I've been using 10% Benzoyl Peroxide morning and night for about 2 and a half months for mild-moderate acne, but this has yielded little to no result. By extension, I've also tried using salicylic acid and hibiclens--also to no effect. Should I see a dermatologist about prescription acne medications?
BP can just be plain irritating to some, and make acne worse. Same with SA. Both are very intense. BP is like bleach on your skin, especially at 10%. SA is an acid and will cause the tiniest irritation to strip your skin of pore clogging debris. Overusing them or being intolerant to them can make acne way worse.
You could try just using something super gentle and light, even just warm water and a microfiber cloth and see what happens in 48-72 hours. I will not hurt to see a Derm. If you're female you could look into regulating the acne with contraception or Spiro. Hormonal acne, especially androgenic acne, doesn't tend to respond well if at all to OTC treatments unless it's very mild.
