Wow great improvement. The minocycline seems to work for your skin.

Went to the derm today. No longer on antibiotics. still using Ziana at night and Acanya in the morning. Also got a mild cleanser with BP for night washing and obviously traded the Morning 2.5 % BP for the Acanya (1.2% clindamycin and 2.5% BP).

Awesome diet! Good job on sticking to it and taking control of your health from the ground up. In complete agreement with Rachkellz, as usual :)

Don't listen to any of that nonsense about sugar from one of the posters on this thread: it's toxic, full-stop. Your body and brain need GLUCOSE, not fructose (which is half of what sucrose is comprised of).

A few things I second from previous posters:

1) If you cant juice yourself, V8 is not your best choice, simply because it's ultra-pasteurized. If you need to get your veggie juices bottled, go for those that are raw and cold-pressed--and yes, preferably bottled in glass.

2) Yes--up your fat intake! And your healthy carb intake! I'm a huge fan of Ezekiel sprouted grain cereals, breads, and wraps. No flour or wheat at all in them. Consider adding grass-fed ghee, coconut oil, and organic, pastured omega 3 eggs into your diet in a bigger way. It will also keep your skin nice and plump and moisturized without getting greasy. Also, don't be afraid of fattier cuts of meat as long as they are organic, pastured (TRULY grass-fed), and ethically raised. Your body and brain need protein to get all the amino acids it needs. And bone broths are also very important. You can make them yourself or just look for them at any restaurant that has good ramen on the menu. It sounds gross but it's so rich and delicious. Also--full fat raw goat and/or sheep's milk/cheese doesn't have the scary kind of casein that cow's milk has. Plus, it's a great way to add fat and calcium to your diet (the best way to get calcium is through diet rather than supplementation).

3) Yes--consider taking a tiny break on the nuts and seeds high in Omega 6 (and Arginine, like peanuts) until you've got your Omega 3's way amped-up.

About the 5-HTP. I have been experimenting with amino acid therapies and nootropics for years and may have some advice for you there. The 5-HTP builds up your serotonin levels. This is an awesome thing, but over time, it can deplete your dopamine levels (which is responsible for energy, motivation, desire, focus, drive, and stress management). You will want to be supplementing with L-Tyrosine at the same time as the 5-HTP at a 10:1 ratio. So if you take 100mg of 5-HTP, you'll also want to be taking 1,000 mg of L-Tyrosine. 5-HTP is best taken at night with a tiny snack because it can make you sleepy, and Tyrosine is best in the morning or mid-afternoon on an EMPTY STOMACH. St. Johns Wort and 5-HTP work marvelously in conjunction with one another. The SAM-e may be too much. I think it's subpar compared with other similar nootropics. If you find the 5-HTP is making you a bit lag (serotonin is responsible for calmness, among many other things, and too much of it can make you a little TOO zen, if you knowwhatImean), consider taking it every other day, or even just three times a week. If you weren't already depressed, you likely will not need it every day. But the Tyrosine is freaking fabulous. You can even break open the capsule and empty it onto your tongue and swallow it down with water for super-fast delivery. If you aren't taking a B-Complex, make sure to choose a Tyrosine with added b-6 as it requires it for absorption.

Your skin is looking fabulous! Keep up the good work :surprised:

^^^^great info, thanks : )

I added cage free, grain fed eggs and special oatmeal w only 16 carbs and 1 sugar. I also added a special gluten free cereal I eat with almond milk. Finally, I got some cage free chicken breast and antibiotic free, grass fed bison. My weight is right under 150, which looks really healthy on my frame.

I am not going to use the 10% bp wash I bought, turned my face super red. I only put it on and counted to ten before washing off, same as with cetaphil.

Well, my skin is 100% zit free! I am still doing the super healthy diet, but have started to cut back on the vitamins. I am only using the Ziana at night, nothing during the day.

Been a few months since I was completely clear.  Still eating the same diet and taking the same vitamins.  Starting to break out again :(  sad to say, but I've pretty much proven it was the antibiotics that cleared my skin.  Nothing else changed, so I guess that's pretty conclusive.

So, I made a derm appt prob going back on antibioticsbreaking out around my jawline mainly. unfortunately, I just have bad genetics. I'm in my 30's and not overly oily like my 20's, yet still break out. I changed my diet completely and still break out. I exercise and am in great shape, yet still break out. I stayed on an identical routine from the above photos, minus antibiotics, so obviously the antibiotics r what got rid of the acne. If I didn't have to worry about scarring I would b content just covering the zits w concealer.

at least I know limiting foods I enjoy isn't the answer either.

I just explained this to someone who is in a similar situation as you, which was a similar situation I had been in a couple years ago before clearing up, though I'm a bit younger:

Sometimes people go all-out in an attempt to eat very healthy and gorge themselves on foods that may cause digestive problems. Foods such as garlic, onions, certain fruits, cruciferous veggies, etc.If you don't understand the correlation between digestive upset, your digestive microflora, and acne, it's a BIG one.

What caught my eye is your garlic supplement. What specifically are the benefits you're supposed to be getting from that? Just asking because I'm curious why acne sufferers choose the supplements they do.

Antibiotics target your digestive troubles in the same way a flamethrower tackles your garden's weed problem. They work, but they leave a bit of destruction in their wake. If you're still curious about diet, I would look into one that helps repair your digestion over the long-term. A Low-Fodmap book would be a good place to start.

/Full disclosure/ I'm working on a guide that compiles/aggregates scientific research out there around acne. It frustrates me that more people don't know more about acne or have to scour the sketchy internet looking for 'solutions.'

This turned into a rant but I hope you find what you're looking for!

Edit: Yes, you got those wonderful "acne genes" most of us here have. Genes predispose us to getting acne when our clear-skinned friends can eat absolute crap and look fine. Genes suck sometimes lol.

^^^^garlic has natural antibiotic properties. I never had severe acne, just a few zits at a time that would get nasty. the zits were never my main worry, it's the fact that my skin scars so easily that makes me anxious when I break out. My digestion and overall health are pretty great, just not my skin. I went on accutane yrs ago and completely cleared my acne for around 8 years. I went on this diet to avoid having to go back on accutane.

if nothing else I have answered a few question I have had for years. I always wondered if my acne was ready to clear without accutane (nope) and whether my diet had a big hand in my breakouts (nope).
