White Fox, my skin is doing very poorly at the moment (understatement of the century), probably the worst it has ever been. Have been regular this last week after drinking milled flax seed with my kefir every morning. Still also taking probiotics. Is this worsening part of the process, should I just sit it through and hope for the best?

Now that my constipation has resolved is my skin not supposed to improve? It does not make sense. Help, please.

One week won't make any difference at all. Inflammation, acne formation etc. takes a long time. You can waste your time forever trying a treatment for a couple of weeks and then jump onto something new. Give something you believe in a long time or you'll never get better. As I said earlier, it's a reason most people only improve on accutane after 4--6 months.

In my opinion drinking mlled flax seeds is one of the worst things you can do as they are very hard on the digestive system. Offcouse they are going to make you more regular, they contain A LOT of fiber.

Stick to meat, fish, fowl, eggs, vegetables, olive oil, coconut oil etc. and A LOT of probiotics and prebiotics.

If you're not going to give the treatment time you should actually find something else and come back when you're really dedicated. Because if you get tired after 1 month you have just wasted that time.

Good luck Lilo, and I know how shitty and frustrating acne can be. Look at the long term is my only recommandation, visualize it!

Lilo I'm on anti-inflammatory paleo diet again, but today is the second day of my diet. After 2 days I'm 90% clean lol... 2 days, I don't know what's going on. I'm eating fish, smoked fish, grilled fish, cooked fish, vegetables and only bananas. That's all smile.png but you know I'm taking all supplements to heal my guts. L-glutamine, Colostrum, Lactoferrin, Multivitamin and what will happen after a month. smile.png Heal your gut smile.png and don't drink dairy kefir

Remember that there will be ups and downs you have to get thorugh even though you feel you have gotten better on day 2.

Your diet is great, a lot of meat and fish, bananas is the only thing some people have issues with. Those supplements are also okay(I've previously used some of them), but I hope you also have fermented foods, quality probiotics, prebiotics etc. in your diet as they will speed up your healing.

Colostrum can cause issues for some people as it contain certain hormones.

Dairy kefir is actually a good product for most people. Lactose, IGF-1 etc. are reduced during fermentation.

Hope you don't mind that I chime in with my two cents:-)

I take probiotics all the time biggrin.png Bananas are quite good for me and I don't eat them so much, only 2-3 a day smile.png I haven't had gases, bloating or something like that ater eating bananas, fish and vegetables today. My skin looks really awesome, 90% clean in 2 days, but I don't eat meat, cut dairy, gluten, soy, nuts smile.png My skin condition is really great, but the question is how long smile.png

Thanks, I have no intention of giving up. Giving up and doing what? That will bring me no closer to finding a solution. Just did not realise that regularity will worsen my acne. I had severe constipation on normal Paleo, flax is the only thing that helped. Maybe I should just try drinking Mg citrate again? Or soak the flax prior to as suggested by deja? Or probiotics overdose?

Glad for you, Bartek, had to laugh at the various cooking methods you have for fish, haha, as opposed to eating this food and that food. I'm having trouble with fish and veg, not very, shall I say, appetizing.

So, I'm assuming kefir is OK then, it was mentioned on gutflora.

Also struggling with insomnia for past 2 nights, maybe all this is part of herxmeier?

Hahaha I'm laughing at my various methods too , lol 😀 My skin or my body is weird. One time I have clean skin even when I'm eating junk food, chocolate etc and when I'm eating good things I have a bad skin. No rules about it 😀 Right now I'm 2 days on Paleo but I don't know... I'm not really happy about my almost 100% clean skin.

I don't eat meat at all, only fish like salmon, cod, trout etc because they are anit-inflammatory, you may check on: http://nutritiondata.self.com/ biggrin.png I'm 100% sure that meat (prok, beef, turkey, poultry etc) is inflammatory and it's a reason why I avoid it smile.png

I cannot stomach ANY probiotics. 1 cup of yogurt will ruin me for days. I've tried this experiment many many times. Kefir, Kombucha, yohurt, expensive probiotics, homemade saurkraut, and fermented pickles.

The last time I tried it, I had about 2 cups of yogurt and had BAD stomach problems accompanied with a metallic taste in my mouth for almost 2 weeks.

a lot of people cant actually digest dairy, even if they think they can, 60% of people can't, and doctors usually refer to non-infants that can digest it as abnormal

Anyone know whether if gluten allergies are displayed through blood food intolerance test?

I just got my results saying I am not intolerant or allergic to anything. Very funny.... I guess I really am not, although I know that eggs give me hard digestion and once I had this terrible reaction to a certain unknown food.

Anyways, drinking a Smoothie from Spinach, Brocollis, Carrots, 1 Apple and blended with Kefir is like the beast most nutrient dense drink I make for myself. If I drink that and avoid much sugar, I can stay acne-free for as long as I want. I currently am too.

But if I eat Pizza, or junk food I'll get one a day after.

dairy causes acne, studies confirm anyway (recently)...i have a gluten allergen, my symptoms were many, sinuses, acne, gas, bloating, bloody stools, etc...gluten coupled with dairy gave me major issues, but now that they are out of my diet there is no more acne.

and to answer your question, not always...gluten has three types of allergens. anti-bodies in the blood is for two of them, but then there is the one where it isnt in the form of gluten anti-bodies. and that one is the scariest because it is very hard to diagnose, if you have any personal reactions, then by all means avoid gluten...you dont need a blood test to know it

if you soak/sprout and then grind the flaxseeds into a gooey liquid, they won't be hard on the digestive system at all. In fact, they will actually soothe and heal a broken gut. But I agree, flax is no good unsoaked.

Agreed, properly prepared flax seeds will be much better, but they still contain a fair amount of anti-nutrients. The reason I said it's a bad idea is that Flax seeds contain a lot insoluble fiber which is a big problem for most people with digestive issues like Lilo has.

As I said earlier, everything with a lot of especially insoluble fiber(like flax seeds) will make you more regular. But it does nothing to improve your actual digestive problems. Remember what I posted on page 1 from Dr. Art Ayers: Constipation is due to lacking gut flora which results in impaired digestion.

It seems you have a problem grasping the concept. Don't do any seed-drinks, citrate drinking or whatever. Stick to the regimen in the original post and you'll be fine.

why is meat anti-inflammatory? i would argue the opposite based on how acidic it is and how long it takes to digest

I disagree. Processed, nitrate filled meat is not good.

Meat(preferably organic) is great for most people when helping acne and their digestive system. Most people manage to digest meat very well even with a damaged gut flora.

Quality meat is not inflammatory. Look at research from Dr. Art Ayers, Dr. Loren Cordain, Petro Dobromylskyj and many more. Our ancestors ate a lot of animal products, do you really think they were under constant inflammation?

I cannot stomach ANY probiotics. 1 cup of yogurt will ruin me for days. I've tried this experiment many many times. Kefir, Kombucha, yohurt, expensive probiotics, homemade saurkraut, and fermented pickles.

The last time I tried it, I had about 2 cups of yogurt and had BAD stomach problems accompanied with a metallic taste in my mouth for almost 2 weeks.

This is a 100% clear sign that you have a dysfunctional gut flora. You have to stick with the product for weeks until your gut adjusts. And you have to start SLOW and build your way up. Be sure to find a quality product, Grass-fed, organic, no added sugar and with live cultures:)

Good luck!

So I guess I would like to ask if theres any way I can get good flora without these measures. I AM growing herbs/spices and vegetable garden I can consume these unwashed

Self-grown, unwashed herbs/spices and vegetables are GREAT!!! Buy a quality probiotic supplement also and eat some fermented food. Prebiotics from leeks, onions etc.

What kind of intolerance test did you do?

For everyone:

Please not derail this thread with other measures you're trying to use against acne. This thread is about healing your gut and reducing inflammation through Anti-inflammatory / Paleo Diet, beneficial bacteria and prebiotics.

Good luck everyone, and if you do the regimen posted in the original post on page 1 you'll be in great shape:D

I have tried Garden of life probiotic, the specific probiotic that GAPS recommends(along with trying the GAPS diet for 2 weeks.) and a few others. Everytime I tried it i lost my appetite and became violently ill with 6-7/10 stomach pains and constant gas. It was too miserable, total nightmare. Any other ways to correct this problem?

This is a good sign since it is a classic die-off reaction. You have to start really slow(1 capsule a day) and then slowly work your way up. You have to stick with it for weeks until your gut adjusts.

Remember that just taking a single probiotic supplement won't do much for most people. Diet, several sources of beneficial bacteria and prebiotics are necessary.

Good luck!

If it helped, I would be open to continuing it like you said, but also be open to experimenting without it. Something else that is important about flax is that it can mess with your hormones, the same way soy or certain other foods can. This won't necessarily worsen your situation, it probably depends on what is happening with your hormones in the first place. But I've been experimenting these past few months, seeing how things effect my monthly cycles. Last month I loaded up on flax all month, and this month i did no flax at all. There have been some noticeable changes in my body's behavior during PMS....

I wouldn't recommend a probiotics overdose, that's for sure.

the reaction is to probiotics. I am able to eat icecream. same reaction with oral probiotic pills

Same here. This probably means that you have leaky gut like I do. I'd still take in probiotics, just slow. Really slow. A spoonful of something fermented every few days, if that's what you need to do. I recommend kimchi, it's the best fermented food I've found and I've never had a bad reaction to it yet. (google kimchi if you don't know what it is)

I agree with you, I've actually read that grass fed beef is anti inflammatory because of the good fats and what not. I know it has a lot of CLA's, which is a healthy kind of fat. http://www.eatwild.com/cla.html

Even if some meat is inflammatory, it's okay to eat some inflammatory/acidic foods. We (at least, I do) need heavier foods for the dense nutrients they provide. The key is eating them in balance with the alkalinizing foods. As in, a huge plate of salad and vegetables with a small serving of meat, not the other way around.

Gah... I've been on this board for years and years and I still don't know how to quote multiple people in a way it shows their names... lol sorry

The fact is that you will find experienced people who will back anything: Low-fat, high-fat, plenty of animal products, vegetarian diet and so on

But there's a reason why most of the experts on gut health recommend a diet similar to the paleo diet:

- Meat and fish need very little digestion from gut flora and are usually well tolerated by most people

- Grains, legumes and seeds contain several anti-nutrients and certain proteins that can increase intestinal permeability. They also induce a strong insulin response

- People with digestive problems usually have damaged enterocytes, and fat digestion needs little work from enterocytes.

The guy you mentioned(Caldwell B. Esselstyn) seems to be an expert on heart disease, and I've never come across any expert on gut healing that recommends the same diet as he does. Other than that I have to say that I think his recommandations are flat out insane, and from reading his website I find several claims that are simply incorrect. I can address those further if you want in another post.

Other than gut flora high stomach acid (HCL) is required for good digestion and to kill all the bad bacteria/viruses. Alcohol, excessive ca/mg, stress etc. decreases stomach acid. Celery, carrot, beet lime water are some foods that increases stomach acid.

I don't have any symptoms after eating dairy, meat, gluten etc. but I still have acne and I know it depends on food. When I eat only fish and vegetables I'm clean. Yes it needs very little digestion from the gut flora but tons of energy to break down the amino acids inside your stomach, which is where proteins are broken down. Our PH of our stomach acid is very similar to herbivores, while omnivores and carnivores have lot and lot more acidifying stomach acid.
