Look guys. To everyone who is not having excellent results with no-flush, try the flush kind. Nicotinic Acid is working for me, and apparently the Insitol works too.
Non-Flush Niacin has less available Niacin, hence why it doesn't cause the flush, so AFAIK you might as well just take small doses of Flush rather than big amounts of Non Flush. If no flush is working, great, if it is not, try flush =)
Just an update...It's almost been two weeks, and after how bad my skin has been during that time, it's beginning to look as if it is starting to heal. Not saying it's going to get extremely better, but as far as new spots go, I don't think there has been much activity. Just a lot of healing from the old breakouts. Woop!
hello everyone.
i just wanted to say that i've been taking niacin(flush kind) for a few years now but stopped last winter because i thought i was taking waaay too many vitamins and i had to cut back these vitamins are expensive.
During the time i was taking it my pores were invisible and i don't remember getting any acne.
i just started back yesterday taking niacin because my pores are huge and swollen.
I know you guys have discussed the side effects but i wanted to post the below information i found on people who decided to go over the recommended dosage in hopes of gettin illegal drugs out of their system:
Investigators reported on four patients who received emergency care for niacin toxicity.
Two of the patients, a 23-year-old man who abused cocaine and a 22-year-old woman who smoked marijuana, took large dosages of niacin in attempts to foil preemployment drug test results.
Both adult patients developed skin reactions within minutes of ingesting niacin, researchers reported. The patients' reactions subsided spontaneously.
The other two patients, both adolescents, had more severe adverse reactions, including nausea, vomiting, dizziness, hypoglycemia, and liver toxicity, investigators noted.
To beat a urine test, a 14-year-old boy, who admitted to smoking marijuana but denied any other substance abuse, ingested 11 500-mg tablets of timed-release niacin, totaling 5.5 g, during the 36 hours before the onset of symptoms.
A 17-year-old girl, who confessed to using marijuana and ecstasy, had a history of asthma, anxiety, and depression and had been prescribed medroxyprogesterone acetate and paroxetine hydrochloride solution.
She admitted to ingesting five tablets of niacin 500 mg for two days in an attempt to clear her urine of illicit drugs.
Both adolescents recovered after treatment for their adverse effects, researchers said.
Patients who overdose on niacin in an attempt to confound a drug-screening test are likely to be reluctant to confess to ED practitioners that they were trying to mask their illicit drug use, Heard said.
But, he said, if an emergency medicine physician does not know the patient has ingested large amounts of niacin, the practitioner might conclude that the symptoms are related to an allergic reaction or poisoning from some other substance, which could result in the patient receiving the wrong antidote or treatment.
Heard encouraged emergency care practitioners to ask patients about their use of herbal supplements or other nonprescription drugs, which often provides an opening for the patient to confess to the niacin use.
"Once the patient hears you asking, a lot of times they will come clean and tell you what's actually going on," he said.
Good luck everyone
Got a couple of pimples, they're a bit bigger than the last one, but, on the weekend, I did have lots of sugary yoghurt and ice cream so thats most likely why
But is that even possible? If it does take a few weeks for a pimple to form and become visible, then i cannot possible be from the yogurt?
I was the absolute clearest during my days when i smoked weed socially. Those days were when i smoked like 2 or 3 times a day, everyday. Eventually, i started smoking it on my own (about twice a day, everyday) and usually to unwind from the stresses of the day. It was during this period of my life when i started to brake out badly. I wasn't getting much exercise and i was getting fat from all the junk i was eating too.
If i could go back and change my drug habits, i would have just stuck to doing them with friends and only when i'm in a good mood - and only when i'm keeping myself healthy with exercise and nutritious foods.
You say you broke out badly when you did it some more. Well maybe, it is because you were stressed, eating bad foods, and that made you break out, but you did nothing about your stress and bad nutrition because you had a way to escape it, aka, weed. So maybe we could say it did help make your acne worse, because it provided a getaway from your issues, so you felt no need to fix them... Just a thought?
Not sure what you mean, but i didn't break out badly when i did it some more. I was smoking the same amount as before. As i mentioned, i did end up using weed to deal with stress. But, you're wrong when you say that i felt no need to fix my issues just because i had weed to escape it all. I felt the need to fix my issues, which is why i gave up the drugs and tobacco and started caring for my health again. It wasn't very long after i got adult acne that i began cleaning up my act.
Not once during that time did i believe that weed was THE solution to my problems. I KNEW that the solution involved eating healthy and getting active again. And that's what i did. It wasn't originally in my plans to quit the drugs (i was doing other drugs too), but that's what i ended up doing as i changed my diet and became less sedentary.

What I say to the few week theory is rubbish. If I eat bad one day, the same day or next day I'll have pimples galore.
I have not for the love of god been able to find regualr niacin. Wlagreens, CVS, Frys, Safe way Walmart...Nobody has Niacin with flush. All of them are time released and fllush free.
What the hell!!...I need to go to GNC or a health store or what!...
For a health product, yes, I would recommend going to a health store..
yeah i dont really believe in the week theory. i find that if i eat chocolate or something high in sugar, my face will get oily in the next hour or so which causes pimples to appear the next day.
anyways i haven't cleared up but there are some spots on my face that i used to breakout on and they are now silky smooth. it feels great to have normal skin again have that even texture.
as for side effects, i actually just noticed that the last couple of days my stools have been really dark and blackish. i read this as one of the side effects, but it could be also from recently eating a lot of blue berries and plums.
To any of the new people posting in this thread, I've been tracking my progress with Niacin for the past couple of weeks on my personal regimen log:
http://www.acne.org/messageboard/Attempt-C...me-t242960.html
I definitely had a few other things aggravating my acne that I have since remedied (one being that I can't use anything except all natural soap), but for the most part it seems to be the niacin that is keeping my acne under control. I am now about 95% clear so long as I take niacin every day and have a fairly controlled diet.
Hi everyone, this niacin thing is really interesting as it reminds me of my personal experience. Ive had severe acne since i was 13 and nothing i did cld keep my acne in check. Then one day when i was 19 i suddenly developed rashes all over my body.I went to a specialist and he told me that i have urticaria,a disease where my body wld get a sudden allergic reaction every now and then. Till today, i still dont know the cause of my allergy and it would appear without warning.
When my urticaria attack, the symptom is exactly like how it has been described by some of you here when taking niacin; intense mosquito-bite like itching with redness all over my body. But this will go away as suddenly as it appears after an hour or so and no marks are left behind. But what surprised me the most was during this period my complexion was completely cleared up and day by day my red marks also faded. However when i began taking an anti-histamine medication(atarax),my allergy was kept in check but my acne slowly returned. As this continue to happen, i begin to realise that i have to choose between a clear complexion but with unpredictable flushing or acne but allergy-free. Believe me, i know it sucks to have acne but i cant afford to develop rashes when im going out with my friends or giving a presentation at work so i decided to continue taking the atarax.
Although i have no experience with niacin, i believe that it really can keep our acne in check because the flushing is similar to when i develop my allergic reaction. But the good thing is you can choose to take it before bed when nobody will notice the rashes.Niacin(the flushing type) releases histamine into the body allowing rashes to form. I guess it is this reaction that prevent pimples from forming. For me whenever i have a bad breakout i will go off my medication and my pimples will magically disappear albeit the intense flushing tht i have to put up with. I hope this helps..Good luck with niacin!
I've been taking Schiff No-Flush Niacin (500mg) each morning for two weeks now, and I'm not really seeing any improvement yet. My acne is mild but VERY persistent, and has been for 24 years (ugh). I just recently suffered a horrific breakout right before trying niacin, but I'd also made the mistake of traveling for a few days without my topicals. Clearly, this turned out to be a HUGE mistake. Anyway, I can't decide if my regular topicals are repairing the damage or the niacin, or both, or if the niacin is doing anything at all since I'm certainly not experiencing this "my acne cleared immediately" crap that others are enjoying. My bottle has 100 tablets so I'll give it the full 100 days before giving up though.
time to update yall.
Ive been taking niacin NON FLUSH nature valley brand for 3 weeks. I am still acne free. I thank god that I came across this. I havnt washed my face with any soap for the past 2 weeks. Just once with water every 2 days or so. NIACIN GAVE ME MY LIFE BACK!
Something else i found. hope it wasn't posted already
B3 Niacin - It's A Rush To Flush
B3 Niacin is one of the powerful detoxifying agents known to man.
Do not panic if you turn red or your heart beats rapidly when you take pure niacin because this is a good sign that your blood is pure and toxins are being removed. Some people take as much as 500-mg. niacin three times a day until they break through their toxins and feel a burn. And the less food you have in your stomach, the quicker the niacin will get into your bloodstream to do its work. While detoxing, begin taking 50 to 100 mg. Niacin and increase by 50 to 100 mg. daily until an immediate flush occurs. Some people get a stomachache when taking niacin on an empty tummy, so judge for yourself what works best for you. Just know itas removing toxins from your blood.
Remember this general rule of thumb: if you have more toxins than niacin, you may not feel a burn through your skin. As you increase your daily niacin intake, you are increasing the amount of B3 in relation to your toxic load. When you have more niacin than toxins present, you WILL feel the burn within ten to twenty minutes after taking it.
Niacin is not found in corn, and people on a corn-based diet are usually deficient in B3. By 1942, niacin was added to enriched flour and other commercial products.
Niacin is proven to regulate blood sugar levels, is needed in the synthesis of sex hormones, and detoxifies the body of certain drugs and chemicals. It is necessary for normal mental function, and is necessary for red blood cell formation and blood circulation. B3 lowers cholesterol and is a vasodilator. It assists in the maintenance of skin, nerve, and blood vessels.
B3 is involved in the normal secretion of bile and stomach fluids and is needed for the production of hydrochloric acid, critical for proper food digestion. Like the other B vitamins, B3 helps the body metabolize carbohydrates, fats, and protein.
Individuals who are highly toxic, suffer with disease, or drink alcohol daily have an increased need for vitamin B3. Because they do not metabolize the vitamin efficiently, elderly people and individuals with hyperthyroidism also need higher doses of niacin.
Niacin is found in:
a Breweras yeast a Broccoli a Carrots a Cheese a Dandelion greens a Dates a Eggs a Fish a Milk a Nuts a Pork a Potatoes a Tomatoes a Wheat germ
WHAT TO EXPECT FROM THE NIACIN FLUSH
You may not be prepared for the aNiacin Flush.a I know a woman who drove in a panic straight to her doctoras office after taking her first dose of niacin fearing she was having a heart attack. Her doctor typically did not know what a niacin flush is, and told her that she was aallergica to the niacin. Her doctor scheduled her for a lung x-ray and breathing analysis because her niacin reaction initially made her short of breath. I wish she had called me first! My client discovered that it was simply the niacin removing toxins from her lungs and blood stream, as her lung x-ray and the many expensive lab tests her doctor had her do showed her lungs were clear.
Rest assured, niacin reactions donat cause heart attacks or breathing difficulties under normal conditions, but you must be aware that a true niacin flush is a very different experience the first time you have one. It is not uncommon for your heart to race, your skin to turn red like a sunburn, your body temperature to increase, and you may even break a sweat while you feel an adrenaline rush. This is one reason I recommend taking niacin shortly before an exercise workout, a hot shower, sex, a sauna, or steam bath. If your pores are open and your blood is flowing in an energetic manner, the niacin will quickly remove any toxins it has picked up in the blood and easily escort them out of your body through the pores of the skin. You may or may not react uncomfortably, but you can be assured the niacin is picking up toxins a thatas what youare feeling.
Note: Do NOT use time released or flush-free niacin. This is a less natural form of niacin and stresses the liver. You preferably want to use pure niacin that will activate immediately so you will know the present degree of toxicity and how to adjust your dosage
If you have more toxins in your body than niacin, you will not feel a flush, but if have more niacin present in the blood opposed to toxins, you will feel a flush. The stronger the flush, the better. At this point, begin cutting back on the milligrams of niacin.
It's a rush to flush, and remember toxins are exiting your bloodstream through your pores.
