Made my own kraut for the first time! I put too much in the mason jar, so when I opened it up, the kraut expanded and was overflowing! A nice sign of fermentation and probiotics :) So much tastier and more affordable than the prepackaged stuff too!

On the same note, today I took a 36 hour batch of goat kefir, and put it in a mason jar with the lid tightly on. It should turn out more carbonated over the next 12 hours, and I'll report if that happens!

I am taking mega aciduphilus 1.5 billion bacteria per capsule i take it 2 times a day for 2 weeks now dont see any improvements on my skin yet -.- i eat vege and fruits no dairy . no sugar .. BUT i eat white rice -.- is it ok ? but i already switch to brownrice 2 days ago and my skin is healing from the old breakouts .

As mentioned multiple times; just taking 1 probiotic supplement with a couple of probiotic strains will make no difference. Atleast not one with only 1,5 billion bacteria per capsule. Also, 2 weeks will make no difference.

Rice is okay, but you will get optimal results by only sticking to paleo-foods+butter and fermented dairy in the beginning!

For me I know that very hot spices are problematic.

Good luck:)

So how many capsules should i take per day for me to see noticeable effects 10 billion good bacterias ? i think eating white rice contributes to my acne -.-

i also eat garlic and onion for PRE-biotics :))

uhmm 1 more question .. do i need to perform the liver flush when im on this diet ? im following the gut diet 😀

You have to get beneficial bacteria from several sources (i.e., fermented foods, supplements, minimally washed veggis). Supplements only contain a couple of probiotic strains.

No liver flushing necessary.

I have to disagree on that point. I feel that liver flushing is necessary for me. I just did one yesterday and a ton of gunk came out and as soon as it was out I experienced a drastic lift in mood, less pain in my body, my skin looked better, everything. I don't think you have to liver flush often, but that was my first flush in over a year and I immediately felt better after that stuff was out of me. It may not be necessary for everyone, but it can definitely work alongside the gut healing protocol.

Water kefir grains should be coming in the mail today or tomorrow :) Super stoked! I'm going to use the water kefir much more than the dairy kefir for now, just to minimize the chances of inflammation with the dairy.

Ahhh you're going to love it! I'm seriously addicted to the stuff now. It's just like this yummy sour/sweet soda. Definitely try adding one squeezed lemon to your drink when it's ready!

Forgive my ignorance as i've never heard of liver flushing. I assume it is some form of detox?

You say you feel better after the crap came out?

That begs the question, what is your diet like that you have to flush your liver to make yourself feel better? I only say this as i feel good all the time and that is purely down to what i eat. So doesn't it stand to reason that if one is eating correctly then flushing is not necessary?

I am making some sauerkraut and really wanted to make lots of fermented foods to help my bloating and digestive issues. Something i came across has put me off though, it said that fermented foods can actually worsen bloating, has any experienced that? I know they can cause it at first due to die off etc but for anyone that has digestion problems have you noticed the fermented foods actually worsen things for you?

I don't know. I would like to think that, but whenever I do a detox or cleanse I always have an intense healing-crisis type reaction with all sorts of weird symptoms. I've been eating basically perfect for over two years now. 100% organic, high raw, etc. To be fair, my detox symptoms have drastically decreased compared to back when I was on the standard american diet. But I do still get them.

The way I see it, you can't really avoid toxins. You can reduce them. We are still exposed to a lot of toxins everyday, though.

To Paul25: You definitely can have some bloating, breakouts, or other negative symptoms when first introducing probiotics. That's why you need to go slow and let your system get used to them.

Does anyone know the effects of very spicy food on someone with leaky gut?

In my case, spicy food causes me to have a runny nose. So does red wine or raw scallions.

I also used to have digestive problems everytime I ate lettuce and red peppers. I must say that after being paleo for over 2 months, this problem is gone. I believe I didn't have enough digestive enzymes in my system. I have been reading a lot about nutrition and so on and it is important to eat raw vegetables and fruits so as to get these digestive enzymes.

Can anyone share a good video/article on fermenting your own sauerkraut? I did mine 3 weeks ago, but it didn't work. I think it might be because I pressed it too much. There is almost no water in the jar, now!

I just add a little water to mine if there isn't enough brine. You definitely want it under the liquid. I find that there is rarely enough brine no matter how long I massage the salt into the cabbage, but adding water works.

Sorry I don't have any video or instructions. I kinda just did it on my own because I was super confused by all the different instructions out there.

Fermented foods "always" cause some type of initial reaction due to foreign bacteria etc. That's why it's recommended to start with a small quantity. Fermented foods such as sauerkraut, kefir, kombucha++ are very healthy.

I'm having a reaction to the kombucha I've been drinking. But I'm going to press on with it for a little while. It's less of a bad reaction than it was in the past, so we'll see.

It's been one week for me and I've been having dark green stools all week? What could this mean? My digestion feels normal though.

Only green food in eating is like 4 asparagus a day, it started when I started to take the probiotic

Interesting. I really don't know what it could be. As long as you feel okay otherwise I wouldn't worry about it.

How do you know when your sauerkraut is done? Mine has been fermenting for 9 days now, i've just eaten some and it doesn't taste to bad. Once i do decide to finish it is it okay to then just put it in a jar and refridgerate it?

if you soak/sprout and then grind the flaxseeds into a gooey liquid, they won't be hard on the digestive system at all. In fact, they will actually soothe and heal a broken gut. But I agree, flax is no good unsoaked.

I just wanted to quote myself and retract this statement I made a while ago. I was really wrong about this and no longer do I believe flax to be healthy for the gut-healing program. Upon further research I discovered that all of these supposed gut healing foods like flax, okra, slippery elm--are apparently to worsen the gut. I'm getting this info from the Specific Carb Diet book and have confirmed it by giving up these foods and seeing immediate improvements.

I'd be interested to see the study on this. Can you post the link?

I got a question about sauerkraut. Today, i was out shopping food, and i saw 100% organic sauerkraut that was in a plasticbag (closed) and my question is how can i know if it is fermented or not? The best-before-date for the sauerkraut is 29 december 2012, so lets say its not, should i let it ferment in room temperature for a couple of weeks? Would this ferment the cabbage?

On the ingredients list, it says it contains cabbage and salt(which is used when fermenting by yourself).

EDIT: forgot to write that on the back of the bag, it says that it stores best at a maximum temperature of 8*C (celsius). So what should i do if im gonna let it ferment in room temperature? =P
