Like with any higher than normal dosing of a B-vitamin, is it advisable to supplement with a B-complex?

I'm not sure, but I do take a B-complex, which seemed to give me a little improvement before I started taking the larger dose of Niacin. I just continued taking it, and I've recently stopped taking a multivitamin because I don't want too much stuff floating around in my system all at once. Mine only has 10 mg of Niacin so it doesn't add a substantial amount to what I'm already taking, since I don't want to go much over 500 mg.

Also, if anyone's interested, I posted progress pictures in the thread in the Adult Acne forum.

Hey guys, you don't need to take the flush kind of B3. :naughty:

The improvement of your acne is due to the antinflammatory action of the niacin, not the dilatation of capillares !

So I suggest to take the Inositol Niacinate (Niacin Flush Free). You will have the same effects on your acne without any bad reaction.

Suggested doses : 250-500mg max daily

I've been using 50-75mg Niacine for 1,5 weeks now, but my acne only seems to be be getting worse. Has anyone else experienced this?

I took 500mg of the flush two hours ago, and the flush now is by far the worst I've ever had. My whole face, upper back and arms burn so bad. Has anyone else experiences this? It actually hurts.

Yeah yesterday night was my third time taking Niacin 500 mf flush kind and it was also the worst experience so far. My whole upper body got red and burnt. I also got some rashes on my leg. It was pretty cool though. HAHA.

I have red marks covered all over my face to the point my face is generally a pinkish colour which drives me crazy.

I only get a few spots now maybe from shaving - but thats it, but loads of blackheads on nose. I am covered in red marks all over face, but they seem to die down a bit after i walk my dogs and dont look so severe - what could this mean?

Also i have really oily skin which is also a pain - and face is generally more red where it is more oily - e.g nose and cheeks.

Now i think on one of the pages on this thread, someone said that taking niacin with people whos appearance settles down a bit (less red after exercising, walking etc) this could be beneficial.

So therefore could this help with fading down redness and red marks all over my face? - also i do generally have cold hands and feet most of the time if that helps with something.

Wider capillaries = more blood flow to the skin = healthy skin

Ok, so what I'm about to say may sound ridiculous, but ah well.

Can anyone confirm that red marks may be caused by blood vessels? I've heard a few reports of this, but I've never dived into the subject. So, could the quoted statement mean that if you're suffering from red marks, things could actually be worse?

I realize that I probably sound absurd, but it might be worth pointing out?

Any answers on this would be great! Thank you :)

The guy in the Adult Acne forum said that he had been taking 50mg niacin for a while with no visible results, and the results came when he switched to 500mg. I'd suggest that you bump it up to 250-500 or thereabouts. If you're using the flush kind, you might want to ease into it.

Nobody's mentioned this yet, but there's a thread on here about B5 (Pantothenic Acid), and apparently 10g of B5 each day helps most people quite a bit.

Has anyone here tried both and seen which gives better results? It sounds like the dosage of B3 (Niacin) required is much lower, so it'd be cheaper in the long run... but what about using both? Would they counteract each other or something like that?

I'm quite curious about this...

I started taking niacin around a week ago. Intitially I started with one 100mg tablet, then onto 300mg today. Got quite a bad flush which went away after 20mins or so. I'm assuming the flushes stop after you get used to it.

Currently on BP which I'd really like to stop due to the time it takes and the effect on the skin. I'm hoping to come off it eventually, but quite scared of what will happen to be honest.

I too, want to know if niacin is capable of lowering oil production levels.

Ever since getting off topicals, my skin has been EXTREMELY oily.

I can't speak from much experience since this is only my 6th day of taking 500 mg of Niacin a day, but I used to have oily skin along with my acne. I'd wash my face, and It would be oily again within an hour. My makeup would literally mix with the oil on my face and look all blotchy. Now, my skin tone feels like "normal" skin, not dry and not oily either. I'm also taking a B-complex with higher doses of all the B-Vitamins, including B-5, but I was taking those before I started.

B5/Pantothenic Acid is supposed to accomplish that with over 10g per day. I'm not sure about Niacin.

Anyone else here experience cotton/mouth and the over-drying of their face when they take a b50 or b100 complex with water and *without* a meal?

I just posted a new thread here about my first experience with Niacin just now:

http://www.acne.org/messageboard/weird-tim...ce-t242953.html

It was really messed up. I got a massive headache like I've never felt before and had a violent *cold* flush. Anyone care to have a read and suggest what the heck might have just happened to me?

i took my first niacin pill of 500 mg no-flush about 2 weeks ago. All my acne has cleared up since then. My skin has not been this clear in 4 years. The redness and inflamation has decreased about 70% and i finally look like a normal human being. I hope to God that this will last. It has been the best thing i have ever tried since accutane....thanks so much to the OP of this thread and the OP of the other thread in the adult acne forum. I will continue to update as time goes along.

Congrats bro! That's just awesome! I am going to keep doing my 500 - 750 mg of Niacin flush a day for another week to see if it will work like the no flush type does for most other people who had success. I found that the flush effects have been getting weaker and weaker. I kind of miss the intense flush I got the very first time I took it, but this should be normal. If I feel that the Niacin flush isn't working for me, I will definitely try the no flush stuff.

Good luck to anyone else still using Niacin!

Yeah keep popping back and updating us. How much did you start off with, and how long did it take to notice any changes?

I started with half of a 250 mg tablet, twice on the first day. It's been about 4 or 5 days since starting and have been doing two 250 mg tablets a day. Redness went down a lot and my skin just kind of feels better. I have gotten a few more pimples, but they seem to be the ones that disappear real quick.

Wow, I'm scared to think what would have happened if I took 500mg my first time. There must've been some kind of interaction with something else I did... ginger root??

The difference is that RockstarNailbomb took no-flush and you took flush.

Why don't you try no-flush as well? At least we have documented proof that no-flush is working for some people.
