I have a theory and need your help. If everybody could please answer these few questions real quick:

1) Who here is still taking B5, even in tiny amounts from a B-Complex? If you are not taking any B5 in supplement form, how is your shedding?

2) I assume that everybody here took the B5 to combat their oily and acne prone skin.

Have you noticed any difference in your facial oil levels now compared to before B5 and while you were taking it?

3) Except for the shedding, how is your hair now compared to before you were taking B5? Dull and lifeless? Or oily? Has your hair darkened?

4) How was your scalp before B5, during B5 and how is it now? Oily, dry, flaky, dandruff?

5) Do you have dry skin/psoriasis anywhere on your body? Elbows, knees, arms, legs, etc.?

6) Do you shed a lot of hair that is shorter in comparison to your average hair length?

1) Not taking B5 in any form.

2) It's as oily as before taking Pantethine. In the 10 days I was on Pantethine my face was less oily.

3)Hair is now dull, lifeless and straw like compared to before Pantethine. Also it has become lighter.

4) Scalp before Pantethine was without problems. Problems started maybe 6 months or so after the hair loss started. Now its itchy and flaky.

5) No psoriasis.

6) I shed hair in all lengths. My hair is pretty long now, so its easy to see which length I pull out. I would say its mostly the longer ones.

I use a mixture of castor, olive and tea tree oil to treat my irritated scalp.

Btw, who here still has acne? And if you do, in which areas?

I still have acne. Moderate I would say. A little bit everywhere, but worst in the mouth / jaw area. If/when I loose all of my hair I might take up pantethine again as it at least helped on the acne, and there wouldn't be anything to loose.

I use a mixture of castor, olive and tea tree oil to treat my irritated scalp.

I tried those oils as well. You should try the combo I descibed, though. My scalp feels fantastic.

The oils are a bit expensive though and I'm not yet sure if oiling an already oily scalp is a good idea but thanks for the tip. Has it reduced/eliminated your shedding?

Has anybody tried a detox yet? A Master Cleanse, liver flush etc.? If somehow the B5 affected the liver, kidneys etc. then that could maybe help with that.

I'll try the Master Cleanse after I have completed finals. It's also supposed to help with oily skin.

Meanwhile I am still losing hair but mainly on my temples and along the side part. Does anybody else sometimes have sebum on their shed hair? Like when you lose a hair and the usually small bulb is covered by a bigger bulb of sebum which you can remove.

Maybe a overproduction of sebum is the cause of the hair loss. It's either that, a deficiency or MPB. I do however think that a deficiency would case Telogen Effluvium but in my case my hair loss was not delayed at all. I only took B5 for a week and immediately noticed hair loss. I stopped the supplements and am still losing hair one year later now.

probably i am going to share my own observations. majority hair falls comes for top and front side of the head... on the sides and on the back hair is stronger. hair falls completely with a root. falling out long and short hair. Here in russia we dont have any information? but after reading foreign forums i find out that hair continue to fall after cancellation of the madication (treatment) (even after several years)? thats why as i think that the disbalance of vitamine B5 does not has nothing to do with it. Out of all this observations we have only one conclusion- androgenic allopecia????in that case we need to search the resolution of the problem in proper functioning of adrenals?? and thyroids. Vitamine B5 has an influence at functioning of adrenals.

who managed to win?

Well it has now been exactly one year since I started B5 supplementation and what a bad idea it has turned out to be.

Before taking B5 I had really thick and beautiful hair and never noticed myself shedding a single hair no matter how often I blow dried or straightened my hair.

I could lather my hands with strong hair wax and run them through my hair and wouldn't have a single hair on my hands afterwards.

I washed my hair every day with shampoo and didn't even use conditioner but my hair still always had great shine and thickness.

I never had dandruff or itching scalp either. I was really blessed with good hair genetics.

Last october, when I was 17, I started taking B5 to cure my acne and oily skin. I had read up on possible side effects on the internet but all I found was reports of diarrhea and upset stomach. Pretty much every site praised B5 for clearing skin and they all said it was safe to take in high doses.

So, convinced I could finally cure my acne, I ordered B5 and started taking it right away. In the space of 1 week I gradually increased my dose until I reached 10g. After around 2 days on 10g I noticed really bad hair shedding when I ran my hands through my hair.

I immediately stopped taking B5(I probably took it for 9 days or so) but the hair loss continued.

In the coming months I noticed that my scalp was always itching really badly and that it was always irritated around the temples. I started taking all kind of supplements(which I still do). I also started regularly applying tea tree and castor oil to my scalp and using Nizoral once a week. Nothing has been able to stop the shedding though.

Well, now most of my scalp and hair feels really good, however my temples look horrible. I have receded around 1cm in a year and they are getting thinner every day. In the places where really thick, luscious hair used to be, now there's only wimpy and thin hair left.

My temples are also constantly inflamed and red and no matter what topicals I use, the irritation never goes away.

For a long time I was convinced I had Telogen Effluvium or some deficiency but I am pretty much sure now that B5 started MPB.

What other condition could cause such rapid hair loss on the temples? I don't know. I also have no other way to explain why only my temples are constantly inflamed/red and flaking.

The thing is there is no MPB history in my family. My father is a NW2 at most at 54 and his temples look thicker than mine!

I have no idea how but somehow B5 must've triggered MPB. It's also the only condition that explains why so many people have never managed to reverse their hair loss despite taking so many supplements. I and a lot of other people have had all kinds of blood tests done but they all came back normal.

If this Colostrum/Potassium Iodide thing doesn't work for you guys, I think I have no choice but to go a dermatologist and ask for Finasteride and Minox.

I don't want to be bald by the time I am 21

Do this:

1. Nizoral Shampoo every other day, leave in hair 10 minutes.

2. Propecia .05 everyday. Obtain Propecia from doctor and dissolve 1 pill in 20mL of 75% proof alcohol (ex: bacardi 151). Take 1ml via dropper everyday. You will see results in 2-3months.

Or take Propecia, cut into 4 pieces and take Monday Wednesday Friday. This will stop hair loss

Yes, Propecia is the only thing that has stopped my itching. I strongly suggest not using a full 1mg dose to avoid side effects IMO I would use Nizoral EOD, once a week is not enough. When I hit the 3 month for propecia I will post pictures for everyone.

Maybe more people should try RU? Worked for me.

I also found this. Something to potentially watch.

1 month propecia update-Itching has stopped, still shedding. Currently dosage= .05

sides?

testicle pain first week, gone now. Sex drive down 20%, better for me, more focused on my studies.

I stopped the itch. Do you have itch?

Only been one month, see if hair loss stops in another month. Others have stopped hair loss.

Scientists do not understand what causes MPB. We therefore can not understand the connection between MPB and B5.

Not hormones, receptors. You have hormones when a teenager, but hair stays.

Take propecia or RU, but maybe you can not get RU in your country so propecia better for you. Nizoral also, this is a shampoo and is easiest.

Go ahead and wait for your hormones to "bounce back" then.

Hair cycle is 3 months. Even propecia scientifically proven to works says wait a year. I don't believe it's the thyroid, but have to wait 12 weeks for a truer assessment.

No.

I will post pics at year end when I have taken Propecia for 4 months.

Also thinking of trying a premixed RU. [Edited link out]

Now you have a bald spot (two years later)

I did stop taking RU because I was getting terrible brain fog and fatigue. I might try a lower dose because my hair is getting terribly thin. I don't think I used it long enough to know if it slowed down the shedding, but it definitely started growing hairs.

The minoxidil didn't help much. I probably used for 2 years and nothing promising so I stopped.

I did try both Propecia (1 year) and Avodart (over 1 year) and neither slowed down the shedding.

I took a few capsules of the iodide but I stopped because I have my endocrinologist appointment is coming up on Nov 3rd which I will have tests done. I don't want to screw with my system before I have the tests.

Hi guys, I'm a 21 year old girl (which seems to be a minority on this thread). I was wondering if anyone could offer help (or just moral support lol) I took B5 along with n acetyl cysteine for five days. Day 1 (stupid fricking idiot argggg) I took 5 pills, day 2 I think 4, day 3 1 cos I read all these alarming posts, and day 4 half a one. Now I just get the 40mg in a multivitamin. I stopped and tried to save myself but the horror has begun :o I am shedding like crazzzzy. I am so terrified, I had anorexia 6 years ago and was just, just getting thicker more normal hair back after all those years of straggly bits. And now it looks like I'm doomed for the rest of my freaking life.

Do not know what to do, as a girl hair loss is so hard to take, I mean for men too of course, but hair is a huge symbol of beauty for women, especially acne ridden ones. Oh brother.

Basically my question is, I haven't heard of anyone getting permanent hair loss from anything less than 10 days on slightly higher dosages, so do you think theres any chance i'll be ok? And has anyone found any cures that can be used by both genders.

Thanks a bunch and I feel for you all
