i been on the retin-a, doxycycline, and BP regimen since febraury, and i am amazed with the results that i have got...i was taking 2 pills of Doxy everyday, up until last monday, simply because i ran out and im officially done with all my refills after 10 months of it.. i stopped using the retin-a every night maybe around mid august, but im still using BP day and night...my skin is relatively clear, just scars, but it is ALWAYS dry, peeling and crusty.... i still get tiny zits around my chin and mouth area, but you cant really notice them unless i get really close to the mirror with the lights on. my question is, should i still be applying BP everyday and night? should i just use it every other day? i just turned 19 about 2 weeks ago,,, im afraid that if i stop using it, i will go back to how i was in the beginning of the year,, BTW, im using BP 5% .............
im just concerned that i'm damaging my skin,,, since i been using BP everyday for the past 10 months.. rarely going a single day without any type of cream on my face

your regimen is really similar to what mine was. im glad you had success with bp because i didnt have any. i took tetracycline, differin, and duac which has bp for 2 years. kept me clear until i developed a temporary mental disorder from the tetracycline and stopped it. the mental disorder went away in 2 days but the acne came back. i then used duac for 2 months. it ruined my skin, made it red, and caused permanent damage to my skin. the best thing i used for skin was differin but now i dont use it because im afraid about the hair loss thing even though i cant find any proof of it. i lost some hair.
when i stopped putting duac all the redness went down by 90% and my face stopped looking like a pizza. thats just me though. i never used a moiseurizer because i can't see the common sense in and my skin reacts badly to it. i wish i had skin like one of those asians with the dry skin that never gets acne and looks like the skin on my neck! now that would be the life.

yea i dont use moisturizer much either,, my skin gets oily really quick so putting mosturizer would probably break me out,, what would you recommend i do? should i still apply bp?

go eagles!
i think you should apply evening primrose oil. it is a good moisteurizer and will not make you break out. it also has gotten rid of all my hyperpigmentation and scarring. it also dries out my whiteheads. i don't think it cures acne but it is very good for our skin. the component that is good in epo is called linoleic acid. it has been shown in studies that people with high levels of linoleic acid in their skin have less wrinkles and their skin ages at a slower pace.
the most interesting thing about linoleic acid is that a study showed that people with acne have a "relative" deficiency in linoleic acid compared with those who don't have acne. this is why i think linoleic acid is good. another study showed it decreased oil production by 50% after 1 month. i have noticed my skin is not oily anymore. but it wont get rid of my acne. at least not yet. ive used it for 20 days only though. i stopped taking zinc for 4 days and still applied epo but the acne came back. so the best thing i have found for acne is taking 30 to 60mg of zinc per day and linoleic acid on my face. the zinc is highly effective at getting rid of acne. heres a study done on it were it decreased acne by 85% in one month: http://archderm.jamanetwork.com/article.aspx?articleid=536705
