started 250mg of niacin (the flush kind) today; thanks to all your posts. i didnt get any of the flush side effects but i did feel nauseous (but only for a half hour). i will keep an update on my progress! btw, has anyone tried brewers yeast before? ive dont a little research on that and have found positive reviews!

Which is why you should use the no-flush type - which is, after all, what the OP and one or two others have had success with. I think some people must think that the flush somehow makes it more effective?

I would have to agree, Niacin is extremely bad for rosacea so therefor I could see it having ill effects long term. Niacinamide (non flush kind of niacin) I think is fine as it doesn't cause the flushing effect that could potentially damage capillaries.
alright so im back from my vacation and im pretty suprised to see that this topic blowed up hahaha
anyways ive been taking 500 mg for the past week now and my acne is decreasing but i still do get breakouts. i still havent found a solution to shaving so i think thats what triggers the breakouts. and what ive also noticed with taking niacin is that i can get away with eating junkfood which is great.
im gonna keep on taking 500 mg of flush kind till i run out and then ill switch over to no flush to see if there is an actual difference. by the way, is everyone here taking tablets or capsules?
I'm taking tablets. As I said before I'm taking Niacin 500 mg flush kind. I have seen a pretty good improvement in my acne in the past week, which is about the time I started taking them. I have noticed that I haven't really gotten any new pimples/cysts/zits/....since I started taking Niacin. Now I just need to find something to make my red marks and scars fade.

They just seem to be different forms of Vitamin B3. I'd like to know how exactly they are different though also. Niacinamide can be bought just like Niacin, but it should say "No Flush" on the bottle. I also had good results from Niacin the first few days, and then it just went back to being horrible again. I am now on my second day of Niacinamide, as that's what most people who had success took.
I am concerned about dosage. I bought 100mg regular Niacin tablets. The dose is one a day and it says not to exceed stated dose. This gives 556% of RDA so why would you need more?
On the first 3 days I flushed badly but on day 4 I was okay possibly helped by drinking water.
Can anyone explain why it is okay to take 500mg? This would seem to exceed 2500% of RDA which seems a bit crazy.
I had a sinus infection, so I had to go to the doctor's anyway, and I asked him about taking 500 mg of Niacin daily. He said it should be fine, and that you shouldn't take 1000 mg or more unless you're under a doctor's supervision to monitor your liver and make sure it doesn't have any bad effects. Those high doses are really just used as a medicine for those with high cholesterol. B vitamins are water soluble, which means any you don't use, you just pee out. Personally, I wouldn't go over 500 mg, but I don't think it's too harmful. I mean, I'd rather pee out some vitamins than take artificial hormones and antibiotics all the time. But that's just me
