I've had no luck with much this past month. I've bit the bullet and decided to start treatment using Retin-A (Tretinoin). The treatment consits of using 0.05% cream every other day or and continuing for however long i require. The reason being is that tretinoin is known to stimulate collagen production nto the skin, helping me repair the damage i have attributd over the years of not using sunscreen and acne products together. i have accumilated damage to the dermis from benzoyl peroxide usage without sunscreen and too high percentage and using very strong drying products that have caused skin barrier damage. I know you mentioned it takes 3 months before results to show themselves for the niacinamide, but i'm going to do this anyway as i believe it can repair the skin over a long time. Retin-a initually thins the epidermis because it causes a peeling effect to the skin, makign the skin shed quicker and you look quite rough for few months. I've used it for a week and i've just got alot of peeling and thats about it. If youre skin is very sensitive, this will make you have major problems as this product is strong.
Anyway. Tretinoin has been shown to thicken the dermis and epidermis over time and that is what i am attemping to do!
i don't advise you to do this. use niacinamide and glucosamine complex. if you need to use a cream, fine, use olay's total effects tone correcting night cream but for goodness sakes don't use tretinoin. it will take just as long if you used only nia + nag. i used tretinoin and it didn't work a lick. i don't know, but you really need to trust the process and just use the niacinamide and nag.
but if you want to take the plunge and use tretinoin, go ahead...but i strongly advise against it.
tretinoin was never tested to heal skin dryness. never. only pimples and wrinkles.
niacinamide and NAG have been tested and proven to heal the skin barrier. it has healed mines. it just takes time.
stop obsessing in the mirror...put the solutions on day and night, and LIVE! live your life and before you know it, your skin will be better!
How long can I store the serum and should I add vitamin E to extend its shelf life? Do you add anything to make the serum absorb better? And can I add EGCG as a bonus and use seabuckthorn seed oil along the regimen? So you'll just mix niacinamide, NAG, purified water to spray bottle or something and spray it to your face? So how should I cleanse my face, only purified water once a day or few days a week? I get lots of white dried sebum or something to my face and it will build up fast and its really visible, so washing my face only few times a weeks sounds horrible. I might have seb derm, even my dermatologist suspected that but she wasn't sure. I tried Nizoral shampoo which only made things worse. Now Im using one seb derm cream from BiON and seabuckthorn seed oil. I have redness on cheek area around nose, nose, chin, temples and some random red areas on my cheeks. I have also unlimited amount of tiny skin colored bumps which are not even symmetrical. My skin pretty much resembles oranges texture. I have blackheads, small red spots, bumps, some acne and keratosis pilaris like shit on my body. YAY. I also get really sharp itching to same certain spots on my face occasionally and weird tingling around body like someone using my body as a keyboard and typing gently with fingers.
I think my skin problems started when I started to get this white sebum out of my pores and I began to scratch this rough dried sebum shit out of my skin, from face and body. Then I started to use harsh products like bp, aha, bha and retin-a which in the end made my skin lots of worse. I feel like it goes worse year by year. I don't know what is the problem, dehyrdarted skins symptoms are similar to my skins, it also might be seb derm or something really weird. I never get normal zits and this doenst look like regular acne at all, i just have redness, small bumps and white shit coming out of my pores. Horrible, id rather have smooth skins with some random spots here and there than this ancient ruin. And im 21 years old lol. Maybe your dehydrated skin regimen might help.
Is it bad for your skin to use niacin for a long period of time?
if you're worried about use of niacinamide, then just use the glucosamine. i use the glucosamine only and my skin is fine. if you have dark marks, the niacinamide will help them fade faster if you use niacinamide and nag together. if you just use nag to help the skin barrier then just use it. nag means glucosamine (n acetyl glucosamine)

try looking at previous posts, it's kind of hard for me to keep repeating the same information.
anyway, the mixture doesn't need any preservatives. all components are pretty stable. how amazing is that?!
and no don't add all that other stuff, i don't know what that stuff is or what benefits they have for the skin.
just use niacinamide and nag. if you can, just use nag...because i think it will help your skin heal itself better over time, that's what i have been using by itself for past couple months and my skin has healed in leaps and bounds. the niacinamide can be used here and there for an extra push i guess or help prevent acne.
as for face washing, use the mixture...spray the face...then use a clean piece of cloth or papertowel and gently wipe your face. spray face again. leave alone.
do it once a day. dont go overboard.
for dead skin accumulation, gently remove with your hands/finger nails.
aaaand, as for the other things, try taking vitamin d supplements. they might help your other skin problems. get your vitamin d levels checked....and eat some kale.
i hope this helps my dear.
Just a question for anyone to answer here: How did everybodies dehydrated skin become that way? Was there a product you used for example?
For me it was using a anti-bacterial cleanser for acne that you leave on for 5 minutes then wash off.
Also, has anyone looked at supplementing Hyaluronic acid internally. I've seen some threads about some users getting dehydrated skin from topicals and one user has used capsules for skin that contain hyaluronic acid that has helped that person completely recover.
I'm also wondering whether we can make a private blog to share photos? I dunno maybe it might help us see how similar we look. Just a thought.
I found a topic on essentialdayspa.com called "Retin A creating open pores and bad texture". Don't worry, the thread has turned me off using that drug. However, a user on there called Skindeep77 who is describing her problem as exactly as our own. Her dehydrated and damaged skin was caused by Retin-A and she had the problem for nearly 2 years! She took supplements that contained hyaluronic acid that returned her skin to the way it was before the damage.
the supplements were: (All taken internally)
Neocell Fish Collage with HA (she dropped this one later on, but i think it might be wise to use it)
Source Naturals Skin Eternal Hyaluronic acid (she kept on using this one)
she took these ones later on...
Evening primrose oil (For the omegas i guess)
Nutiva Hemp seed oil (rich in omegas)
she also states that she used Elastica Bounce back cream as well as changing that to CeraVe PM. She first stated that she used CeraVe at the start but it did not work as the skin did not respond. However, once she used the supplements and used it again, it worked for her a second time around. That's some food for thoguth as when i used it a couple of months ago, it did not seem to do much.
I've ordered some hyaluronic acid tablets from a different brand (hopefully they're going to do the same thing) and recently started to take Vitamin C tablets too. I probably will strat with some Omegas also when i get the chance.
If you use just the gluco. Are the measurements half a teaspoon to the same amount of water
just use 1 teaspoon of nag and then the rest 3 oz of distilled water

this sounds amazing ninjax...i might try taking hyaluronic acid tablets...i don't know if i ever tried them before. i remember reading about them....but i dont remember if i ever bought any and used it...it MIGHT help! thanks again...yeah you can use cerave pm or olay's total effects night moisturizing tone correcting cream. if skindeep77 said that worked for her, you should give it a try. i think that the cerave pm may have worked because it has niacinamide in it...which helps with the skin barrier.
how many mg's are the hyaluronic tablets?

these are the tablets she took 2 in the morning, 2 at night
Don't supplement with hyaluronic acid, use it topically instead. Like with collagen pills, it can hinder the body's natural ability to produce collagen if taken orally. It's a controversial supplement and might harm you more than it can help you. I use a B5 & hyaluronic acid serum on my face and it helps with texture, hydration, and scarring.

but hyaluronic acid on the face, in the long term, damages the skin. it doesn't work. it keeps the skin wet...therefore causing damage. DO NOT use hyaluronic acid, folks. it will cause wrinkles. it plumps up the face temporarily but doesn't heal.
niacianamide, n acetyl glucosamine, and even B5 HEAL...hyaluronic acid doesn't....

Where did you read this about hyaluronic? It's used in fillers too, so I'm surprised you say it causes damage long term. Do you have any sources to back this up?
For the OCM is it ok to use it with castor oil? I might have to try and forget about where emu oil comes from as there are many gd reviews on it :/
Use a good quality, properly bottled, fresh safflower oil. It's nearly 80% linoleic acid, a major component of normal sebum that protects skin. Acne and other problem prone skin has been found to be deficient in linoleic acid. A couple of gene/enzyme mutations have been identified as causes. I use Napa Valley Organics from whole foods. $8 for 750ml 25oz. With the cooking oils. Stay out of the cosmetics/ cleanser aisles. Put a small amount for daily use in a small dark bottle and store the rest in the refrigerator
I have not got a spray, but i have got a Serum which i got from ebay that has 5% Niacinamide. I think serums are better than sprays for the reason of getting more active onto the skin than with sprays which can be trickier to get on evenly. However both methods will work.
About the hyaluronic acid tablets. Well, what can i say. A member on the forums has had what we are suffering from and she achieved a significant different in skin hydration after taking for 2 months that is hyaluronic acid and collagen 2 tablets. I suggest anyone who is interested by looking at EDS forums member Skindeep77 posts. It's a good insight for those who have had little success treating their skin and want to try internal methods.
Make of it what you will.
because a scientist who studied skin said it on his website and in his skin care forums (dr. pickart of skin biology) i don't know how true his products work but i do believe what he has to say about some things. hyaluronic acid did nothing to help my dehydrated skin. nor did glycerin...or any other humectants. they seemed to just make my skin worse.
using niacinamide + n acetyl glucosamine have been the only actives that have truly helped my skin heal itself. not just slap a temporary fix. you can read dr. pickart's opinions about topical hyaluronic acid at his website skinbiology and at his skinbiology forums...just do a search for the terms in google. if you want to keep using it, that's fine, but i'm not using something that a) didn't work for me anyway and b) could possibly do damage to my skin.
