Hi!
Does anyone here have any Rose Hip Oil stories to relay? I've searched the internet far and wide and have found a plethora of information, but am still looking for personal encounters.
I've been using chemical skincare products my entire life, and only recently have they been causing cosmetic acne! I'm thinking about switching to "natural" skincare, and have purchased a bottle of Aura Cacia Rose Hip Oil with Vitamin E from Whole Foods.
Does anyone have any input? I'm starting it tonight but am incredibly worried since my skin is super sensitive!
I'm interested in if for its supposed retinoids like properties, but I bought some, it had an odor, worried it was rancid I kept asking people if it should have an odorand could never get a straight answer.
They'd say something like their oil didn't have a foul odor. But I never asked about foul odors. Rancid vegetable oil smells kind of like paint, which while I don't like that odor, I wouldn't consider it foul.
I would start with tea tree or witch hazel...rose hip is too "oily" in my opinion and can clog pores.
Nothing will "cure" your acne except monitoring diet and staying away from topicals you know cause you problems. A low glycemic-index diet that avoids milk and sugar particularly, and a skincare regimen that does not strip the protective lipid barrier of your skin are your best bet against acne. As for oils, I take a borage oil supplement, but by mouth. I don't put it on my face. For skincare oils, I "wash" my face using a mixture of castor oil, jojoba oil, grapeseed oil, and a few drops of tea tree oil. Three times a week, I do a deep cleanse with an AHA-based cleanser and my Clarisonic. If you're breaking out, focus less on topicals and more on diet. Also try investing in a showerhead dechlorinator. I have sensitive skin and so does my husband. If we shower in chlorinated water, my skin becomes painful and itchy and breaks out extremely easily, and his eczema comes back. Chlorine is terrible stuff, and we inhale it and bathe in it daily... not to mention drinking it. Yuck!
I've found that it doesn't much matter what I wash my face in if I'm using my dechlorinator, TBH. I've run out of my preferred stuff and started using some leftover cleanser before and it caused zero problems. Some days, I don't even wash my face with anything, just the warm water from the showerhead. I highly recommend the Rainshow'r brand canister dechlorinator, as well as daily sun exposure. Most people actually are so photophobic because of skin cancer scaremongers that they don't get enough sun and are vitamin D deficient. I get about 45 minutes of unprotected sun exposure per day... I like to garden, so it's not hard to get enough. After that, I cover up with a hat. I tan very easily despite my peaches and cream looks due to my French-Creole heritage. Before I started sunning, my doctor said my D-levels were very low, which can cause acne and other skin issues as well as problems with calcium absorbtion.
