Is Bacitracin cream effective against acne???

Long story short: I've had this big pimple on one of my nostrils (always a hot spot for acne, the nostrils) that in recent weeks has gone from being a flesh-colored annoyance to a full-fledged,boiling atrocity. Only with daily shots of Clearasil 10% BP (the strongers stuff I've got on my acne shelf, composed of OTC products for now.) has this pimple started to cool down...............very slightly. Not only does this Clearasil BP gel leave noticeable residue wherever I apply it, but it also take houts to absorb and not noticeably sit there on my face. I'm trying everything in my power to get rid of this pimple save popping it (hell, I even foregoed Christmas celebrations and stayed home to avoid potential embarassment!!! And this a family renuion I was talking about), when I remember reading that Bacitracin gel is a quick-fix solution for acne. Recalling that I bought a tube instantly, and am just about to use it when I ask here: is Bacitracin really effective against acne, specifically spot treatment???

Spot Treatment yes, it may reduce inflamation, and help it heal a little faster, but for acne no it probably wont be that effective on large areas of skin

YEA!! i had a huge pimple on the end of my nose to a little after christmas and i put bacitraycin on it and it brought the redness down. It didnt really cure it but it stopped it from getting any bigger and made less notcieable i used it with Acnefree spot treatment and it cleared it up pretty quickly

Now that I read what you wrote, it makes sense that Bacitracin worked. In my hospital, its prescribed to prevent wound infections and for treatment of skin infections (eczema, etc.). I've never tried it myself, but now I will.

Thanks for the responses guys. I've been using Bacitracin sporadically over the last month now and it somehow works. The thing that I'm concerned about (and I don't know if it's in all brands of Bacitracin) is that the inactive ingredients in my tube of Bacitracin are light mineral oil and white petrolaum. Are those ingredients comodogenic??? And seeing as I have very oily skin overall (especially in my t-zone area), would I have to be on top of my nose whenever I apply bacitracin because it makes it look oily just upon application, and gets even oilier when my face starts to accumulate sebum............

I have personally never used bacitracin on active acne, but I have found it very helpful after a pimple has been popped, or opened in some way (yes, I am aware, picking is really bad for acne). I first used it to prevent infection in an open spot and to prevent it from scarring, but it also helped it heal much faster than if it had scabbed over and probably gotten infected. I'm not sure if bacitracin would cause more acne though.
