When i hit 20s i can still tolerate eating cheese and everything with dairy on it, my face was clear and ive got no problem with acne then when i hit the age of 23, i cant imagine what the hell just happened cause my face was seriously horribly covered with acne which it came into a point where i got depressed and just want to die. i dont know what to do, cant see a dermatologist for i just dont have enough expense for it ,then one day i got fed up with my life, i searched the net looking for a miracle and found this site acne.org under diet and holistic and read about the dairy thing. Then i remembered how i almost consume dairy everyday especially when i came here in singapore to work at the age of 23 . Chocolates, cows milk in cereals for breakfast, yogurt pizza i feel so stupid that i just realize now at the age of 25 i endured and suffered having a pizza face for almost 2 years then i said i think i should give this a try then on that moment i immidiately cut off dairy in my diet and boy it was so hard for me to give up dairy cause im addicted to chocolates and lots of cheese!!! but i want to put my self first i wanted to regain back my self confidence and that was it, my skin cleared up gradually and it really sucks seeing the aftermath of those big cystic acne that dwelled on my face for almost two years. And i know its hard to remove acne scars, now im trying to treat it by derma rolling and putting retin a on my face for the hyperpigmentation and for the hope that my acne scars will be flattened. And yes it did help a bit but im still hoping for the best result. Anyway recently just a week ago i dont know but i am really craving for a dessert after 3 months of giving up dairy my face all cleared up then i think i should give dairy a chance. I ate chendol, pineapple tart and shrimp in butter that i knew got rich on dairy in it then in less than 24 hours 7 big cystic acne flared up on my newly healed face.ithink i wanna vomit all the foods that i just ate but seriously i cannot and its too late cause the dairy already sank into my cells and trigger the inflamatory response thus the revenge of acne. I said to myself from now on i condemn dairy. I will hate dairy for the rest of my adulthood whatever happens. No dairy for me.
Anyway, to each is own, this dairy thing may not be effective for others but for me it really works dairy is the number 1 culprit of my acne. Thats all thanks for reading my lengthy post.

Glad you discovered what is causing your acne I also avoid dairy but that alone does not fix my skin. Still i feel that the hormones in dairy could not be a good thing for us to be ingesting.
If you get a "sweet craving" there are many other yummy foods you can have that dont have dairy or added sugar. Instead of chocolate you can use cacao powder (its a bit bitter without sugar though!) or carob which has a sweeter taste in baking. I mix a spoon of carob powder in almond milk to make "hot chocolate." If you look at "paleo" cooking websites they will give you ideas for making healthier deserts without dairy or sugar.
I've cut out absolutely everything dairy -- with the exemption of medications...isn't it crazy how frigging pills use dairy products as a filler/binder?! Gotta have my meds so I'm screwed in that regard -- because it absolutely triggers a breakout. I mean, 100% guaranteed. It used to be just milk did it, but it slowly developed where I couldn't consume yogurt, cheese, butter, ice cream...even something like ranch powder or the flavoring used in dill pickle potato chips broke me out. So now I have to scrutinize everything I eat and drink, and sometimes it's extremely frustrating when I'm dining out. I try to always find a restaurant's allergen menu online before I go and I stress NO DAIRY to the servers. But then again that doesn't always work...I went to a chain steakhouse and found out they use butter in cooking their steaks. First visit, no big deal, they didn't use any butter. Next visit, even though I stressed that I have a dairy allergy (obviously the easiest way to explain it) and the steak looked "clean" I broke out within three days.
Thankfully there are a variety of substitutions for milk, butter, ice cream, and chocolate. I haven't tried vegan cheese yet. Kinda scared. LOL.
I've also noticed that if I consume a "higher than normal...for me" amount of sugar it causes me to breakout. I'm obsessed with a dairy free iced coffee and if I drink too much of it too often hello frigging zits.
