I have used the Peter Thomas Roth AHA/BHA acne clearing gel for over 14 years, along with a gentle cleanser and oil free moisturiser like Dan's regime. Its a fantastic product, 2% BHA combined with 10% AHA. But is now been discontinued, and I can't find a substitute - does anyone know of any options ?
The closest I have found is the CeraVe acne control gel which appears to be similar (2% BHA and a unspecified amount of AHAs) Its ok but doesn't flow so smoothly over the skin.

BTW Dan, if you happen to be reading this, did you ever consider making a similar combined AHA/BHA product ? I remember many years ago you made an BHA cream but did not find it very effective.
Yeah actually lately I've been playing around with BHA and some other stuff.
I don't know of any good brands right now, but if you find one that you're curious about, you can always cut and paste the ingredients here and I can have a look and let you know if I think it looks good.

Many thanks for replying Dan, much appreciated. Peter Thomas Roth have released a 2% BHA serum with a 1% Time-Released Retinol and Vitamin C and 5% Oligopeptide-10 Complex. Combining retinols with BHA is an interesting idea. https://peterthomasroth.com/products/goodbye-acne-complete-acne-treatment-gel-1801069
I have just started to use your acne cleanser and moisturiser, as my favourite Neutrogena oil free moisturiser which I have used for years also got discontinued (Why do all the good products get discontinued ?!) Very happy with them. Look forward to hearing if you develop something new.
The ingredients of that don't look bad when I just see them as a list. Nothing terrible. I personally don't use shea butter because I don't think it's 100% non-comedogenic, but usually it's not used at a high amount so usually it can be ok.
When it comes to sal acid products, the pH is super important and exactly how they formulate is also important so that the sal acid stays as high potency as possible. So I also don't know what their compounding instructions are when they make this in their factory.
But overall, just as a big picture, it looks ok to me. But it doesn't have AHA. I know you were looking for a combo.

Many thanks Dan thats very useful to know.
Following further research the Carave gel is 5% AHA and 2% BHA, I have contacted them to ask for the pH level. Neutrogena also do a AHA/BHA combo, called Clear and Defend Plus Daily Serum. Its good its a serum rather than a gel but whilst its 10% AHA its only 0.5% BHA (I had to do a lot of online digging to find out the BHA % as its not specified on the product) As the BHA is the workhorse and the AHA more of an auxiliary ingredient I think the Carave is the closest match to the discontinued Peter Thomas Roth serum. I might even buy some pH strips to compare them all.
If anyone is interested this is the Neutrogena product https://www.neutrogena.co.uk/skincare/serums/clear-and-defendplus-daily-serum
I have been using the Peter Thomas Roth Goodbye Acne Complete Acne Treatment Gel. So far I have been very impressed by it. Its more of a cream then a gel, does not dry out my skin and has successfully prevented outbreaks. Its also reducing inflammation and making my skin much smoother. We recently went through a snap of cold weather with icy cold wind, which usually breaks me out but this time I have had no problems. It also has anti-ageing properties (the retinol) which is nice. The only down side its that its quite expensive, but you get what you pay for.
I still use a gentle oil free moisturiser once its absorbed. Essentially I do Dan's regime except using the Peter Thomas Roth Gel instead of BP.

Hey, what's up @Jbratt ? Do you have a specific question still?
So its been 8 weeks or so on the Peter Thomas Roth Goodbye Acne Complete Acne Treatment Gel. Unfortunately I think it has some comedogenic properties and has caused some minor outbreaks. Its a shame as on paper its a good product and I value the hydrating properties. However, I suspect the shea butter may be causing the problems. My skin is very sensitive to comedogenic products.
I think I am going to go back to Dan's regime. I have not used BP since 2010(!) but I am excited to read about the ultra-micronisation and fast absorption.
So Dan's BP and new moisturiser arrived today. Very excited to use them this evening. The moisturiser feels more hydrating that the previous formulation, but I have only used a very small amount of BP as I have been off it for so long. I will continue to use the Johnson's Baby head-to-toe wash as a cleanser as its cheap and readily available and works well.
