I feel all of the place. I am completely depressed from my acne
My skin was fine with occassional breakouts from 2015-beginning of 2016
I was using Arcona and SkinMedica.
I then needed to save $$ and could no longer afford those products. I worked as an esthetician at a day spa and my skin got worse and worse the more I tried their products (Jane Iredale & Cosmedix)

I started using Jan Marini and at first I thought my skin was clearing up, but then I got on Duality and their Retinol Plus and my skin started purging like crazy and NEVER STOPPED. I now feel like Ive hit rock bottom. Ive had suicidal-type depressive thoughts (I promise I am not in any danger).

I pulled back and started using only their Cleanser, Bioglycolic (Glycolic, Salicylic, Azelaic mild formula) and Oil-free moisturizer. I started using my SkinMedica Retinol again.

My dermatologist is recommending I go on Spironolactone Im terrified of the side effects Ive heard about (weight gain, depression, loss of libido, dizziness) so I really want to avoid taking it.

My question is if my acne was able to be controlled while using both Arcona and SkinMedica, and then I started using Cosmedix, Jan Marini, Jane Iredale and my acne became full-fledged wouldnt the skin care most likely be the culprit and not the hormones?

The problem is clearly the skin care products. Is it mandatory that you use them while you work there? Your skin is more important than their products, if you're having a bad reaction, just go back to using what works for you. Or if it's not affordable, keep trying other products until you find one that works. The drugstore has some skin care that is pretty comparable to high end, and they're very affordable.

Anytime I get a bad reaction from something, I drop it immediately and move on to something else. I don't believe in this "purging" crap. I can find products that controls the acne a good amount without purging.

I concur with Eli_G. if my face gets worse when I start using something, I stop and go back to what i was doing previously. granted, this may mean I never completely get rid of my lroblems, but I've seen way too many horror stories from people trying to make it through the 'purge' and not being able to go back. especially if things were under control before switching products. I would go back to what you were using before and stick with it before taking anything else.

I sucked it up and splurged on the products... my skin is already looking SO much better! It sucks having to spend a ton of $$$$$, but it's better than spending more on peels, IPL, and therapist appointments
