What has worked for me: SEA SALT

First off... Hi I'm new here.

Been suffering from severe acne on my back for about 10 years.

I'm a 29 year old guy who actually had to quit modelling because of my condition. At first it wasn't a problem because we wear makeup on photoshoots. But when the demand for me to pose shirtless became high and I could not deliver, I was essentially tossed aside.

I lied and made so many excuses as to why I wouldn't pose that way, and a male model who won't pose without a shirt on is useless to most companies.

About a year ago I started dating a girl who is a trained esthetician. She put me onto the whole sea salt thing. Apparently it not only helps open the pores, kill bacteria, and dry the skin out a bit. It also actually sucks most impurities right out of the skin.

She got me started on it and I can honestly say I know it works. To prove how effective it was, because I was doubtfull, she had me soak my foot for three days in very hot water with sea salt in it. I had two plantar warts on that foot. Within the three days, the core of each plantar, popped out of my foot and cleared up.

Sea salt works.

She too had severe face and body acne. Very much like mine. Large cystic acne that caused her extreme pain.

She did sea salt for about a year, with careful facial extractions using a lancet and magnifying mirror. Now this girl has beautiful skin. Not a pimple or red mark on it.

I can ask her again to explain the exact science behind it if anyone is in fact interested.

What her and I do is buy a 4 or 5 pound bag of sea salt from the local drug store every few days, one bag is good for about 3 to 4 baths. We go pretty heavy on the salt because it is cheap and we want to be sure we have enough in the bath.

Soak for about 15 minutes, mildly exfoliate with a back brush, soak for another 10 or so, rinse off in the shower, and use a mild cleanser. I usually use the Aveeno stuff with oatmeal, or when really bad, Biore Blemish Fighting Ice Cleanser, which I have found to be the BEST cleanser out there when you want to clear up a breakout.

After showering, use a good lotion, something light. I use Garnier PureA. Get the PureA as opposed to just the Pure, because it has a light salicylic acid in it. Do not buy the PureA Night Cream. It is too heavy.

I have been lazy, stressed, and working strange hours for the last 6 months, so my condition has mostly come back. But I know that if I go back to the baths every night for about 3-4 weeks, I will be clear again.

Seriously try it. Be strict about it. Do it right. You WILL clear up.

Sorry for the novel like post. :)

that was really helpful. thanks.

Where can i buy cream of tartar?? im in the US

In the baking aisle with the spices. It's commonly used in making candy and frosting more smooth. It is a white powder that comes, usually in a small container.

do you think you could like mix sea salt and water in a spray bottle and spray it on your back and wash it off later instead of bathing in it because it takes up so much time..?

It definitely would be better to just bathe in it. I don't know if people have actually said this before in the thread, but sea salt works because it is alkaline (same with apple cider vinegar). I was doing some research and bumped across some sites about how to heal acne naturally. There were a lot of things talked about such as how acne cannot survive in an alkaline and an oxygenated body (weird term but basically having oxygen pumped throughout your blood :S). Anyhow, our skin is slightly acidic but the reason why we have acne is because it is too acidic.

So anyway, I'm off to start this as well along with eating moer alkanline fruits + veggies, going easy on the sugar, and getting proper sleep consistently. I hope I helped some people :P

in different ways.......but never stopped it.

Dermatologists could not help.......stopped going after they would eventually prescribe Accutane.

Now let me see, you stopped going when they prescribed Accutane. No matter that for teh majority of users, Accutane has proven to be a successful treatment for severe acne. Have you ever considered the fact that accutane may have arrested your condition?

I'm glad that sea salt baths are working for you, but it seems as if you spent a lot of time and scarring trying to find a way to arrest your condition. By your own admission you also were a picker, a behavior or action that will aggravate acne and leave scarring, you were afraid to try the dreaded accutane.

Yes it's true, accutane doesn't work for everyone and the people that it doesn't work for populate these message boards spreading their own particular brand of fear among many who could be helped.

It worked for me, it might work for you. On the other hand if you are happy with sea salt baths...go for it.

I tried everything to help get rid of my red marks and acne on my back and nothing ever seemed to work...in fact, the problem seemed to continue getting worse. I even tried glycolic peels with high hopes, only to find that they made my marks worse and gave me new ones!

I had my first dead sea salt bath one week ago and noticed that the imflammations on my back went down significantly and new marks were healing. It has now been a week, I've had 4 baths, and I am VERY happy with the results. I get the water as warm as I can handle in this oppressive heat and soak myself for 30 minutes. Most red marks are now brown marks and are light in color...almost disguising themselves into my freckles!

Something I've also done in the tub is about 1/2 way through my bath, I'll take some of the salts and exfoliate my back with them. The salts exfoliate the skin and melt into my skin while I do this. I think this helps the effectiveness.

I've been using the Masada salts, which are expensive but completely worth it. They are $16.50 at Whole Foods, and one container only gets you only 2 baths. However, I am willing to spend this money because I am seeing quick and impressive results. So far, I've gone through 2 containers and just bought my third. I'm going through a lot of this stuff right now until I get my back totally clear, and then I'll probably fo down to just 2 baths per week.

I also just purchased the Ahava liquid dead sea salts online for $18. I'm hoping I can use this product in the shower on the days I don't have time to sit in the bathtub for 30 minutes. I haven't used this product yet, but I'll post on the results.

I have what I think are "hypertrophic scars" on my chest from acne. They are totally embarrassing...but after taking accutane, I no longer have breakouts. Should I try the sea salt baths? If I could at least fade the scars slightly, I'd be a happier man.

As for overall regimens, I have recently started applying Emu oil and Jojoba oil to the scars in the morning. I use a .05% retin-A cream at night. I'm thinking of adding the baking soda/apple cider vinegar routine mentioned elsewhere on this site, along with a sea salt bath at night. The idea I have is to attack this from all fronts...is this too much? Seems like a recipe for dry skin, and I'd love some feedback.

swimming in the ocean or bathing in bath salts can help treat common skin ailments. the dead sea in particular made great results in treating these skin problems. This is part of the reason why a lot of people are visiting the dead sea, because of its therapeutic properties,

After coming out of the hot seal salt bath for 30 mins......are you supposed to take a cold shower to close up the pores?........also is it okay if you use 15 oz of sea salt rather than 30 oz?I've been using 15 oz&took a sip of the water and its pretty salty tasting...?

so, i have some questions regarding this sea salt method..

right now i'm using ACNEFREE's 3-step process

- 2.8% BP cleanser

- SD alcohol based toner

- 3.7% BP cream

on a daily basis, followed up by a 2.2% SA moisturizer

every two days or so, i also shave using Neutrogena For Men's acne fighting shaving cream

if i start taking a salt bath a day, should i get rid of any of the above processes, or should i keep them all?

also, salt dries out your skin, correct? i hate having dry, itchy, flaky skin, which is why i use the SA moisturizer. is that bad? my mom tells me that dry skin actually helps prevent acne, but i don't think i could live with skin that dry.

any comments would be much appreciated, thanks

no one really gave definitive answers ont his

i have the most sensitive skin int he world, its flares up into a big red flaky merss at the first sing of anything irritating

did this make anyone dry or flaky or at all irritated in any way?

thanks

ok two new questions: a- it seems like this is only helping my lower back (which looks great btw) btu not my chest or shoudlers

maybe the salt sinks to the bottom?

also, the water doesn't taste salty... i'm using bokek dead sea salt, is this a problem?

thanks

my problem sounds petty compared to everyone else's but my back clears up during the summer [i dont live near an ocean btw]

but it always comes back in the winter

should i start this method while my back is clear to prevent breakouts?

can i just say that i found the baths rather annoying and couldn't stay in them for longer than 20 mintes. so that idea was out the window.

i tried using a spray bottle. that annoyed me even more.

now, i go in the shower.. i get a jug, put about 4 table spoons of salt in the bottom and fill with boiling hot water. let it cool for a bit and then soak a face cloth in it and wash my body with that.

i've been doing this now for about 3 months.

i used to have really bad bacne, now i'm very close to being 100% clear.

just thought i'd share. :D

p.s also i used to get a hand towel so it was large enough to grab with both hands and do like an up and down motion so i could reach all of my back. if you get me?

Yeah, I know this was from a while ago. But, I think I am going to try this except with dead sea salt. Thanks! :)

What do people do that dont have a bathtubs? I only have a shower, so....

Yep.. I was wondering the same. I can soak my face in vessel or some other kind of container with sea salt in it, but when comes to body its difficult to find an alternative.

hmm .... I think I'll try this method ....

I got a shower also, not a bath ..... what's the best way to do it in my case? do you wash your face/body after you have your sea salt

BTW I just want to have my face covered
