Benzoyl Peroxide causing brown patches!!

Hello everyone,

So every day I apply a generous amount of a 2% BHA gel all over my face, plus a little bit of the Acne.org BP gel on areas where I'm more prone to breakout. I know it's more drying and irritating to use both together but I've been doing so for a while with no problem.

BUT BUT BUT today I do the same again and then I notice that the areas where I applied the BP gel have developed very noticeable brown patches. I don't really have any inflammatory acne (only some calmed down cystic acne and comedones) so I know they can't be "post inflammatory acne scars"

Has anyone experienced the same discoloration problem with BP?

I also wonder if it is because of the birth control that I'm taking since I have just started a new pack after finishing the inactive pills and getting my period. Hormonal changes can cause skin hyperpigmentation so it could be the reason why?

Any input greatly appreciated! :S

Hey, I've had the same thing recently. I know birth control can cause melasma ( dark pigment spots) but I've never had it from just the pull alone. I've been using duac for a few weeks and had so e sun exposure and a little brown patch pipped up just like that. I think its because birth control + BP makes you sun sensitive. Maybe wear a hat outdoors or use 30 or more SPF.

Thank you for always replying and responding to my posts :smileys_n_people_24:
Actually I'd recently discovered that getting some sun exposure every day does seem to help with oil control and inflammation reduction - I actually read it from a book about acne. The author recommends going under the sun for about 10 mins every day (without applying SPF) and so I'd been following. Yeah I think the birth control + BP combo definitely makes my skin very sun sensitive. I've been avoiding any unnecessary sun exposure these few days. The brown patches remain but they seem to get slightly better now :)
