I've been using Cetaphil which is meant to be really mild. I try to be really thorough when I clean my face so the stuff stays on for quite some time.

Do you think this could have adverse effects on my skin non-acne wise?

Hmm...

Cetaphil is supposed to be a very gentle cleanser, but it's also not really natural..

But either way, I don't think it's a good idea to wash your face for very long. It can be more irritating than anything.....

Just a quick rinse should be good.

Dan recommends washing for 10 seconds or less... to reduce the level of irritation.

Irritation = acne
