Does Bp Stop Hormonal Acne?

Does BP, when used following the acne.org regimen, stop breakouts due to hormones? Or does it just lessen their severity / control them? (And when I say 'hormones' I'm particularly interested in the fluctuations for women every month and for PCOS cases).

I guess the odd hormonal breakout every month is pretty normal - and if that's all I had to worry about I think I'd cope with that fine - but what about for more constant hormonal acne?

Also, please correct me or point me in the right direction if I'm wrong (because I'd like to understand how BP can actually stop breakouts), but my understanding is that the way BP can clear skin and stop breakouts is by making the skin 'uninhabitable' for acne bacteria (through oxidization) so acne can't form... is that right?

Thanks in advance :)

BP works for hormonal acne just as well as it works for any other kind of acne in my experience. It doesn't "stop" it because if you stop using it the acne will come right back but it can control it. You just have to make sure you're extra diligent with your regimen around that time of the month. You might get a few extra spots but it should ward off a proper breakout. I have hormonal acne and the Regimen did eventually stop me breaking out full stop but it did take a long time to do so (like 10-12 months).

I think you're right about how BP works although I'm no expert. It's an anti-microbial agent that infuses the cells with extra oxygen which means the P-acne bacteria that cause acne can't live. The reason DK's Regimen works so well is that you end up having BP on your skin 24/7 so it should essentially stop these bacteria from growing in the first place. It also acts to soften and peel away the outer layer of your skin, meaning that dead skin cells stay around for a shorter amount of time and are less likely to build up and clog your pores (causing more acne).

by 'stop' i think she meant 'stop acne from surfacing or may be forming'

yes, thats how bp works as far as i know.

conclusion : bp kills P.acnes by oxidisation.

Sorry, I obviously read the initial post too fast. So the answer is yes BP should stop your hormonal breakouts given enough time and applied consistently :)

Thank you both for the replies :) I have a better understanding of it now

So I guess it will take quite a bit of time and patience before hormonal acne is 'stopped' / doesn't appear due to the regimen. And in the mean time, hopefully breakouts are reduced in number and in size.

It cleared my hormonal acne. I have PCOS and have been struggling with having acne because of it. Although taking Diane 35 did lessen some of the side effects and the acne, it didn't completely take it away until I started the regimen. It does not completely stop the spots from coming though, a week before my period I usually get a spot or two or three, but then again, it is so much better than before so I deal with it.

As long as you don't see an increase in your breakoiuts then use whatever supplements you need. I don't take any supplement yet have zero breakouts.

Now I remember you that before haha

But thanks for reminding me of it again. Really great to hear that it helped so much even when you deal with PCOS. I had a blood test for it but my doctor didn't seem too concerned with anything though she said for me to monitor things as there's the possibility I'm starting to develop it...

I was going to start taking a BCP (one of the one's I was considering was Diane) but I'll continue the regimen and after having used the regimen for quite some time, if I feel I need the BCP for my skin I could add it in.

So even since stopping Diane, the regimen has still kept your skin clear for the most part?

Yes, so far my skin is still clear even though I stopped the Diane. The really do believe that the regimen is the main thing that cleared up my skin. If you have no hormonal issues, like PCOS, then I don't think you need to be on any BCP.
