Why Do I Break Out When I'm Sick?

I am 20 years old and every time I get sick I break out horribly! I know for a fact it is just not a "coincidence" like some people may assume. Is this normal?

try to prevent being sick by taking four 500mg vitamin C chewable tablets every day (or when I remember)

This is what I read when I googled it:

When your immune system is low (when you're sick), you'll experience less energy and more acne since your body's defenses are down and are less likely to defend against bacteria on your face or substances in your body that cause acne (that you normally fight off when you're healthy).

When you get sick, the best way to fight acne is from inside your body.

Is this true? And am I the only one that breaks out worse when sick?

This has been a topic of discussion more than once here. Multiple theories come up. Some state immune system is suppressed while others say its "over active" evidenced by a huge increase in white blood cells which are "gobble up" the infection and a by product is the toxins of the infection are released into the body increasing the already existance inflammatory response. Any type of infection increases the body's metabolic demands. I believe reading that just 1 degree rise in body temperature increases metabolism like 3-7%. Some state that hormones are less controlled because of this which feeds the body but also wreaks havoc such as the skin.

So keep hydrated, eat nutrient dense foods, get rest, and wash your hands while you ride it out.

When I'm ill, my skin tends to feel calmer. Though this could be what I do differently as a result of being ill

What kind of medication do you take when you are sick? I break out every time I take antibiotics as it weakens my digestion. Have probiotics if you suspect you are taking anything which can damage your gut flora.

Wow very interesting! Thanks, it makes sense to me and I will make sure to keep more hydrated when I am sick, I tend to slack off because when I get sick I forget I need water..

I usually just take some over the counter cold and flu daytime and night time capsules for however long the severe sympotoms last, Im not sure if it's that which maybe breaks me out? But if I remember correctly I usually break out just as I am getting sick, so before I even start taking anything.

Just about every herb, tea, spice or plant food that isn't a seed. Eat real, whole fresh fruits & vegetables. Drink teas, and by that I do not mean bottled drinks. Antioxidant nutrients like vitamin C, E, D, carotenes, zinc, etc

Proinflammatory foods are sugar, hydrogenated/trans fats, crisco, margarine, 'vegetable' or most seed oils (which is what vegetable oil really is) , grains.

Other seeds, that aren't grains, I.e. nuts, beans, tend to be moderately inflammatory but their benefits outweigh the negative. All grains aren't equal either and oats and buckwheat other examples whose benefits outweigh the negatives. Real, whole Animal products are also mildly inflammatory. Processed meats are junk.

You should always eat like this. And you might not get sick.
