Hey guys, I would love to know what topical treatments have you been using and how have they worked for you!!

- Benzoyl Peroxide

I have been using benzoyl peroxide since day one I have acne. I find that it usually works well for reducing inflammation and making the pimples go away faster. But the downside is that whenever I try to use a generous amount or put it on my skin (I only use it as a spot treatment) for a prolonged period of time, let's say 4-5 hours, it causes serious discoloration on my skin. I would even get skin burn from it when I use it on a daily basis, my skin would get super red and irritated and rough in texture.

- Salicylic Acid

I love salicylic acid!!! Even though it does nothing for my cystic acne at all, it really helps reducing the amount of whiteheads or blackheads I have! I use it every night holistically (BHA 2%) and it has improved my skin texture dramatically.

- Differin gel

I first got prescribed a differin gel by my dermatologist. I was hesitant to try it but it ended up working so well! I think it is not drying and it works kind of like a stronger version of the salicylic acid. Unfortunately when I get to the second bottle of the differin gel I was using, I ended up having very bad allergy / reaction. My skin was very irritated so I stopped using ever since. But I'm considering using it again, maybe from a different brand or something.

- Sulfur

I think sulfur is excellent when applied to freshly popped pimples, but when I apply it to pimples that haven't come to a head, it doesn't really work. I used to love the drying lotion (main active ingredient is sulfur) and I used it overnight, but I found it to be too drying when applied for a prolonged peiord of time.

- Kaolin Clay

I love a good kaolin clay mask after a very regrettable nerve wrecking pimples popping session, it really helps calming my skin down and reducing the redness caused by the picking! However it does nothing for my cystic acne or acne that has no head!

Those are the topical treatments I use on my acne. But there are still a bunch of other options that I haven't tried, so I would love to hear from you guys!!

Benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid failed me so I had to go to the dermatologist for more heavy duty stuff.
