Hello all,

I found out my long term battle with cystic acne was due to food allergies/tolerances.  I'm 32 now and I've had cystic acne since 14.  I call it the CENT diet.  I don't eat Chocolate, eggs, nuts, or tomatoes.  I used to have 3 to 5 large painful cyst on my face at a time.  While now I have tons of scarring, I don't get anymore painful cysts.  I listened to NPR one day and this DR said if you have adult acne more than likely it is a food allergy.  It took me a while to figure it out, but I think the big one is eggs!!  I hope this helps someone.

thanks,
Jason

WOW a doctor said that !!!!!!!!!!!!!!, I was (and can suffer occasionally today at 57 ) 25 when I found out my poison after suffering for 10 years but have no scarring even though I stuck countless needles and even sliced them open with a razor, these were big painful cysts.
A trainee medical student started posting on here a few years ago and he rudely dismissed what I found actually caused my spots, the trouble with the medical profession especially the young ones is they won't disagree with the older 'dinosaur' doctors/derms.

Chocolate, eggs, nuts, or tomatoes don't affect me at all, that's not my own personal poison, people have to find their poison, that is if there acne is triggered by an allergy/intolerance.

Keep giving advice on here, but I warn you that very few will listen.

I don't think the issue is that few people will listen, imo, it is more about how the message is delivered. People on both sides of the fence have come off very 'know it all' and condemning and the fact of the matter is that there is no sure fire way to stop acne for everyone due to so many factors. So when people post saying 'this will help or cure you' or ' don't listen to your dr and take a prescription' or even 'diet doesn't affect acne', it comes across as preachy and dismisses the idea that nothing else will work and that a person is in essence wasting their time unless they try that one particular remedy. For the younger readers here, that one track mind thinking can lead to an unhealthy view on controlling acne.

I never said anything you have wrote above but agree with you.

quote ,that's not my own personal poison, people have to find their poison, that is if there acne is triggered by an allergy/intolerance.

I am well aware there are different types of acne and most can only be treated with limited success, like me having psoriasis,it comes and goes as it pleases sometimes severe and sometimes it clears altogether,if I e mail a member I say that maybe you have the same condition as me and you have nothing to lose by excluding chemical additives from your diet,
I as a sufferer who has found my personal prevention to spots, know first hand the extreme personal suffering that acne brings and offer my experience to people who appear to have the same symptoms as myself ,but I totally agree with you,It's about how the message is delivered, but don't forget that not only do members but also doctors/derms dismiss the notion that chemical additives have no impact on acne, even my own doctor scoffed at the idea and if I had listened to her would have been a sufferer for a further 35 years.

Hi. I wonder how many of us have food allergies not acne?! I noticed with me, dairy, bananas, MSG and as Phillip said, many food additives cause cystic like spots. Mine always felt itchy which I thought was weird. I'm glad you figured out what causes it for you. Just recently I've been getting oral reactions( itchy or sore mouth) from raw tomatos so I may cut them out too. Some fruit allergies are only to raw fruit but not cooked, have you noticed this is true in your case?
