Canadians Don't Have As Much Acne Because Of Vitamin D Levels?

I recently read a study of how on average canadians are less deficient than americans in vitamin d levels. Maybe this is why they have way less acne?

Care to give the link?

Raw/natural/hormone free milk may actually be quite good for people, even those with acne, but you'll have to experiment this on your own. I find that avoiding anything to do with milk has gotten rid of all my cysts.

If you're up for it, lacto-vegetarians are great people for milk recipes: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lacto_vegetarian

My notes on milk here (Canada and USA):

Also, try milk kefir. It's delicious as well as benificial with millions of strains of bacteria that even out the bad bacteria in our bodies if done correctly. Personally I prefer the water kefir since I started making some for myself: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kefir

I live in Canada and I never see anyone with acne. I've only seen 3-4 people in my whole life with a cystic strain of acne here in Ontario and I'm truthfully not exaggerating. It's not Vitamin D - Canadians are actually way more deficient than Americans in vitamin D, it's probably just the dietary differences.

ok. maybe. tell me about their diet though? don't they follow the standard american diet? and vitamin D is important for insulin metabolism and there is a study that it cures acne so what you are saying makes sense.

I'd like to know about their diet also. Maybe Canadians don't get acne because of the colder climate, or maybe less stress. When my parents trailer broke down while traveling there they had people offer to help right away and my parents said they were very friendly. In America it seems like everyone is always working too hard and stressing too much.

Not exactly. We don't have the same degree or availability of '"Fatty food" you guys have in America and our food has higher standards in it's preparation and quality and overall it's less toxic. Canada isn't really like America at all, it's closer to the U.K in terms of society.

Yes less stress. We have socialized medicine, little poverty, no violence and a strong economy. It's paradise here, I've never had to worry about anything.

The SDA (Standard American Diet) is loaded with sugar, fats, milk, and sometimes too much processed food, including meats, cereals, and breads. If it's not the milk bothering acne sufferers than its the sugar (which is ALSO bread), or a combination of both. I've been to canada several times and I've seen dozens of people with acne and acne scars... however if you are all referring to the mild-moderate-extreem range, then the three worst places I've seen acne in is in America, Mexico, and China. A few of my friends are from Northern China (colder climate similar to Canada) and had moderate to extreme acne, and I think four or five of my bunk friends who I believe are mostly Hispanic have huge cysts and scars all over their cheeks and forehead. Some of my friends are even a lot worse than my pictures in my gallery here.

Also, Canadian milk may be different than american milk in terms of quality, control, communities, and corporations, but there are lands in between the borders that ship everything out to both countries, including bellow to mexico. In return, mexico sometimes produce their produce for America and I think canada as well, but it's more common for me to drive by green houses in Canada than further east of America. Again, each community is different, including my mostly American family and full blood, half blood, quarter blood relatives who live all over the world. Our acne is inconsistent and amongst ourselves and our households.

Do you see people with acne there on a consistent basis though? What about severe acne?

I read a study saying that canadians are less deficient than americans? Hmm, maybe the study I read was bogus?

Maybe it has more to do with America = diversity of people = more acne in the sense that maybe certain ethnicties are more prone to bad acne.

When I was in Canada (Calgary, Edmonton) I noticed a huge population of caucasions (sp?) who seem to have similar skin... that smooth baby skin. It seems there may be a genetic component to this.

When I was in India (I am of indian origin), there were places where a lot of people had the same skin tone, and other places where people had horrible acne.. and the diets remained the same. I think it has more to do with how our bodies handle a diet. Maybe some genes handle it in a different way while others give you disfiguring acne.

I plan on going to Europe soon (for about 3-4 weeks), and I will observe how much acne people have.

I think it's great you get to travel and observe different cultures and their skin. Please let us know if you see many people with acne in Europe. I have family that visit from Germany every few years and none of them ever have acne or scars from it, I don't know if they represent most people living in Germany though.

I don't think they represent most people from germany because if you sent a few people from america that had perfect skin and a perfect body, would they represent most Americans (of course).

What I am most curious to observe in Europe is to learn about the diets of numerous cultures and how the diet effects the skin of such cultures. For example, I want to see how healthy italians in italian villages are, mainly because they consume so much olive oil (unadultered olive oil) and how it effects them. Also, European countries like France, Italy, and Switzerland all have cows that do not have a specific mutation that is bad. Bad in the sense that cows in America have a mutation which promotes tons of lectins in the dairy, whilst France, Italy, and Switzerland cows do not have this mutation.

On a side note, I had a friend who recently visited Sweden. She told me that the amount of fat they consume is ridiculous "alluding that fat is bad for you." She also told me that they are one of the best looking people she has ever seen.

Well, I live in Canada and I have acne (ranging from mild to moderate, and thankfully, mostly under control now) and I've certainly seen people here with all kinds of acne - varying from mild to severe. It's possible that people in the states have more acne - I don't know. If this is true, I'd guess that it's probably for the same reason that there are more overweight people in the states. Their diet is generally crappier. Canadians don't have a great diet, but we don't eat quite as much fried food and pop and our portion sizes are smaller.

Interesting that people here are saying that Canadians live a stress-free life. That may be true in some parts of Canada, but it doesn't seem to be true in the Toronto area, where I live now, or Vancouver, where I used to live. Actually, whenever I visit the states, it seems as though people are living a laid-back, relaxed lifestyle (unless they're in the city). I guess the grass is always greener...

True. If you live in lake tahoe or yosemite park in california, you would also think that people are stress-free and laid back over here. But thats obviously not the reality.

Just curious, but would you say you see people with moderate acne quite often, or not that often?

Also, what is the typical canadian diet? Is it mainly grains?

Canada can be a nightmare as well. No place is perfect, and pretending that every part of America is worse then Canada overall is insulting to both Americans and Canadians. Some of my canadian friends grew up under a leaky roof and with horrible parenting, including illegal ownership of a gun. Their worlds have been turned upside down by other Canadians. Many of my Canadian friends who travel here wish they lived here, and many of my American friends who visit Canada wished they lived in Canada. I've been to Toronto myself and always end up the target of many Canadian's dogma, that they think they can say whatever they want to my family and I when they overhear us talking amongst ourselves, and that we are all suppose to grin and bear listening to how terrible we are. Much of what they claim to know about us is usually on a personal level. I've lived through more racial slurs and nightmares in Canada than I have in France, Mexico, and most of the other US states with a high immigration status.

I'm Canadian, I have acne. Come on, plenty of Canadians have it.

Yes, a lot of my canadian friends have it too. Whether at home or visiting us in the states.

My cousin lives in Canada, eats a healthy diet, all that stuff. She's suffered with acne just as bad as I have.

Just like a lot of us in America eat super healthy, get vitamin D/sun and still have acne. These generalizations are silly. People have acne everywhere. You don't see hundreds of people covered in acne when you go walking around in public in America, either. The fact is, most people who have bad acne either 1) hide in their house or 2) hide it with makeup. You just don't notice them but they are there.

People in Canada can get medical care though, like someone mentioned, and that surely does take a huge stress load off. Lacking medical care is something that stresses me out on a daily basis.

We have had plenty of Canadian members here with acne. Almost every mention you see of someone taking Diane/dianette Birth Control are Canadians as it isn't approved for use in the U.S., or if it is now, it's a recent change.

Most of the claims about the paradise that is Canada are untrue. If the food is better at all, it is marginally so. Do a quick google on the Canadian diet and you will find plenty of results from Canadian news stations and publications about the sad state of the canadian diet, diabetes, obesity, etc.

And yes, they get free medical care, but it's the same bad medical care we get here with doctors only having the vaguest idea that diet, exercise, and sleep is important while being positive that what everyone really needs are drugs.

And hey, Canada. How 'bout you learn to refine your dirty oil yourself and keep it in Canada. I'm sure you can hire people if you can't figure it out.

I live in Canada and actually it is better here , we have less crime , our food is better too less processed , yes our health care system is pretty

much free another huge bonus , even though orthodox medicine is mostly barbaric and corrupt still surgery etc can be usefull . The US is the

drug capital of the world pretty much the inventor of the pill popping culture , in a recent world ranking the US ranked a dismal 40 th in the world

for developed countries in regards to health care and longevity ie quality of life yet they spend the most per person on it , hmmm , could it be all

the prescription drugs they hand out like candy .

Canada on the other hand is ranked at 27 , a big difference indeed here we are learning to use alternative medicine , herbal medicine ,

acupuncture ,Chinese medicine or what is know as the ancient art of healing , vs the cold and corrupt Orthodox system. You guys invented this

sorry state of affairs we are in sadly , in regards to the oil sands we have , we use the highest standards to minimize environmental impact from

extracting the crude oil from the sands. If you don't like our oil don't buy it , we have plenty of other customers around the world who are in

desperate need of it , remember oil runs the world and it will take a long time for it to be replaced with alternative methods , solar power , electric

wind generators , electric cars etc....

So in conclusion I am proud to live in Canada , no it's not perfect but it's a hell of a lot better than the U.S system.

Thanks, but I don't need the lecture on the state of the U.S. health care. Or crime or anything else. In fact, I'm the last person who needs. it. I didn't even say that Canada was not better. All I said was that it wasn't the paradise darkheart tells us and we have plenty of Canadians here with acne.

And a very easy google search pulls up tons of Canadian publications you have the same issues with diet and health that we do. Articles with headings like 'Canadian diet looks like a Dog's Breakfast' which is a stupid title because no one should be feeding their dog that way.

And we aren't buying your dirty oil, you just want to pipe it across our rivers and streams so we can refine it for you to sell to China. And that type of oil should not be piped anywhere. It takes a lot of pressure to move it, it's extremely corrosive and when it bursts the pipes and leaks, it sinks to the bottom of the water where it cannot be cleaned up. Check out the state of the recent spill in Arkansas. And the massive spill into the Kalamazoo river in Michigan three years ago that was hardly reported on because it happened at the same time as the BP oil spill that still has not been cleaned. Because it really can't be.

I just made some points about your health care system I'm sorry if I offended you but facts don't lie , things can change in the US if people would

pull there heads out of the sand and wake up , If people stopped watching mass media and actually did some thinking of there own they would

see that much of what is shown on tv and news media in the US is biased one sided and deceptive , in other words people need to get out of

the zombie mode.

In reference to oil spills , having a disastrous leak like BP in the ocean is much much harder to clean up vs pipelines on land , and oil is needed

if the US didn't have enough oil to run there giant machine there economy would be destroyed harsh facts but that's how it is , and solutions are

far into the future sadly so. And the US does purchase our oil and lots of it In 2008, the U.S. imported one million barrels per day more oil and

refined products from Canada than from its second largest supplier, Saudi Arabia. Nearly half of the Canadian crude oil brought into the U.S. is

derived from oil sands. Curtailing thisvaluable source of energy from a longtime ally, like Canada, could divert it to other countries, particularly in

Asia, whose demand for affordable energy is rapidly growing. The demand for oil will always be because it is needed.

Thanks, Don't need the lecture on the state of the U.S. health care. In fact, I'm the last person who needs. it. And a very easy google search pulls up tons of Canadian publications that say otherwise about your food and diets.

And the huge one in Michigan three years ago that was hardly reported on because it happened at the same time as the BP oil spill that still has not been cleaned.

I just made some points about your health care system I'm sorry if I offended you but facts don't lie , things can change in the US if people would

pull there heads out of the sand and wake up , If people stopped watching mass media and actually did some thinking of there own they would

see that much of what is shown on tv and news media in the US is biased one sided and deceptive , in other words people need to get out of the zombie mode.

I don't know why you'd think I was offended except that once again, you seem to have misinterpreted my words. I do not need a lecture about our healthcare system because I, and most people here on the Nutrition and Holistic board, know it sucks. and likely know much more about it than you do. And the people here on the Nutrition and Holistic health forum are not zombies.

And we really should quit talking about the oil, except I'll make one last comment. You really need to look into how really nasty that tar sand is and why it shouldn't be piped anywhere and how it's spilling all over Wisconsin, Minnesota and Michigan, the lands of lakes, where it can't be cleaned as it sinks into the bottom. And the keystone XL pipeline that we are fighting so desperately to stop, is not for us. It's going to China.

meant the general public in the US and here in Canada they are the zombies persay.
