When you rub your skin, does it somewhat feel a bit like tissue paper? That is a common trait of dehydrated skin. The oily skin is common whether you have dehydrated skin or not. I used to have very oily skin and it was not dehydrated. Now my skin is not so much oily, due to the cleanser i used, and now it is dehydrated.
It is my perrsonal belief that no cream or lotion will indeed make it better. It just doesn't seem to work that way when it comes to damaged skin. There has to be an active in the product for a change to occur. Somedays, do you ever have relief. Have you just had one day where you've woken up and looked in the mirror and looked good or better? I sometimes get that when i wake up and look in the mirror. It can look good, but then within an hour or two it's all gone to hell
I'm unsure about how many times i will exfoliate. I might try once every two days or even might start every day after a while, depending on how my skin reacts. Exfoliating in itself is not bad, it's just the methods used to exfoliate that are sometimes bad. They can micro tear the surface and cause more problems. That is why i have bought a microfiber face flannel. Its designed for the face and has many microfibers thinner than human hair. You can't get anymore gentle then that.
I've seen many people mention the caveman method to repair the dehydrated skin conditon. It's really not a pretty solution as it causes you to look even worse for a long time. But if all else fails, that will be my final solution before i see a dermatologist and get a skin biopspy.
Yes it does feel like tissue paper 100%.yup some days my skin looks good and then 1 hr later looks bad. I hope this two active work
you put 1 teaspoon of the niacin powder into 3 ounces of distilled water and half of 1 teaspoon of n-acety lglucosamine powder
This will make a Niacin 5% and n-acety lglucosamine 2% just spray it on your face day and night.
18 teaspoon of distilled water will make 3 ounces of distilled water. no need for any lotions or oil.
I just got my Niacinamide and NAG today. I put 1 teaspoon of Niacinamide and 1/2 a teaspoon of NAG into around about 3oz of Distilled water. I put it into a spray bottle and will use twice a day for as long as it takes. there is one issue though. What about preservatives? I'm unsure if this DIY recipe will need a preservative to stop it going bad.
No lotions or oil either? I'm unsure about that. I think it might be better to use something alongside it.
Day 1 starting for me guess I am 20 days behind you atleast.
To the OP: are you using niacin or niacinamide? There is a difference between the 2. Did you notice an improvement so far?
As for preservatives if you are making your own serum/ cream, try glycerin. I ordered NiaSerum and the ingredients are: 12% Niacinamide USP, water, glycerol BP (glycerin).
UPDATE Day 30 Niacin and NAG..
Last night I exfoliate my face with a muslin cloth ,I did it very gently. I didn't remove all of the dead skin because I didn't want to irritate my skin. After that this afternoon I was looking at my face seeing if it improve and its about 30% better. This is only 4 weeks. So I got 4 more weeks left to see a major improvement
I plan on doing this for a total of 10 weeks. I should see a major improvement in 4 weeks or less. I can see that my skin is more even tone. And the redness is almost all gone. The dehydration skin improve about 30%.
If anyone have any tips or ideas to help dehydration skin please post here. Im doing this to restore my skin barrier and help my dehydration skin.
I also started taking fish oils and evening primrose oil.
1 more thing I also started putting some evening primrose oil on my right temple next to my eye to see if that help my skin.Just testing
Hope this help
hey guys, i'm so glad this thread is moving! we need more people talking about this topic because so many people suffer with this problem. as for the EDS thread, that was probably me...i was trying to spread this information out to as many people as possible. my skin is 98% better after 4 to 5 months of doing what i have been doing....
i dont recommend exfoliating. ur skin is way too sensitive. just use the mixture day and night! that's it! trust the process. don't use anything else.
cleansing, for me, is scary. so i avoid cleansing. if i do need to cleanse, i spray my face with the mixture, wipe off gently with a paper towel, then spray my face again. that's it...!
yes, the combo of niacinamide and n acetyl glucosamine works, but ive been using the n acetyl glucosamine by itself for about 2 months and it's been working fantastic on helping my skin moisturize itself! ( i am not using niacinamide because i ran out and i can't afford to purchase any right now but once i am able to, i WILL be using it again)
if u need to use any oil, then use emu oil....that's the only one i trust....and u can cleanse with emu oil as well, by massaging the face with the oil and gently spraying with the mixture, then gently wiping off with a paper towel.
i dont exfoliate. if dead skin builds up, i just gently remove it...its kinda therapeutic in a way...its kinda like caveman...but with an active that aids the skin in repairing itself...
please trust the process, if u can ...do more research on what helps the skin better moisturize itself. i wanna learn with u! i wanna help u! and i want this nightmare to be over for u and for myself!
we can do it! with patience and gentleness and trust!
also, if you need to use sunscreen look for one that is OIL FREE & NATURAL (zinc oxide for example) it's difficult to find. i found one but it's like a foundation powder by bare essentials or bare minerals...some kind of make up company....but it will block out the sun and prevent the oils from stopping your skin from healing itself.
why i say avoid lotions and other oils is because they will trick your skin into thinking that it doesnt need to create moisture for itself. it's called the rebound effect or something...i researched this on EDS (essential day spa) and other forums...so i avoid lotions and other oils...but if u wanna take the risk...go ahead. i advise u not to....
also dont neglect eating kale...idk...but just keep trying to eat kale or spinach...for the lutein...
and what else?? uh...i d k...just KNOW there IS hope and your skin will be healthy again!
God bless...
Great post Cubed.
I've totally stopped using moisturizers all together, namely CeraVe. I think the moisturizer is fine on people who do not have skin issues, but those like us cannot use a moisturizer. And i think i know why they don't work. Alot of moisturizers contain Humectants. They are using to draw moisture from the lower levels of the skin onto the top layers. However, i believe that when we use them, our skins moisture escapes into the air, which is a common problem in high humidity places. I've noticed this when i use a moisturizer with glyercin or hyaluronic acid. Every time I use one, it would just get dehydrated quicker or look worse. That is why i believe we have not got results from using them. That is why I recently quit using them.
I've recently started using Every Lipid Serum with Ceramides from active formulas (UK). I bought it when i read about that it repairs the skin barrier. I don't know if i can link in this post, but PM me if you want a link. Anyway, I've had great success using it and i've only used it for 5 days. It truely is a great product and one of the only things that has made an improvement in such short time. I've just washed my face with water at night, sprayed on the niacinamide and NAG toner, then apply a 20 pence size of ELS (dime sized) and rub it into my hands and apply onto the face. I rub it in until the skin has absorbed most of it with both hands. In the morning, i would just spray on the toner without washing.
I will continue doing this and see where it takes me. I believe some of us get results slghtly differently than others. This is because i think we all damaged our skin in different ways, and require slightly similar procedures to get it back into shape.

yes, i read on skin biology forums that ceramides and other lipids can also cause the rebound effect. making your skin dependent on the oils...i suggest not using that but if u want to experiment and it really does work, then please keep us updated. as for me, i dont use any oils or anything and my skin has gotten so much better without them. on skin biology forums, the scientist over there recommends emu oil and squalane (or squalene i forgot but it's a specific one and what kind it is DOES matter so i will have to double check which one it is) works best for aiding skin moisturization. the reason i trust his opinion is because back when i first had this problem, he was the first person to say to stop using lotions because lotions will not work and will cause wrinkles. i dont think his products like copper peptides and stuff work..i really dont...but i trust his opinion on certain things...like how the majority of cosmestics are scams, don't really have the proper testing, and sell by quick results plumping and wetting of the skin (which damages the skin in the long term)
his website used to be filled with so much good information. you have to discern what to listen to and what not to listen to...but his website helped get me to really think about what i am putting on my face and what will work and not work; as well as essential day spa forums....
so...yeah...
I have dead skin all over my face, forehead, cheeks, chin, under eyes. The dead skin don't flake ,its just sticky, kinda moist, and just stick to my skin.kinda like a paste.. And I remember couple months ago that when I remove all of the dead skin, the next morning its all back. Also I cant see it,The only time I can see the dead skin is when it get wet and it turns kinda white.
Idk if I should remove it with a muslin cloth everyday so the niacin and NAG can penetrate my skin. When i touch anywhere on my face it feel very sticky , it feel like I got honey on my face 24/7..And when i scratch a small area on my face with my finger nail.I can see all this white sticky dead skin under my nail.its very thick.
So im thinking how can niacin and NAG serum penetrate with this thick, sticky, layer all over my face. it don't even flake at all its just this sticky paste all over my face and it keep getting thicker. its like my skin lost the ability to shed dead skin and all this dead skin is coming nonstop.
I remember when I was using all this strong acne products on my face couple of years ago I will get flaky skin, but never this. I think my dehydrated skin problem started when I got this sticky paste all over my face,Im 95% sure
I think that all this dead skin is coming to fast or early to the surface .And my skin is getting dehydrated because it is making too much dead skin and my skin cell is not getting enough time to live. When I think about it,how can my skin not be dehydrated when my skin is making too much dead skin. Because If my skin is making all this dead skin it means my skin is exfoliate nonstop everyday and its making my skin very dehydrated. Idk what make this happen but I think if this stop maybe my skin wont be dehydrated anymore.
Maybe I have to gently exfoliate with a muslin cloth everyday to remove all that dead skin so niacin and Nag serum can penetrate my skin and help the skin cell deep in my skin so it wont exfoliate too early,
I don't know what it is maybe someone have an idea

rare, how do you apply your mixture? do you spray it on or do you rub it on? can you take pictures? i would NOT advise exfoliation! at all! i dont know whats going on but it doesnt sound too good. keep trying to put the mixture on and don't exfoliate!

I just edited my post #65 ,I have the mixture in a vitamin bottle in the fridge and When I use it i just open the cap and put my fingers on top of the bottle and turn the bottle upside down and the mixture will wet my fingers and I will pad it on my whole face. Im going to take pictures tomorrow morning of this weird sticky paste on my face.
Im about 95% positive my dehydrated skin problem started when I got this sticky paste all over my face kinda like sticky dead skin that won't shed by itself.
I got this sticky dead skin paste all over my face way before I started the niacin and NAG.I know its not the niacin and NAG causing this.
I don't know why my skin is doing this and it don't itch

yeah, honey, i dont know whats going on. you MAY need to go to a derm...but sometimes i dont trust that they know what dehydrated skin is. they may just think it is dry skin...which is totally different. but n acetyl glucosamine is supposed to help regulate the exfoliation process of the skin. so keep using the nag. if you can, use nag by itself and leave niacinamide for later use...
when you guys touch your face does it feel like your forearm or does it feel sticky.Do you get any dead skin on your face everyday? because I have oily skin.I can wash my face at night and in the morning my whole face will be oily and shiny.I think that is the reason I get this white moist thing on my face.maybe its sebum and deadskin
I read online that when your skin cells are dry or dehydrated they will die faster and thus make more dead skin on my face. I think that is what happening to me.So i have to remove all of this dead skin cells and feed the cells that are coming ups so they can have a chance to live and make a healthy skin barrier.
Every morning there is dead skin cells all over my face and its very sticky.I think there is no way b3 and nag water mixed can penetrate this. You know when you take a shower and when your body is wet,if you scratch your chest, arm, or neck you will sometime have this white sticky deadskin substance under your finger nail. well that is what is happening to my face.
After searching online I think I have Seb derm on my face. It dont itch, and there is no crust at all but I have this sticky layer all over my face everyday. here is some links
If you read Gary G post ,That is happening to me http://www.skincell.org/community/index.php?topic=8203.0

but gary said he took it off and regretted doing that. dont remove it. just wash ur face normally and then put the nag. or go to a derm before u scrape and do more damage. i dont want u doing damage and i dont wanna scare u...i believe there is a way to fix this....take pics.

I don't know if your dead skin is the same as mine, but as soon as I stopped washing my face I built a ton of dead skin on my cheeks. Yes, it is happening because the skin is dehydrated. What I did was - I let it build up for about 2 months to the point where it actually became quite visible, then I removed it all. When I removed it, the skin was red and quite raw looking at first, but it looked moist, and healthier than it had before. Then after about a week all the redness completely went away and my cheeks were looking clearer and healthier than ever. The skin was more balanced and moist, and the marks were very faded.
That was 3 months ago. It quickly rebuilt, and now it's gotten really visible again, but what I notice about the dead skin now compared to a few months ago is that it's more crusty and less moist. It seems to be starting to shed on it's own in some areas. I'm obviously going to have to take it off now that summer is starting and my school year finished, but from what I can see my skin is doing better than it has since I was a kid. I have literally no acne to speak of anymore, I can't even remember my last zit, and from what I can see through the dead skin I don't seem to have any marks.
The big question for me is whether my skin is still dried out or not. I assume it still is or else the dead skin would probably come off on it's own (although it has started to), but I just don't know. It's a very complex issue with no obvious answer, but for me, after years of toiling with products, I just couldn't take it any more and stopped everything, no water no products... And it seems to have worked for me
Does the niacin definitely work? Y does it take so long? I have used it for a week and see no improvement
you're going to have to be patient. it takes time. it is not an overnight process. it's not even a 2 to 3 week process. i didn't see definite improvements until 2 to 3 months down the line. I am now in June I see 98% full recovery. I started this process around last year in december. because i had realized that i need to change my niacinamide to pure niacinamide powder and NOT use capsules and i had added n acetyl glucosamine (pure powder) to my regimen which i think made the process go by faster. i'm sorry but there's no way around it in my experience and to be honest, what other solutions are really out there?
