When I eat food without any gases, bloating, indigestion, stomachache etc., can I tolerant this food and digest it well or it doesn't say anything to me ? smile.png I have chronic gastritis and acne so do you think my acne is caused by my guts flora? I don't have any symptoms after eating dairy, meat, gluten etc. but I still have acne and I know it depends on food. When I eat only fish and vegetables I'm clean. I haven't eaten gluten or dairy for almost 2 months but I'm still spotty ;/ Should I do IgG food test? smile.png

Yes, that is the best sign that you tolerate the foods. No indigestion, gas and so on, and pleasant BM's. I don't know about gastritis, but if it's one thing I've learned it is that everything is connected.

Certain components in dairy and gluten will increase leaky gut and therefore contribute to inflammation.

You could do a IgG food test, but I would recommend sticking with the diet you hvae done since it seems you are getting clear on a healthy diet. Start using prebiotic supplements and several sources of probiotics. After some time you can slowly start to introduce dairy, grains etc. to see how you react:)

Been on paleo for almost 3 months, introducing kefir and probiotics into my diet as well as an extensive amount of garlic and onions. sometimes a spoonful of coco oil. wish me luck! very close already.

Great work! Kefir and probiotics are excellent, be sure to get quality products. Personally I would recommend against garlic at the stage you're at since my experience is that garlic is best used in the beginning when getting rid of candida and so on. You're focus should probably be to introduce new bacteria. I will also recommend prebiotic supplement which is very effective, start slow and expect an initial reaction.

Meat and fish need very little digestion from gut flora and are usually well tolerated by most people

From my experience this is true. I feel really light after eating meat, it seems to digest very quickly.

Yes it needs very little digestion from the gut flora but tons of energy to break down the amino acids inside your stomach, which is where proteins are broken down. Our PH of our stomach acid is very similar to herbivores, while omnivores and carnivores have lot and lot more acidifying stomach acid.

I disagree. The human digestive system is actually very similar to that of animal Carnivores. We are very well adapted to animal products. http://files.meetup....orous-WAPF2.pdf

I've been eating at least an onion a day, usually two or one big one, and I've noticed my skin is healing but my pores seemed very opened up with small bumps in odd areas, I would assume this is mostly what you refer to as die off or some sort of detoxing.

White Fox, are there any particular probiotic brands you recommend to get 100-200 billion live bacteria per day?

I have tried several different brands, but I really don't know which ones are the best. Look for a supplement with bacteria that survive stomach acid is my best advice.

If you need some high-carb sources I would say fruits, carrots and quinoa are some of the safest sources.

Remember that you will get fat-adapted after a while ( http://www.marksdail...be-fat-adapted/ ), and then you should be able to function properly on a high-fat diet.

High-carb sources like the ones mentioned are mostly a problem for people with Candida overgrowth!

ive been ''fat-adapted'' for 8 months. eating 2000 calories,75-80% calories coming from fat. Ive never felt worse in my life for those 8 months. felt letargic and had no energy at all. ,even though i did have no acne and no breakouts. i need carbs to feel ''human''

My body is so weird. I'm now 99% clear, in 3-4 days!!!! lol :P, I am not on Pelo diet or something like that. Sure I eat meat, lot of fish, vegetables, some fruits but also whole grains. I take colostrum, probiotics, L-Glutamine, Multivitamin with digestive enzymes, maybe it helps to cure my acne in very short period of time.

I ate a fruit bun, ice creams, sweet cookies, bran, musli, dairy the day before yesterday and yesterday and my face looks great. I did it on purpose because I wanted to check how my body respond to these products.

Do I have food intolerance If my acne has gone in 3-4 days again? :)

One of the most commen questions on this board is the following:

How is it that some people can eat shit(grains, sugar etc.) all the time and not get acne?

I believe the main reason is that these individuals have a functional gut flora and healthy intestinal lining so they can cope with their crappy diets. Insulin sensitivity, genetics and other factors probably also play a role.

That's why I say that when you have "healed" your body with diet, beneficial bacteria and prebiotics you can slowly introduce "bad foods" in moderation.

But for the large percentage of people it will take SEVERAL MONTHS to repair their gut; depending on the severity of their symptoms. Some people with mild acne and no digestive problems might see improvement from diet, pre- and probiotics much sooner than that:)

I will congratulate you when you have introduced more beneficial bacteria and prebiotics into your diet and have been clear for 1 month:-)

Almost everyone needs probiotics, since we never get them through our normal diet, except maybe organic yogurt. Imagine this, we bath our vegetables and all the things we cook in chlorine (tap water). Most of the bacteria are now dead, then we cook them and the rest are then also dead in the intense heat.

See, some of us are seriously lacking them specially if they don't eat much raw food.

Exactly:) Modern lifestyle is not a gut-healthy lifestyle.

If you had read the links I have provided you would see that it's not just antibiotics that contribute to dysfunctional gut flora and leaky gut.

Grains, sugar, bottle-feeding, pasteurizing, hand-sanitizers, heredity and many other factors.

And also, I've mentioned multiple times that just adding a single probiotic supplement into your diet will not cause an substantial improvement.

I've been drinking lifeway kefir and taking pb 8 probitiocs. I havent gotten any new pimples except small ones with white bumps and a bump on my neck, which is most likely a bug bite.

Is that enough after 3 months of paleo or do i probably need more?

Also thanks for all the responses

Great work, and excellent that you are getting clear:)

Some easy steps you should do to see further improvement are:

- Adding another probiotic supplement into your diet. Choose a product with bacteria that can survive stomach acid!

- Slowly adding prebiotics from supplement or foods(see first post)

- Adding more fermented foods like f.ex sauerkraut.

These steps doesn't take a lot of work, but they will be very beneficial:)

You should probably expect that this will make your condition a little worse temporarily before it gets better.

Aright. I wholeheartedly support White fox. been on kefir and probiotics for about a week now I think and wow. My face is very uninflamed and I just feel better. Paleo & probiotics seems to be the answer.

Cool thread. Theoretically, when you've healed your gut, you should be able to eat a wider variety of foods. I didn't look through the entire thread, but are you able to eat foods you couldn't previously without a reaction?

Great, but remember that it will be ups and down in the beginning of treatment .I went through some serious shitty times before I really got better, but my case was very severe...

Looking forward to hearing from you when you have been on more pre- and probiotics for some time:-)

Yes:) see this entry: http://www.acne.org/...40#entry3263347

Paleo and probiotics gave me terrible folliculitis, die off or maybe not the answer?

If it happened during the first weeks it's definitely die-off. You have GI problems like constipation besides acne and then you have to excpect a longer recovery and more severe die-off. A period of worsening and "weird" symptoms is actually a very good indicator that treatment is working. For me this peiod lasted several months, but most people will get better sooner than that.

This is not the thread for quick fixes; which really doesn't exist in regards to a skin condition like acne. You will save years in the long run by staying committed to something you believe in for several months rather than trying a new thing every other week. I learned this the hard way after trying different stuff for years. I just want to stop others from wasting their time the same way.

But there's also one important thing people with acne seem to forget or not think about:

You are staying committed to a healthy treatment for several months and healing yourself from the inside. The ups and downs aren't shattering your belief that you are on the right path. After a while you begin to see the light in the end of the tunnel and you are left with an amazing feeling. A sense of pride resulting from commitment and proving to yourself that you can do it. The health benefits and personal development are something you take with you for the rest of your life!

Does raw whole milk count (Grass fed)? What about goat milk?

Thanks

Hey:)

Bacteria:

- Quality probiotics

- Fermented foods. E.g. kefir, sauerkraut ++

- Fresh, organic, minimally washed vegetables and plant products

Prebiotics:

- Leeks, onions, chicory root and more

- Supplement, oligofructose: Start slow(1/2 ts) and work your way up

Raw whole milk has some bacteria, but isn't recommended to be a huge part of the diet because of hormones, bio-active peptides and other substances that potentially breach the gut barrier. Fermented dairy is better!

Let me start of by saying that this is one of the most informative threads I've read for a while, thanks to everyone who has contributed to it :)

I'm pretty sure my Acne and health issues are gut related - I've had Digestive issues ever since I was 11, always feeling tired, always getting colds and flu, having very little muscle mass, loosing weight, bloated, constipated, indigestion etc, and since about age 14 - acne.

I took a lot of antibiotics as a child, I suffered from Tonsillitis about 12 times a year until I had them removed aged 8, each time I took antibiotics, I blame this.

I don't drink milk as it makes my symptoms worse, yogurt and cheese are fine though.

I'm currently three months into Accutane, and want to make sure that my acne DOESNT come back, I also want to try and fix my health, I just can't put on muscle, I look and feel ill, and I'm sure it's my digestion, I never really feel hungry, or full etc.

Next week when I return to England, I'm going to go all out with Probiotics, Onion, Garlic, Leek, Organic Yogurts, does anyone know of anywhere in the UK where you can buy Sauerkraut or kefir, or even kits to make them?

Thanks

Hi:)

Yes, you have to fix your digestion or your acne will come back; trust me, I've been on 2 courses. You're under constant inflammation because of your gut and digestion.

Kits to make both sauerkraut and kefir can easily be found on google. I also found these already made products for you at google.co.uk:

Sauerkraut:

http://www.culturedp...raut-750g-.html

http://www.red23.co....720g_p_163.html

http://www.goodnessd...rised_410g.html

Kefir:

http://www.nourishkefir.co.uk/

Recommend for everyone to read the links i provided on page 1 to get a full understanding and the science behind it all:

Acne originates in the gut

Acne vulgaris, probiotics and the gut-brain-skin axis - back to the future?

Good luck:)

Hey guys,

my problem is that if I eat anything else then organic fruits, vegetables, organic coconut / olive oil (can't mix too much fat with carbs because it will give me acne on my body - arms, back, neck) or wild caugh fish I get acne.

Is it possible that my acne is because bad gut flora? I never take a lot of antibiotics but my diet in childhood was mess. I ate a lot of fastfood meals and unhealthe stuff.

I recently, after I read topic about water kefir acne solution, bought water kefir grains and tried to make my own. After first batch, which was about 500 ml, I get a lot of pimples. So tried to find if it is posible to get acne from probiotics and some people here have similar problem with probiotics especially with water kefir.

About prebiotics - I somewhere read that raisins are good source of prebiotics so I am now eating a lot of them.

Do you think I should start slowly with probiotics? something like 1 tablespoon per day? or I am sensitive to some bacteria in kefir and I should try something else? Yesterday and day before take about 5-8 tablespoons of water kefir and my skin is worse. How much probiotics are in 1 tablespoon of water kefir? is it even worth it?

Thanks a lot of if someone answer my question.

At first with pro and prebiotics things will get worse because of die off and all that your body is going through, just give it time!

UPDATE: Been Paleo 3.5 months now, and taking probiotics for about 3 weeks, asl well as drinking kefir, and

I recently added Sauerkraut. I recently hit the peak of my die off a week ago and a little inflamed, but thats only relative to how good my skin has been since probiotics. My skin is continuing to get clear and I FEEL better. My mind feel mores clear. I'm currently having stomach issues, have been for the past two days, and my skin is still improving anyways! This route really is not a quick fix, but it puts your body in ideal health, and in the end is the most effective anti inflammatory regimen. I'll update again when I'm completely clear, most likely in 1-2 weeks, 3 if I cheat a bit!
