My Regimen Log

I started a log of my experience on the regime under "personal logs" not realizing that there was a specific page for regimen personal logs so I will start over and put it on this page so that maybe more people will respond and be able to help me out!

So I like many people here on acne.org have tried countless things to improve my skin; drug store cleansers, three step systems, birth control pills, antibiodics, dermatologist perscribed gel/creams, tazorac, oil cleansing method, different home remidies and accutane not once not twice but three times!!!!!!! Needless to say none of this has worked at all!! My acne is not very sever more of a mild sort but extremly stubborn! I have never gone a day with no pimples in years and years!!

Needless to say due to my lack of success with anything I am having and extremly hard time believing that this regimen will clear me up! So fat I am two weeks and five days into it and the results so far are absolutely horrible!!! My face is soooo dry/crusty/flakey/disgusting! I know this is to be expected but it's so brutal right now! On top of that my skin is breaking out horribly my chin is a mess more pimples on my chin in one day then I normally have in a month or more. I know that there is an initial breakout or purge period is to be expect just like with many other treatment I have been on. I have never had an initial break out using other things (accutane, tazorac) that has been this bad. On top of the dryness and breaking out older pimples are healing at such a slow pace it's really annoying!

As much as I'm not really expecting this to help I'm really hopefull that it will! I will post everyday and hopefully I am able to help someone out and also hopefully others can help me out along my journey as well!!

Thanks!

The first few weeks of the regimen are definitely tough - but it is worth it in the end in my opinion! I've been on the regimen for about 2 months and it has really helped to improve my skin. Are you using the acne.org products? Even if you're not, still remember to go slowly with increasing the BP! This is really important - otherwise you'll just be causing more irritation for your skin. And it really is more important to let your skin adjust to the BP in the first few weeks than to see results. Are you using jojoba oil? If not, I recommend adding it in because I find that it really helps with the dryness / flakiness.

Try and follow the regimen precisely and I'm sure you'll be seeing results soon :)

Good luck!

I'm using acne.org products and jojoba oil as well. I have followed the regimen exactly as it says. I really hope the purging stops soon. The dryness sucks but I would rather deal with that then the acne. I also just got the aha+ today so in two more weeks I'm going to start using that and I hear that helps with they dryness which will be good. I just have this disgusting layer of dead skin that is just sitting ontop of my skin that I really want to scrape off but don't. I'm thinking that my skin is breaking out worse because of this? How can my skin breath with this hard crusty layer of dead skin ontop of it?? Also how will the bp be able to get into my pores with the dead skin layer????

I haven't used the acne.org AHA (I use store bought products) but I'd still recommend waiting until maybe the 5th or 6th week before adding in AHA - just to make sure your skin is fully accustomed to the BP. From what I've read that's what most people seem to do too. But only you know your skin and what it will handle / cope with. So if you think it'll be ok then go for it :)

You can use jojoba oil to gently exfoliate your skin which might help with the dead skin layer you're dealing with. You can search 'jojoba oil exfoliating method' or something similar to find out more about it but from memory you just put a good amount of jojoba oil all over your face, let it sit for a few minutes and then start gently rubbing in small circles all over your face and you should start to feel it exfoliating / removing dry skin. You then cleanse and apply the regimen as normal.

Two weeks and six days in:

So I did a jojoba oil exfoliation to try to gently remove some dead skin build up which helped some what. I wanted to do it really hard to get all the skin but I was very gentle so wasn't able to get everything. Hopefully if I do this every few days it will help with the flakiness. Today I don't think I have any new breakouts but can't really tell. I do have one spot on my forehead that is starting to forum which sucks but right now I would rather get a zit on my forehead then add to the mess I have on my chin right now!!!!!

Three weeks in

So not much is new, my face still burns alot while doing the regimen and keeps burning for almost an hour after the application of mousturizer. My face is still extremly dry and red and as far as break outs go I think I have two new ones this morning but it's hard to tell as far as older pimples they don't seem to be going away any time soon.

I remember that burning feeling after moisturiser - horrible feeling! My skin would get insanely red looking then too. But in my experience, it goes away once your skin has adjusted to the BP. And in time you'll start seeing old pimples going away and less breakouts appearing etc. Hang in there!

Three weeks and one day in

About three new small pimples today one on my cheek where I almost Never have beeakouts. Old pimples are still healing very very slowly! I got a new bottle of bp in the mail the other day my old one was not gone I just didn't like using the squeeze bottle one because it was hard to know how much I was putting on as measuring a thick line down your finger is sort of a dumb way of measuring. Now that I have a pump bottle it's better to have a consultant correct amount on. Right now I am using one pump day and night. My face is still very very very disgustingly dry no matter how much moisturizer and jojoba I put on. Products still burn when being applied and throughout the day but my face isn't too red for the most part. I'm hoping for some better results in the next few days or weeks because so far this regimen is not giving me any positive results!

Three weeks and two days in:

Got a few new small little spots/ pimples nothing too bad. Switched to cetaphil mousturizer last big and just slathered that and jojoba oil on my face before I slept last night woke up too a face that was alot less dry then it had been but still very dry and crusty overall face is still red. Still waiting for some good to come out if all this so far it's been pretty bad!

Like I said before I just switched from the acne.org mousturizer to cetaphil however I didn't just buy the regular old cetaphil mousturizer because from past experiences with accutane and just dry skin in general I didn't find it to be moisturizing enough, so instead I bought the daily advanced ultra hydrating lotion. Does anyone have experience being on the regimen and using this? Now that I bought it I am worried it will cause breakouts. The bottle says non-comedogenic and the list of ingredients does not have anything on the list of comedogenic ingredients found on this website, but there are a few ingredients that do worry me! If anyone has any experiences with this lotion please let me know! I like the feel and find it much more moisturizing then the acne.org moisturizer so if it won't cause breakouts I would love to be able to use this lotion for my moisturizer!!

Also if anyone has any other moisturizer suggestions I would love to hear them I need a really thick cream that I can slather on at night! Thank you everyone!

Three weeks and three days in;

Doesn't look like I have any new zits but still lots of old ones that are moving very slowly. Face wasn't a dry this morning as it has been I'm so glad I switched moisturizer wish I would have done it earlier! I moved up from one pump day and night to just over a pump two times a day so I will see how thy goes. Still waiting for some results!

Three weeks and four days in:

Woke up to about three small little white heads with many old slow healing pimples. Face is very red but not as dry the dryness is definitely improving but is still extremly dry. I would say my skin is improving from a week or two weeks ago but has not improved to where it is better then when I started. At this point I'm disappointed in my results, I had minor acne to begin with and this regimen caused me to breakout badly during the first week or two. According to the "expected results" page I shoul be expecting good improvements by now. I know that that is not always the case but I am doing te regimen completly accurately and would love to see results very soon!

One month in!

No new active pimples today which is good, however old stuff is healing sooooo slowly and leave very red marks/ scars which is very frustrating! I have got more scars/ dark marks being on the regimen for one month then I got not being on the regimen in over a year. It's really annoying becuse now my face looks worse but in really hoping thAt once I start the aha in a week or so that these red marks will rapidly improve or disappear!

Congrats on sticking at the regimen for a whole month! :) And awesome that there's no new actives at the moment.

It is annoying that the red marks appear more easily on the regimen for some people - but focus on stopping the actual acne first, then you can focus on improving those marks! AHA seems to really help people with this (I haven't used it much myself so I don't know how it works for me). Hope it does work well for you

Thank you Lilly!

One month and one day in:

A few small blemishes and one new cyst this morning! Other then that everything is the same... Face is red, dry flakey, burning ect. I'm really wanting to start the aha to fade my spots as that's more of my issue right now then the actual acne but I have been only doing the regimen for a month. I'm not sure if my skin has "adjusted" to the bp as It still stings a fair bit when doing my routine. I also am not up to the full two pumps twice a day but to be honest I don't think I will ever go up to this in the morning anyways. Can I do two pumps at night and one during the day? Two pumps during the day along with moisturizers and one day foundation and make up I think will just be too much crap in my face. Does anyone do the regime this way? If so how does it work? Also any advice about the aha would be greatly appreciated!

That's where I struggle with the regimen... doing it fully in the morning. Because I've found that the full amount of BP plus moisturiser plus foundation doesn't work for me :/ and I'm not at a point where I'm ok with wearing no makeup at all. So what I've been doing is using a small amount of BP in the am or not using it at all. I'm not recommending this - just sharing what I do. I haven't used Dan's BP so I don't know if that would work better with makeup etc. But ideally, you should follow the regimen exactly to get good results.

By doing what I've been doing, my skin has improved so much but I still break out a little and seems to have at least 2 or 3 active spots on my face at a time... I think you need to use it in the morning and night (the full amounts) for it to really work. Maybe ask this question (about 2 pumps at night and 1 in the morning) on the regimen forum and see if more people can give you some help / advice.

And to say your skin has fully adjusted to BP I think you need to have been using the full amount of BP for at least a week or so - I think when the stinging / burning is gone your skin has 'adjusted'.

Thanks so much Lilly I'm planning on using the full amount of bp on days when I'm just sitting at home all day and won't be wearing make up anyways and then the full amount every night. I haven't wore make up the whole time I've been on he regimen because I'm too scared of how it will look I guess once I get back to wearing some make up I can try with the two pumps and see how it works but I feel like one pump for the day will be more then enough!

I also noticed like five new cysts/spots/whiteheads when washing my face this evening! I'm getting frustrated I wasn't expecting perfect skin by this point but I really feel like I have had no results at all yet. My skin got way worse in the begining and now it's slowly improving to where it was before the regimen. It's still not there yet and the acne that I do have has changed in a negative way... More cyst and more condensed in certain areas my skin is also healing sooooo slowly ! Right now I probably have twenty five redmarks/scars from acne JUST from the last month on the regimin. I will continue the regimen as I really wouldn't know where to go next as far as treatments but I am very disappointed thus far. And yes I have been doing EVERYTHING according to the regimen so that's not why! Really hoping for good results just frustrated so far!

Stick with it! Keep in mind though that using the full amount of BP (AM and PM everyday) is what the regimen says to do - so if after a while you're still breaking out / not seeing improvements - you should use the regimen that way. I keep reminding myself that I technically can't get annoyed with the regimen if it's 'not working' because by only using the full amount in the AM on some days, and not everyday like it says, I'm technically not doing 'the regimen' - if that makes sense. So it's just something to keep in mind. And also the more severe your skin was to begin with, the longer it could take to see results. But stick with it - it does help! You should be seeing improvements soon enough:)

One month and two days in

So I think I'm going update only once a week from now on or whenever I see a change (good or bad) since I'm pretty much repeating myself every day. So I'll update where I am right now then repost in a week... So right now I have probably like six newer pimples/ cysts that haven't come to head yet. The cysts feel deep so I'm nervous about them scaring. Some days I will go with out any new zits sometimes even two or three days without anything new but then the third day I will be rewarded with three new zits so overall I'm getting ten or more new zits a week. This might not seem too bad to some people but this is how I have always been there isn't really an improvement if anything the rate of me getting new zits has increased instead of decreased. My skin also is healing slowly so right now I have probably twenty five redmarks all over my face that look like chicken pox. As for side affects I'm still experiencing stinging and burning while applying my products and for at least an hour after. My face is very dry this however has gone down a lot in the last few weeks my face is also red. Anyways that's where I'm at right now and I'll update in a few days with hopefully some good news!

Breaking out on my forehead now a bit less on the chin. Old marks are super red and all over my face making me look like I have chicken pox... Not happy

One on my jaw/chin thats like a four in one it's so big I honestly don't even know if it's a pimple it's like the weirdest thing ever! My face is also really dry again and tight which I thought it was over but I guess not... Still waiting for progress.

A lot of people seem to experience more severe breakouts around weeks 5 and 6 of the regimen. It's incredibly frustrating I know, but stick with it! Things should start coming along soon. And remember it's not a magic cure - it will take time - so give it a good 3 or 4 months to see how it really goes for you.

Hang in there :)
