A bit about me and my body:
I'm 31, female, have had 1 child, live in the south central US. I'm a blood type A, weigh 130 lbs (I weighed 147 in Dec2016), fair skin and hair, ovary body shape type.
TLDR: I cleared my skin with a diet change. My diet follows Dr Eric Berg's research. I used a combo of anti-inflammatory, ketosis, and blood type diets.
I had acne since high school. Painful cystic acne. Nothing topical worked. Rx or OTC. At the age of 25 I chose to be vegan for 6 months, I earned clear skin, but living on veggies 24/7 was a pita. It was too far fetched to be vegan in my country, so I gave it up. In December '16 I was fed up with my skin and my body pain so I looked endlessly for options. I was committed to try anything with my diet. I started with an elimination diet. Ridding myself of trigger foods. Dairy was the first to go. I had clear skin in two weeks, but every couple days i would find tiny stray whiteheads. Processed oils was next to go. I still couldnt make it a week without a blemish. In an unrelated situation, I was munching on frosted flakes and almond milk one afternoon and severe back pain hit me. Id had intermittent back pain for months and always thought it was job related. I'm a mechanic. Anyway, I did research on sugar, since the brand I was eating contained only corn and sugar. I found a butt load of info on bad things added sugars do to the body. After 2 weeks of no sugar, my back pain was gone. Other symptoms that stopped were allergies to ragweed and plants of the Asteraceae family, motion sickness, brain fog, fatigue, easy bruising, and dry skin. I found Dr Bergs youtube browsing some dietitian videos. I started to include grass fed butter in my diet, no issues. Then I started adding cheese, both organic and conventional. I learned I could have cheese two times a week, not three. I educated myself more. Adding an ACV supplement before meals helped tremendously. I can now have cheese once per day. The ketosis diet part of it includes trading sugar intake for healthy fat intake. (I only cook with coconut oil and I use olive oil for dressings) Ketosis eating trains the body to use fat for energy instead of sugar. Ive lost over 15 lbs the last 4 weeks. Been 6 weeks since I quit sugar. By quitting sugar I mean I don't eat bananas, apples, white sugar, brown sugar, molasses, brown rice syrup, agave nectar, high fructose corn syrup, cane juice and other high glycemic foods. Even if its organic! I DO consume stevia liquid sometimes, organic dark amber maple syrup, and raw local honey. I only had sweet cravings for a week, and since I wanted to feel better more than i wanted a treat, I didn't cave. Eating healthy fats and mostly cruciferous veggies helped me feel like a kid again. Quite often I think of going for a run. I haven't yet because this is all still new. The blood type diet plays a role because I have type A. Which naturally has low bile production, so I have to limit beef and pork to a sometimes food. Also, if you don't eat sugar, organic produce doesn't cost very much because it doesn't take as much food to get full anymore. When you pair a sugary drink with a meal, your endocrine system doesn't know when to tell you you're full. So you end up overeating and hibernating. As far as hydration goes, I only drink water when I'm thirsty. Norwegian or Icelandic still, Italian sparkling mineral water, and mountain spring water.
In summary, I am extremely happy and I finally love my skin and body! I haven't had a blemish in over 5 weeks!
PS: I also quit caffeine in December, this got rid of my headaches! I work 50 hrs/week. I dont exercise, play sports, or watch tv.
