My actual acne isn't that bad anymore, it's getting better with every month. I'm on Diane 35 and using clindoxyl as a topical which has worked well as far as whiteheads go. However the texture of my skin, while it feels pretty soft and fairly smooth, has a lot of patches of closed comedones. Sometimes they come to a head, but a lot of the time they're just there. I never pick at those because they're basically impossible to pick at, but I would like to get rid of them.

I have been wearing makeup for years now, I can't go without it. I know it's not good for my skin, blah blah, but come on, I'm sure you guys can relate. ANYWAY, my question is, how successful have people been with Paula's Choice products? Particularly the 2% BHA gel. I'm tempted to get it, but my skin seems really sensitive, and I don't know if it's going to give me an initial break out. Do they magically make the ltitle bumps disappear (wishful thinking lol I know), or will they all turn into actual whiteheads? And for those who have found success with it, how long did it take? Obviously I don't expect results within a month, but I'm just wondering cause these bumps have been here for YEARS, and I don't imagine them being easy to get rid of...

They work great for me, but they do both unfortunately. The breakout is not bad though, rather like little whiteheads that can be wiped off and are invisible the next day. I use the 2% gel twice daily, and 3 times a week the weekly resurfacing treatment. The gel is rather sticky for about 15 minutes after applying

Honestly, visible success for me was there after the first usage. It took me about a week to two to see dramatic results.

Hm. If I start using the products, should I stop using my other topicals then? I don't really wanna mix products. And wow a week seems too good to be true! I have pretty stubborn acne though so it'll probably take me a little longer haha.

At the point I started PC, I did not have inflamed acne anymore because of the spiro. But the remains of my last breakout were hundreds of little closed comedones and little bumps all over my forehead, on my cheeks ad the area besides my eyes ( just forgot english term for it). I don't know how it works for real inflamed acne though, but really the results sfter the first night were amazing. They had cleared up a lot over night, but by the end of the day many had re- filled. But again over night, they cleared up, and a few refillet etc. etc. and so gradually I got rid of them

Oh and seeing your signature: maybe you can try and see if the make up lasts without the primer. I have tried a lot of them, and all primers caused me bumps.

Even after spiro cleared me, the texture of my skin wasn't great. I used 2% salicylic acid products for a long time, but they were just too slow for me.

I do weekly salicylic 20% peels and lactic acid 50% peels at home.

I would love to do those but they are not available here. Where do you buy them? Maybe they ship to germany.

The BHA dried my skin out just as much as BP did. That's just me though - I have extremely sensitive skin.

AHA on the other hand works amazingly for me.

ooooh thank you!! My skin is thick , oily (not so much any more from the spiro) and not very sensitive. Dis you start with your peling strength right away or did you increase the dosage slowly. And: will it peel? Just so I know if I have to try it on a friday night. I do not want to stand in front of my students with patches of skin falling from my face, that would be a bit gross I think...

I started with full strength and left it on until I couldn't stand the stinging anymore. I think the max time for both of those peels is about 8 minutes. The first time I did it, I only lasted for 1 minute. Now I can do the full 8.

The salicylic makes me peel more than the lactic. It is not really peeling like you are thinking of. You just get a lot of little flakes over time. The flakes aren't so bad if you moisturize right after the peel, and carefully exfoliate for 2-3 days after the peel.

What would you say are the benefits of each?

Salicylic acid exfoliates inside the pore.

However, I find that with some stubborn comedones or blackheads, there is an accumulation of dead cells preventing the comedone from coming out. The lactic acid loosens up this top layer. So I usually do a lactic peel on say, a Saturday night, and then do a salicylic Sunday morning.

I don't have a lot of inflamed acne anymore and when I do, its manageable. Just lots of little bumps that make my skin look worse than it is IMO. I think I'll give the BHA a try!

Also I can't go without a primer or my make up will slide right off halfway through the day. I should probably find a better one but the make up forever one does such a good job as far as covering redness and keeping my make up goes.

I think my skin is too sensitive for something like that.. It just sounds harsh cause the percentages are so high?

I use the combination AHA 10% (3 nights) and BHA (daily). I find this makes the best results , and proably the answer green gables gave regarding my question about BHA and lactic acid was the reason why the results were so stunning.
