hang in there.. i didnt stop purging til like my 8th-10th week... gradually the purging wil be less and less...now im close to my 4th month.. i can eat anything i want now!!
Thanks! I'm trying!! It's like as soon as I am starting to see the light a purge happens, argh. What makes the purges keep coming? I would think it should be a one time thing.
I can't wait until I'm on the fourth month!
Are you clearer than when you started??
i truly believe it is because of the layers of skin we have under the epidermis... with the BP killing the bacteria on the outermost layers, the deepest layers with bacteria come to surface with the purging effect ... so i believe it just takes all these purges until fresh deep layers come to surface and stay clear..... and yea absolutely...very clear..now im working on scars with AHA
Hey Alyssa, after reading your posts/logs, I decided to give the regimen another chance. I have had acne for about 9 years now. I tried the regimen once and it didn't really work for me. Now thinking back, probably because I wasn't following Dan's instructions religiously and I was also using some other products at the same time, which made my skin more irritated. I just quitted there. Then I had the worst breakout ever that I had to go to a dermatologist and was prescribed with antibiotics and retinol-a gel, which got my skin clear. But not long after I stopped taking those antibiotics and applying retinol-a, the acne came back madly. And this time, the antibiotics and retinol-a stopped working...Since then, I've just been trying some home remedies and hoping some miracles would happen one morning but nothing happened.
I'm getting back onto the regimen and will follow the instructions religiously this time. I will follow your posts as inspiration and make sure I don't quit too early this time. Fingers crossed!
WEEK 2: DAY 3&4&5
Sorry for inactivity lately, I've been extremely busy with my birthday and the holidays!
GOOD NEWS:
I only have two actives on my face right now!!! The cyst under my eye is now gone (YES!!!!!) and my face, with makeup on, looks virtually
blemish free.
BAD NEWS:
The dry skin won't go away!! :'( It has gotten better every day, but I can't even wear my hair up in a pony tail because I don't want everyone to see the flakes just falling off my face. Is it okay to scrub off the dry spots? I know that's bad, but is once going to make it that bad? I tried the Jojoba oil massage thing...it worked but not as good as I like. Any more advice? Should I totally avoid scrubbing the face with a scrub wash?
but yeah for almost clear skin!!!!
Hope you had a nice Thanksgiving and have a Happy Birthday too! I know what you mean about the food... my kids ate a boatload of high carb, bad-for-you food yesterday for Thanksgiving, and then did it all over again today with the leftovers. UGH!! I'm praying they don't get a whole new round of pimples in the next few days.
Right now, my younger son's face looks great... his forehead and chin are just about all clear and he looks like he hardly has any acne at all. He's lucky, he had a milder case to begin with a his skin seems to heal very quickly, the red marks seem to disappear right away for him.
My older son's skin tends to be more red and sensitive. He's got dry, irritated skin right now, more similar to what you're going through. Even though he has hardly any new pimples, his skin just looks red and more inflamed than it did earlier in the week. Plus, today he shaved with a crappy disposable razor he had lying around (too impatient to wait for me to buy him the Trac II that Dan recommends) so now his skin is even more irritated. Aaaargh!! I really hope he gets through this icky phase quickly. And I hope the same for you. It really helps to read the stories and posts from other people who have been through the regimen and what they went through in the early weeks, and how it does get better.
I had an amazing birthday and holiday thank you!! I hope you had a great one too That's just like my brother. His face is soooo minute and mine is just argh, so not fair hahah.
So far no huge new pimples, just small ones that go away in a day or two at the most. I really hope the dry skin phase goes away, but I guess it lasts for two-three weeks? I am barely through one week of it. UGH I hate it lol.
I think it's pretty normal for these purges, Alyssa...I certainly had them! Don't get discouraged, hon. They will all diminish soon
! I had a minor setback as well, so we're in the same boat
...I got a new one just under my chin and it feels like one wants to form on the side of my nose (Oh no...not the nose again! Ugh!) It hasn't even come to the surface, but you know those little "feels" you get when you may be getting a zit? Yep....I got the feels...poo. But, I tell 'ya...only two actives is much better than 10 or 12! We'll get through this mess...hopefully the holidays won't kill it for us!
OMG...We must be linked because I have one under my chin too! Well, it's like under my chin but more to the right side of my face, underneath. It hurst so bad but it hasn't come to a head yet, well i got stuff out, but it still hurts so idk. When i'm washing my face though, that's the only one that is sore, so that's awesome
I know those feels, I had that with the one on my lip and eye (which are now gone thank GOD!!!) It seems like when I do break out, they heal three days faster than they would without the BP!
Still suffering with the dry skin though

That does make sense.... I hope that the BP has gotten through all the layers haha cause i'm super dry, i just itch my face softly and look down and flakes everywhere OMG. I am so happy that you are clear now and hope one day I can do that!!! I have a lot of red marks too, but i'd rather have those which you can cover up easier with makeup versus the acne.

My fingers are crossed for you as well!!! I 'm so happy that I inspired you to pick up on this again. We can do this together! Please don't forget to check in with me ever so often to let me know how it is going for you!! We are a lot alike. I've had acne for 8 going on 9 years now as well. I tried so many things, funny thing you should mention, I went on an antibiotic too and got super clear, then it lost its affect since my body got used to it, and haven't found something that works sense. I'd love for you to post on this thread as well, it will be nice to have someone to do it with and talk to! It really helps keep you motivated if you have bad times (dry skin phase for me now)there are so many inspirational and motivational people on this thread that will give u great advice (kamiller )
Yeah, that dry skin is a B$%CH!! Dan's moisturizer didn't work for me, so I had to move on to Cetaphil...a lot of people use that or CeraVe...you might want to check one of those two products out and maybe mix them in with Dan's moisturizer.
I'm having a bit of a purge under my chin and a little on my neck...I've had "undergrounds" there for a while now, so it's time for them nasties to come out and leave permanently...nothing too big though and they are hardly noticeable. I did sprout one on my lower left jawline....darn it! Again, there are some "undergrounds" there as well. Hopefully, these are all just a purge and I will be fully clear soon.
It sounds like The Regimen is working for you, hon!!! Yay! Darn that dry skin, but I think I would rather deal with that than the red face demons any day!
OH!!! AND HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY!

That is totally true! I don't want to deal with the red face demons, so I'd rather deal with the dry skin. I want to use that Cetaphil but I'm scared to go off the Regimen's instructions... so, I might give the dry skin a couple more weeks and if it doesn't go away, i'll try the lotion. I just want to stick as closely as I can!
argh, i'm sorry!!! The good thing about those coming to a head, is that now, they are going to heal and be on their way out!!! and you almost have clear skin, looks like you are just purging the last buggers out.
The one main active on the side of my lower jaw, finally got popped today, and wow it was like a canon (TMI? LOL) and all i could think was YES FINALLY AHHHH *screams and dances* it's still sore to the touch, so i'm hoping that doesn't mean there is more in there. >_>

Yes! It definitely helps to have someone to talk to! I am the kind of person that can quit very easily if I don't see immediate results, which is terrible for someone has acne you would think after having acne for 9 years, I should know that no miracle cure for acne and nothing works overnight but still..I'm always tempted to try something new that I randomly find online or in the drugstore and would hope the newly discovered cream or mask would cure my acne overnight...and most times, they just made my skin worse.
Now I'm more realistic about my acne (FINALLY...lol) but I still haven't managed to live with it. So I'm starting this regimen and hoping this would work.
I saw Kamiller's posts on this thread too! very helpful and motivational!
So, I did my second application last night and start experiencing a little bit itchiness. I didn't put any moisturizer on since I haven't experienced any dryness yet (I think I should apply some moisturizer starting from tonight just to prevent dryness). Right now, I'm only applying BP at night before bed so I give myself some time to get used to it (even though I have been on the regimen before, I try to take it slow this time).
I'm planning to do my day and night routine a little bit differently than Dan suggested. Please comment on it if you think it's too much or if you have any other suggestions.
Day:
Cetaphil cleanser
neutrogena bp 2.5% spot treatment to apply on spots only
Cetaphil moisturizer
Conceal dark and red spots
Night:
Panoxyl 10% BP soap bar to wash face - not sure if this is a good idea but this soap has worked for me before. I will try this for two nights and see how it works. If it's too much, I will change it back to Cetaphil gentle cleanser.
natural ingredient home made facial mask - to calm down skin and moisturize skin before applying BP
Apply BP 2.5% before bed
Apply moisturizer
I'm going to take some pictures tonight to keep tracking of my progress.

I know exactly what you mean.... I tried so many things that it seems like if it doesn't work within a week, I toss it away. Having acne for so long, you just want it gone, but thinking back, i never gave other items the three month test...NEVER. But I already see such an improvement (with healing time and overall facial I clearness) already and it's only the second week. I just can't wait to see what the next month brings. The dry skin is killer right now, but in the end it will be worth it! I kind of look at it as.. no matter what, my face looks better than when I started. When I started I had about...oh gosh, 13 actives on my face? Now, I have 1-2. We have to make sure (myself included) to not hold our face to a higher standard than we used to. I read that on a thread in here I think. Before, I would kill to have 1-2 actives on my face, and now, since I'm getting clearer I have to avoid the urge to think, I SHOULD BE CLEAR BY NOW. It's a process, that we have to learn, and less actives is better than more! hahaha.
For me, I thought I would be free of the dryness since I experienced none the first week. Then...week two happened. LOL. Never skip on the moisturizer ! It will bite you in the butt later.
As for your schedule:
It looks good, but have you considered using all the items on Dans RGM? I think for best results, in my opinion, we should order his kit and use it because I'm honestly scared it won't work any other way... The one thing I noticed is your PM, I think that might be too much BP use. His treatment is 2.5% and I don't believe there is any BP in the cleanser, so I think you are using too much BP and it would be too harsh on the skin. But it is up to you, I have personally very dry and sensitive skin.

Thank you for responding so quickly!! I am so glad to hear that you are seeing great improvement within two weeks! Hopefully I'll see the same progress.
That's so true, just because I haven't experienced any dryness doesn't mean I would be free of dryness forever, Better start applying moisturizer NOW! lol
I think you are right, 10% is too much and will just cause more irritation. I will use gentle cleanser instead. I ordered all Dan's products - the cleanser, the treatment, moisturizer, AHA. I had jojoba oil before but not sure where I kept it lol..Some people on here said Cetaphil cleanser and moisturizer are great too. Since I have both Cetaphil and Dan's, I will try both and see which ones I like better I will keep you posted!

Awesome, that's what I'm deciding to do!!! I heard the cetaphil lotion is better for severe dryness like me now LOL, but i'm going to hold out for two more weeks to see if the skin gets used to the BP because the dry skin is getting better and better with each day, but no where near back to normal
and of course! I love when people respond fast to me, so if i'm able, I respond right back
yes use that moisturizer!!! it's a good idea, just in case as a back up !!
I can't wait to see your updates
WEEK 2: DAY 6
Today was a great day. I actually wore my hair in a pony tail, which means the dry skin isn't AS bad but it's no where near good hahah.
But I only have two actives on my face right now, which are already taken care of and on their way out!!! I can't wait to see what the future holds ahhh!
It's crazy to me though, if I didn't have dry skin how amazing my face would look. I am excited for skin to get used to the BP. Hopefully it takes no more than a couple more weeks!
Glad that your dry skin is getting better! Just a few short days ago the dryness seemed really bad for you and now it's already improving, so that's great. My older son has quite a bit of redness and dry skin just on his chin now, I can't wait for that to get better. And even though he has virtually no active pimples, he does have quite a few red marks from old acne. If it weren't for the pesky marks, his face would look almost all clear. It's hard to tell if the BP has any effect on the red marks. A lot of people on here swear that it causes the marks to linger, but I'm not sure. I think that the BP does such a good job drying up pimples right away that people may then get impatient when the red marks don't disappear right away too. You are absolutely right that everyone shouldn't hold their skin to a much higher standard, esp in the early weeks.
Quick question for you @Alyssa -
Has your face gotten red from using the BP? I am on the verge of starting this regimen and the only thing worse than acne is acne with red skin.
So last night I applied BP and then moisturizer for the 3rd time. Before applying BP, I took some pictures of my current face, which should be Day 2 on Regimen. I don't know how to upload pictures in the post, so I just uploaded them in my gallery...
My face was a little bit greasy after applying the moisturizer probably cuz I'm not used to moisturizing my face. I woke up this morning with one ripe pimple, so I very gently popped it.
I didn't have any active pimples on my forehead before I started this regimen but two came to surface after Day 1 on the regimen.
As you can see, I have a lot of dark spots left from previous acne...that sux..I don't know why that my acne is like a cycle thing, I would experience two huge breakouts every year, one at the beginning of summer and another one at the beginning of winter. Then I spend the entire summer or winter to get it under control..then it happens again..and every time, I have to use something new cuz the old method would stop working, which is very annoying.
This morning, I applied BP on my active spots only - there are like 20 of them..most are on the jawline and the left and right of my mouth area, and some on cheek.
Hopefully my face could be better before the 21st since I will be on a two-week vacation starting from the 21st and I don't want this annoying acne ruin my vacation. Stay positive!

Whoo hoo girl You is doing awesome, lol. Unfortunately, my skin is sooo super sensitive that I couldn't deal with the BP after 6 months, and had to cut down drastically....my face just burned horribly and was very red. And then I pulled the absolute STUPID and went all natural, cutting out the BP entirely, but you know all about THAT story, lol! Anyhoo...taking a lesson from my previous bout with The Regimen...I did the BP twice a day to bring everything to a screaming halt and then when my face was calm, I cut it way back, just so I wouldn't have to go through the agony again
.
Soooo....no new actives today! I still have that one by my jawline, but it's getting smaller and the purging on my chin and neck seems to be minor...let's hope so!

I wonder if you added jojoba oil to your moisturizer? Many people say that helps.
Also, not sure if it's a good idea but some natural facial mask is very moisturizing - would that help?
I took your advice and started applying moisturizer from last night and this morning too! The itchiness on my face is gone!
whatanate....I think you'll love the results even though you'll probably go through some rough patches, as most people do. Don't give up!
Thank you KAmanda I've noticed a lot of red marks showing their ugly faces as well. This whole time I thought all the stuff on my face was acne, but now I realize a lot of it is red marks
but I heard the AHA really helps to take away those completely
I trust the BP, it's the only thing that has healed up my acne within a day or two, and that's really big ones!!!
Quick question for you @Alyssa -
Has your face gotten red from using the BP? I am on the verge of starting this regimen and the only thing worse than acne is acne with red skin.
Not really My face gets red after I apply the BP and after I wash my face, but after that it calms down as goes away.
So no red skin so far!

I've added the oil to it, and massaged the skin and have seen the dry skin diminish...but it likes to multiply the next day lol. But today was much better!
When you say 20 spots on your face, did you mean red spots or acne? I know your skin should be okay by the 21st!!! That's a long way always, just keep adding the moisturizer so you don't get the dry skin phase at that time!

Whoo hoo girl
You is doing awesome, lol.

I'm glad the thing about the BP is that it seems to dry up and heal the acne really quickly. I've never had my acne heal so swiftly, especially when I have big cyst ones! I've had the one under my eye before and it lasted for three weeks, and i got it back again and since using the Regimen it finally actually heals within 2-3 days!!! I do have to actives on my side of the face, but one is popped but still sore and the other is sore and not come to a head yet, so we will see!
WEEK 3: DAY 1
Today is a good day. The dry skin is much better and I have around two actives on my face right now. It's hard because I look at my face and notice soooo many "Red marks" I'm just looking forward to getting clear and then taking care of those red marks with the AHA. I have hope...I'm still in the dry skin phase, which is getting better, been wearing hair up in pony tail..that confident. 8) hahahah. Here are the pictures for the end of week 2! *forgive my eyes, i literally took the pics after a nap LOL*
Before ( end of week 1 left) after (end of week 2 right)
OH lordy, sorry that they are so huge LOL.... *hides* XD
Wow... your new pics look so good, esp your left cheek and your chin. Very happy for you! I totally know what you mean about the marks, it looks like more acne when it's really not. If the marks would just disappear everyone's face would look 100x better -
lol
Wish I could report great things from here, but my older son woke up with 2 new pimples on his chin and a couple small ones on his
cheeks. Ughhh! It seemed like things were going so well for the first 2 weeks and now it looks like a setback. Plus his face got all red after he washed it and the marks seemed to get redder too. He was mad and didn't even want to go to school. He ended up
going in late but it was a bad morning to say the least. Sorry to vent on your thread(!) but I'm not even sure why the sudden
purge and irritation (??) Very frustrating! I don't know if it's because basketball season has begun and now he's playing every
day and sweating much more, or maybe backlash from all the holiday food he ate all weekend, or maybe it was just going to happen
anyway. Idk. He also has a bad habit of resting his chin in his hand when doing work, etc. I'm pretty positive his chin acne would clear up alot if he quit doing that.
Oh well - we're hanging there. Hoping it gets better again!!

I'm sorry to hear your son's chin is acting up It seems like the chin is the worst part of the face in my opinion and experience. The chin is like NEVER clear for me and if it is, it doesn't last more than a day. I have been changing my pillowcases a lot more often, two times a week if I can, and that seems to be helping a lot. I love sleeping on my side, so I can't sleep on my back to avoid putting my face on the pillow. I think it has to do with food too, i hate horrible last week and am eating better this week--not only do i feel better but my face looks a tad clearer too, but who knows, maybe diet has nothing to do with it lol. I used to rest my hands on my face all the time, until I kept getting scolded for it hahah so now I don't do it because i get scared of what the outcome can be!
Thanks for replying back to my little rant from this morning-lol. It was a bad way to start the day, looking at new zits.
But he's better now and so am I. His whole face was so red this morning, even parts of his face that he doesn't treat with BP like near his eyes and right near his mouth. I later came to realize that it's probably because when he applies the moisturizer it
reactivates the BP and moves it to parts of his face that are much more sensitive. Dan even talks about that in the FAQ's. So we
have to be careful not to do that. It's a real learning curve. This whole process of the regimen sometimes seems like it moves so quick in terms of improvement, yet on the other hand it can all seem like baby steps and even some steps backwards. But overall
it's improvement, so happy about that.

I used to sleep on my side all the time and my chin kept breaking out more than other areas. Now I try to avoid sleeping on side. Also change pillow case regularly. Sometimes I put a clean towel on the top of the pillow case so I can change the towel every day instead of changing the pillow case lol
For me, diet is a big issue. When I eat something with too much sugar, I will break out. I ate a lot of desserts this Thanksgiving and that definitely made my skin worse. I was supposed to stay in NYC for the weekend too but I felt upset so I came home last Friday morning and just stayed at home the entire weekend. But I did some online shopping over the weekend lol
I have also been on a dairy free diet for a while now. Not really sure if dairy triggers my acne but I did get more breakouts whenever I eat cheese. Yogurt seems to be fine.

Wow, your face is looking better and better! Congrats!
It's Day 4 for me. The old pimples are calming down. Got a new nodule on forehead, huge one..and some new zits (not cystic fortunately) on my cheek and around my mouth.
I didn't apply moisturizer last night and woke up with much drier skin..shouldn't have skipped it.
GIRL....You are looking great! Love, love, love....I'm soooo glad that dryness is calming down a bit! That's fantastic...I wish mine calmed down, but it got progressively worse the longer I did the full Regimen. But it looks like it's working out soooo well for you!
Not much to really update in my department, lol...no new actives and the undergrounds under my chin and neck are pretty much disappearing! The one active by my jawline popped and is on it's way down too
WEEK 3 DAY 2&3:
These two days have been great!!! I still have dry skin, it seems to be flaking more often now, so I'm hoping that means the new skin is coming faster? I only have about 1 active on my face right now. It is popped, but it still has that feeling that it isn't quite done yet. I am sick, sadly right before my 10K race on Sunday I'm really drinking a lot of fluids and getting a lot of sleep and meds to try to kick it in the butt in two more days. ughhhh
I usually get breakouts when I'm sick, since I tend to rub my face (runny nose) so just as my face is getting clear this might ruin it but no worries, the BP will zap it quicker
I hope everyone else is doing great!!!

I'm glad you're doing well in Week 3. My younger son is doing great as well in week 3, but my older is having a lousy time of it this week. Redness and some new pimples. Basketball season started (he's on his HS team) and he's been practicing 3 hours a day all week and his face is much redder and blotchier now. Ugh! I think the sweat reactivates all the BP on his face and seems to irritate it more. Showering right after doesn't seem to be helping all that much. He's tried to cut back slightly on the amount of BP and that does seem to help with the irritation. But now he's getting new pimples. So idk if the pimples are coming from the irritation and sweating or because he's cutting back on the BP. Wish I had all the answers!
LOL...I almost forgot about that darned eye thing! Hehe...it's not even considered a cyst anymore, it's flat and on it's way out! Yay! No puffiness anymore, thank God! I'm only getting really tiny pimples near my jawline or chin and they go away rather quickly. I've only had about two and they're pretty much faded at this point.
Looks like we're both almost in the clear, lol!
