If you were going to attempt to ferment the already packaged sauerkraut anyway, why not just make your own? You will save a ton of money and it's incredibly easy. Just pour some salt on some chopped cabbage, massage it in, and then stuff the cabbage in a glass jar and leave it for a few days.
How do you know when your sauerkraut is done? Mine has been fermenting for 9 days now, i've just eaten some and it doesn't taste to bad. Once i do decide to finish it is it okay to then just put it in a jar and refridgerate it?
Where is it now? I ferment mine in the jar already. But yes, you refrigerate it after. 9 days is a crazy long time! I've never fermented mine beyond three days.

It is in a bowl at the moment, i have got it covered pretty well though. When i did it I didn't really have any jars available but i shall put it in one now and refridgerate it.

Yea its true, i am planning on doing that too, but since i am going to be fermenting it for 3-4 weeks, i was just curious to know if the packaged sauerkraut from the store was fermented, beacuse i would like to eat it today and not have to wait 3-4 weeks until i ferment my own. But thanks for answer =)
I really feel like I need more sources of probiotics but I'm not sure what to do. I can't really afford the supplement right now. I want to try dairy yogurt but I'm still a little nervous considering how violently I've reacted to dairy in the past. I wish there was some way to test if my gut has healed.
Hey it's me again
So basically the treatments going well but i still get very small spots on my face. I'm 4 months or so into treatment and i've literally eaten anything moldy that i can find. So basically i was wondering if you could suggest any probiotic sources? Since you got clear on this you must have gotten all of the necessary bacteria from the food you ate, could you actually say what probiotic and what fermented food you ate and how much you ate? That'd be super
I can list all my sources:
Kefir yogurt
blue cheese
cottage cheese
saurkraut-organic
fermented pickles
natural organic full fat greek yogurt
yogurt enhanced with bifido and acidophilus
Primal defence probiotics ( recommended by the guy on "gutflora")
I've stopped eating dairy now thought as when i came of accutane is started to cause acne again.
p.s. i've been asked to be displayed on the website as a success story would you believe!

Yeah, when i was on accutane i noticed dairy didn't cause any issues for me. But after i'd stopped my skin gradually got worse as i'd become so accustomed to eating diary. Then i realized it was dairy and my skin went back to normal- that is mild acne. I discovered i could probably handle half a bowl of yogurt a day without issue.

That looks good! I think you should stay on that diet. It seems from this thread and the people I've been in contact with through personal messages on the forum that everyone who sticks to the diet for 3+ months see great results, without exeptions.
In my experience, fermented dairy products with no added sugar are rarely a problem even for acne sufferers because they contain very little lactose, hormones++ However, you eat a lot of dairy products so there should be no problem cutting some of those from your diet. If you want to add more fermented foods you can check out kombucha. Be sure to eat different types of vegetables to get the needed soluble fiber:)
It really warms my heart to see that this thread has already helped people clear their acne. I remember the frustration acne brings, and I can literary feel the pain of acne sufferers I see on the street. Although I feel that dealing with acne has made me a better person, I also wish that I had the correct information a long time ago so I could have avoided the years of pain, the damage from accutane and other harmful treatments and the scars.
Keep sharing the knowledge:)
I tried my sauerkraut and hated it, no surprise really as I don't have any liking for cabbage. I am now trying to ferment romaine lettuce, carrots and ginger root. I just mixed them together and giving it a try. Does anyone know if this will be much good? I read you can try fermenting many vegetables so I thought i would give these a go.
I must have jinxed it or something because i'm breaking out in very small spots suddenly.
Three days ago i got a common cold but i needed a job, so i still went out and walked around town a lot. That day i also had bad stomach cramps and some.....stool problems. The second day i had to go shopping even though i had a cold, despite this i still got better. No stomach problems that day.
As far as i can remember i got ill and then suddenly i started to break out quite a bit, have you ever heard of something like this?
I haven't eaten anything i shouldn't but i guess it could be because i stopped accutane like 5 weeks ago and perhaps that was covering up some food intolerance. I doubt it though.
I've also thought that it's perhaps the FOS or insoluble fibre. Not sure what to think
Lastly i have considered the fact it may be masturbation, but again i doubt it.
Help is appreciated
Would appreciate any input.

Digestive problems are a sure sign of inflammation-->acne.
My best tip is to not obsess about the daily ups and downs, but to look at the progression over weeks and months. That's what counts.
Compare it to weightlifting. Some days you'll have a great day and lift heavier than you did the previous day. Other days you'll feel terrible and have to lift lighter weights than usual. However, as long as you increase the weight (progress, get better) over months that is all that matters.

Awesome.
Not obsessing about the small ups and downs is the key. From what I can tell so far, this is a two steps forward, one step back sort of deal. You guys just consider yourself lucky that you don't have the rollercoaster of female hormones and PMS-time. It's so depressing to have three weeks of progress and then a bunch of horrible cysts. I think in my case it was more the stress I'm going through but PMS definitely makes stress worse.
Still though, when I look at the overall picture, my cysts are smaller and less painful than they were at this time three months ago. I'm hoping that the longer I stick to this, the more my gut will heal, which means less inflammation in my body and hopefully healthier hormones and stress levels.
Holy cow! Water kefir grains multiply WAY faster then milk kefir grains. Anyone try eating them like probiotic capsules?
I've been eating my water kefir and milk kefir grains(used for coconut milk). Both are multiplying very quickly, and I heard its really good to eat them. I drink a quart of water kefir and a can's worth of coconut milk kefir daily as well.
Maybe I'll try eating one on a day where I won't have work for a few days and see what happens.
Question: An increase in gas and bloating is a good sign that the probiotics are getting in there and doing their job, correct? Because I didn't experience too much bloating in the beginning, but now that I'm at 2+ glasses of strong water kefir a day, I've been getting a ton of bloating, gas and new breakouts. That said, the breakouts, although still deep and painful, seem to be continuing the trend of going away sooner and not turning into those puss-filled, infected lesions I used to get. They are now more like hard red bumps deep under the skin that are painful but slightly less inflamed and start to go down after about a week.
My experiment is currently ruined though, because I've had an absolutely horrible week, to the point of crying for days and puking from the stress. My living situation is fucked up and I feel very insecure and worried right now. As soon as this situation began happening, I got multiple new cysts. Like literally, I finished sobbing, looked in the mirror and saw a ton of new breakouts. So that has to be the stress, I'd say.
Another problem: Since the bloating and gas started, I seem to becoming more constipated, not less. I just went to the bathroom for the first time in 2 days. That is NOT normal for me. I seem to recall this exact thing happening any time I attempted probiotics in the past. Is this just some weird part of healing? Are things slowing down in order to let the bacteria heal my gut lining? This is troubling.
Any thoughts?
Like I said, it's happened with all other forms of probiotics I've tried. Kombucha, Primal Defense, etc. The only difference is, this is the first time I've stuck through and continued the treatment despite these reactions, hoping that healing is occurring and that maybe my gut and skin will heal. I've never been this far into probiotic treatments before so I have no clue what to expect!
Do you have to use cabbage when fermenting foods? It seems every site I have read about fermenting foods has cabbage in there ingredients. It is just making me wonder if my lettuce, carrot and ginger root isn't going to be much good.
I don;t see any reason why not. I also hate the taste of regular sauerkraut, but something like kimchi where you have cabbage, onions, garlic, and spices tastes so much better. I get fermented veggies from a local company and they have all sorts of different mixtures that taste good. One is beets, kale, and seaweed. Another is fermented cabbage, but with lemon juice and ginger. Adding spices will make it taste much better. Like I said, I can;t stand regular fermented cabbage(sauerkraut). Try out your mixture and let us know how it goes.
Hey, what do you guys think of bamboo shoots, i just found it today in the store, and its 100% bamboo shoots with no addiotional ingredients. the amazing thing is that it has only 3g of carbs per 100g size, 0mg cholesterol and 0g fat while it has vitamin A,C,Calcium and iron, potassium, copper, manganese and vitamin B-6, riboflavin, phosphorus and zinc. Could this include in the Gut-Diet? If yes, this would totally save me as its very cheap over here.
And also, what about coconout milk? This one i found had only 1g carb and 6g fat per 100g. i always thought coconout was high in carb due to the sugar, but i guess i was wrong then. Could this be something i could replace the standard cow milk?
I looked up bamboo shoots and couldn't find any info in the specific carb diet plan. Maybe she wasn't aware of them at the time she wrote the book. Coconut milk, according to her (Elaine Gottschall, the author), can be added after being on her gut-healing plan for at least 6 months. Apparently it's something that isn't very good for the initial stages of healing. BUT--I just noticed she also says that chicory root is illegal and bad for the gut. And according to other sources, that's one of the prebiotics that is supposed to HEAL the gut. Just like some sources say that okra is good for the gut and she says it's bad.
I'm more inclined to listen to her because when I was still eating okra, flax and other "illegal" foods, I was breaking out horribly. But it seems that her views conflict with other gut-healing plans and I'm totally confused by this!
I see that a lot of people are wondering about "uncommen" foods and whether they can be included in the diet, If in doubt I recommend that you check out www.marksdailyapple.com. Just search for the food in question and you'll usually find answers.
