Right, so I'm new to this whole website thing. I suffer with mild acne but I really want to get rid of it. I've had to use alternative products to Dan's regimen as I live in the UK, so the shipping prices are unbelievably expensive, however I have a question regarding these products.
Dan's guide to buying drugstore products lists cleansers and moisturizers which are 'gentle', however throughout the day my skin gets REALLY oily, for example I wake up at 6am, shower from 6:15 to 6:45, moisturize blah blah blah, at 12ish my face is super oily, like you can see the shininess. Anyway, I was wondering if, by using cleansers which sell themselves as 'oil targeting formula', Shine Remover' and so on, that would effect the regimen, or, if I should use a cleanser for normal skin?
I'm 15 and male if its any link to my oily/acne prone skin. Thank you
When it comes to a cleanser, use one as gentle as possible, they won't possibly cause you to be more oily than normal. The BP will dry you out, so any natural moisture you have will be beneficial!
Cleansers that have 'shine control' usually just strip your skin and irritate it further.

+1. I like Cetaphil, it's very gentle.

Is cetaphil available in the uk? What shops can I buy it from? Thanks
Boots
Great, I'll be able to get it on Thursday. What moistiriser do you recommend?
Well you could try Cetaphil, I personally didn't like it. Boots do moisturisers from Aveeno, Eucerin, Simple and even their own brand. All which are pretty generic.
Great, thanks for all your help! Time to try the regimen
I wanna give it another try too, but I need to find a good moisturiser first. Last time I did the regimen...I used one that contained exfoliants. Dried me out way more than the regimen would have alone.
UGH! I've been looking online and no where seems to sell Benzyl Peroxide, what do I do now?

I know! It seems like Dan's is the only option...I've been looking everywhere.
It worked for me, but I got a lot of flakes and I think that's due to me rushing and using a moisturiser that contained BHA.

I've found something on amazon, - http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00AK7RK0Q/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3FQMIRTPJAN43
it's so much cheaper and free delivery, do you think it would be OK to use?
The best cleanser I've found after trying many is Alpha Hydrox Foaming Face Wash. It's very gentle and leaves your face feeling clean and smooth. What do you moisturize with? Something could be clogging your pores, which ramps up sebum/oil production. Or your sebaceous glands are overcompensating for dryness, which is why it's important to keep your skin hydrated/moisturized. For this reason, drinking lots of water can help too.
I'd also suggest getting a toner like Thayer's Cucumber Witch Hazel - definitely helped with my oiliness and acne.
Benzac has worked for many regimen users! I might even consider it myself.
Let me know if you get it and it arrives!
I'm going to order it later today, woo!

I use Desert Essence Oil Control Lotion, it actually makes my face go bright red, so I want rid of it ASAP. I think I'm going to stick with Cetaphil. Is it mandatory to use a toner?

You all probably don't care, but I've ordered the BP. Getting the moisturiser and cleanser tomorrow; this is what I'll be using.
Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser
Benzac Benzoyl Peroxide 2.5%
Cetaphil DailyAdvance Ultra Hydrating Lotion.
Not sure if the moisturiser is actually a moisturiser, lol. )

Great! Let me know as soon as your BP arrives, I want to know what the texture is like. I used Dan's and I loved how easy it went on.
That is certainly a moisturiser and 'ultra hydrating' sounds perfect! Question, where did you get that from? When I went to Boots, they only had the nasty basic lotion that is really greasy.

Ugh! I wasn't able to get the products today, but I'm popping over to asda tomorrow as ive seen it in there. Yes don't worry I'll share my experience with Benzac!

Aw! Oh well, you need your benzac first anyways.
The only concern I have about the benzac is the amount...60g won't go very far!
Weird, I've never seen cetaphil stuff in Asda
yeah cetaphil is on offer sometimes in asda, last time i saw them the cleanser/moisturizer were 6 instead of 8. They only stock the gentle cleanser and moisturizing lotion, I dont think they do any of the fancy SPF daytime ones or anything.
I'll have to go take a look. I really can't stand the lotion, it didn't absorb at all and I woke up with a face still full of greasy moisturiser.
I love the cleanser though. Have you ever noticed little pieces of what I can only describe as...grit in the cleanser? It doesn't bother me, but I wonder if it's just me.

i think youre supposed to use cetaphil on wet skin because when Ive done that after a shower it soaks up completely and its really nice, but on top of dried BP it just sits there looking shiny. It does its job though but I can only use it at night.
I think it might just be you because I dont think I have noticed that to be honest

Its just annoying how like virtually nowhere sells BP in the UK!
