestions

- No alcohol (it stress your liver which will already be under tremendous strain, and it dehydrates you which just dries you out even more. If for some reason you MUST drink then keep it light and afterwards drink a ton of water)

- Space out exercise or keep it light (if you go hard day after day after day then it will compound. I learned first hand when i woke up one morning and could barely walk to the bathroom)

- Drink lots of water (i've begun to carry a half gallon water bottle that i refill at least two or three times)

Good luck! i hope everything goes well for you and may i suggest you start a log, and if you feel up to it post pictures bc they empower our brethren and they help us help you. Looking forward to seeing you around :)

RC ...

You mentioned 100% aloe gel at the end of your list. I've seen it used typically for sunburns, so I could see how it would help with the healing process ... but are you using it now that you have less active acne, or in conjunction with your other moisturizers? If so, how are you layering it amoungst your face lotion -- over, under?

i put it on before i go to the bed and sleep with it overnight. It dries you out a little bit, but i take a shower and moisturize in morning anyways so it doesnt really bother me.

Hey, Ranger! I just found your blog today, and read the whole thing at once. ;)

This is kind of hard to explain, but isn't it funny how some people, even with terrible acne, can still have really GREAT skin in-between the inflamed areas? I mean, the parts of your skin that ARE clear are amazingly clear...like a baby's bottom, as they say. Look all around your eyes/forehead/nose bridge, for instance...that is where most people have damaged skin. But yours is healthy and vibrant, with no lines, no white/blackheads, no redness, or furrows.

So, looking at your pictures, the good thing is - although your face has already come a long way so far in healing, the entire time you still have good quality skin as a whole. This means a better chance to bounce back, so in all probability, you will heal extremely well. The quality of your skin is still young and elastic, you don't have any discoloration on the healthy areas. The "good" skin is really good, your pores are not overly large, and even the scarring you've showed us doesn't look deep enough to cause any permanent worry.

As for how we look not being important, it's still tough to be labeled as "the guy with acne" (or the girl in my case). But here's a milestone! I don't think your skin is bad enough any more to be labeled by strangers as "that acne guy". (now you're probably "that bearded dude")

You already know you're a great looking guy. I think your eyes are your best feature, and since you probably won't be wearing makeup to enhance them, a simple primping action you can do is to tweeze your brows. For some reason, this simple action helps my psyche. It really opens up the eyes, and that's really what people look at most. There's nothing to lose...you've already proven you can take the pain!

Nice to meet you! And I love your whole "they see what you show them" concept. So true!

Oh...and not to spam you, but one more thing... (like Columbo says).

Surprisingly, Mystic tanning (where the machine sprays you) seems to clear my skin pretty well. I never thought about it, but when you mentioned the aloe vera, maybe that's what's doing it. It any case, it's an instant glow. I just use a level 1 or 2 in the winter time, because I'd look funny if I were too tan.

I just updated my profile to add my regimen & a before/after shot. For lighter skinned people, a TINY bit of mario badescu drying lotion offers a nice cover to a dark red spot. It dries a whitish/pink so this only works if you use a little, and have light skin to begin with. But it's a nice medicinal cover, especially for those who don't use a cosmetic coverup. :D

Hey Ranger. I read your log when you first started and your most recent photos are about 50% better than your pre-accutane photos...especially in the chin area. It is obvious that there's much less inflammation. You've been on it for about 5 months? How much more longer is your treatment? It seems like you should be on it for at least another 3-4? Best of luck.
