I think I was getting too much caffeine lately, I would often have 4-5 cups of coffee a day. Noticed I could still be wide awake at 2 AM, then finally crash and be really slow to get up in the morning. On top of that, my left eye would get spasms several times a day.
So, starting this weekend I limited myself to one cup of regular coffee in the morning, and if I get to craving some in the afternoon I'll get decaf. I can certainly get to sleep easier, my twitchy eye isn't twitching, and my pimples aren't as irritated.
So was the caffeine really messing with my skin, or is it coincidental? Or was it indirectly related because I wasn't sleeping well?
I have read both stories that caffeine can help acne, and that it can worsen acne.
I think for you, if you have noticed an improvement giving up caffeine, I would say caffeine isn't doing anything for YOUR body. So I would stay away from it. If you want to be brave, go ahead and add it back in.... lol And see what happens.
But for you, I think it's great to stay away from the caffeine, because it helps your body get back in balance, and helps with your sleep/wake cycle.
Maybe add melatonin before sleeping if you still have trouble sleeping.
If you need a kick in the morning, try showering, and eating a big breakfast..... or have something sweet such as a banana.... Or maybe try an all natural tea that does not have caffeine in it.
I think it's important to realize the caffeine might have not directly caused your skin problems, but it was affecting your body (twitching?!),... and when your body is not okay, it shows.... everywhere.
if you're having trouble sleeping and your eye is twitching then i'd definitely step it down on the caffeine. i've been trying my best to get as close to possible as sugar free and therefore have been having a lot of diet soda. the one day i guess i had more than usual, because everything else was normal, but i broke out in all these little spots on my forhead. i attribute it to the caffeine that day. not binging on diet coke anymore after that...
I'm starting to think it may have been a significant contributor. I replaced my morning coffee with decaf over the last week, and my skin was improving. Friday I broke down and had a large coffee, regular kind. Saturday I got a sore bump on my jaw and one on the back of my neck.
Every time I have caffeine I break out pretty bad. Sometimes I can handle one small cup of green tea or something. But if I have more caffeine within 24 hours, I break out. A cup of coffee is WAY too much for me and I break out instantly. I had two espressos on easter sunday and within 10 minutes I was breaking out.
