On another note of hormones, it's been that "time of the month" for the past four days that I've been taking the 600 mg, and I have almost no cramps. So hopefully this is helping with the cramps. It might also be the ACV being anti-inflammatory, but either way, it makes me mucho happy.
Oh shoot, I take that back.
Eeep.
So I cheated and ate something really junky and sugary (like 12 g of sugar in one sitting) and not an hour later I was literally writhing in pain from the cramps. I also felt tired and like I couldn't concentrate.
I took some Aleve and am drinking some ACV/hot water (ACV ) and it's getting better.
However, this says a lot about the affect that sugar has on my hormones/acne. This makes sense because Niacin is supposed to help control insulin and fat and all that, and they're connected...Lot of scientific stuff that's hard to explain.
So on a slightly related note, I saw a story on the news about the amount of sugar in the average Western diet, and how it increases tendencies of high Triglycerides, IBS, high cholesterol, heart disease, etc. So more and more people are starting to see how these things are interconnected...
And yeah, weenie, it's weird :/ Oh well
if i aint flushin, it aint workin for me....
interesting to see another person gettin FAST results with flushin....
i got like 3-4 mini razor bump white heads from shaving 2 days ago that i was able to scrape right off... that was the only acne i have had in the last 2 weeks...
but other than that, no cysts or big bump whatsoever, whichis pretty amazing for me, best results ever.... i can eat whatever the hell i want to and be normal and drink a lot with out any skin trama which is f'in awesome....
just hope there are no long term side effects and my body eventually normalizes so i can lower my dosage down from 500 mg to eventually zero
Well, I've been taking the flush kind and I haven't seen any results. I guess it might keep your acne at bay, but I hadn't been forming any new spots beforehand, so I can't really comment on it.
I've got a question: Has anybody seen improvement with their red marks/hyperpigmentation whilst taking Niacin?
Thanks

It's definitely helping me with hyper pigmentation and inflammation.
Mr. Crab you are taking non-flush for quite while now, right? Did it kill your acne?
I had the usual results of it seeming to completely heal for a week and then it went back to normal. So I have been taking flush niacin in the middle of the day while I take the non-flush in the morning. The regular niacin just helps with my complexion I guess.
i've had the same results as everyone else. i used the flush kind for two weeks, worked pretty well then stopped. Then i started the inositol hex non flush kind and that worked for about a week then i broke out again. I think that supplementation is a good way to clear acne along with diet but i haven't found that right supplement yet. Currently i'm taking 2 grams of taurine 3500mgs of vit c and 500 mg of niacin a day. In my opinion this niacin thing is not gunna work. And i don't think that the taurine is helping either. I am looking to get some different supplements. What would you guys say is the most effective supplements for the long term?
I'm giving this a whirl cause its cheap and easy. Plus the flushing effect is pretty hilarious. Besides acne I have a facial flushing problem so maybe something good will happen, or maybe become twice as bad. Who knows. I'm also using BP, cause all hell breaks loose if i don't
I have the hex kind as well, but i'm digging these flushes so i'll keep at it. My BP keeps me anywhere from 80-95% clear so maybe this could be the cherry on top? Things are looking pretty good except for a little breakout on my lip which is from me stupidly stopping BP for a week and a half. I know cause while on BP my lip never breaks out. I used to take zinc and chromium, maybe i'll take them again.
jrm209 no tips needed with no flush. Pop it and carry on!
people who are having less and less good results after taking niacin for a couple of weeks, try adding 200mcg of chromium picolinate. so far it's been improving my skin and i actually think niacin, zinc, and chromium are the perfect combo
swits, how long were you taking niacin until it started working less effectively?
also...are you saying that once you started taking zinc and chromium, you went back to good results with niacin?
ive been taking niacin for about a month and a half and i just added chromium a couple of days ago and its beginning to improve my results.
in fact, this article says that 90% of acne sufferers are deprived of chromium
Haven't posted in a while, been on flushing niacin 500mg for over a month, some days i take two 500 mgs, very rare occasion three, i try to be generally healthy but this niacin craze got me eating pretty crappy, and while i did not break out horribly after these binge out days, IMO niacin at 500 mg taken on a empty stomach does keep me relatively clear, if i didnt pick so much my skin would look a thousand times better, however, niacin is no excuse for a unhealthy diet, is it a miracle cure for me,no, has it helped, certainly, i can't remember the last inflamed spot i had, but i still have oily skin, i still have blackheads, i still get a whitehead here and there, acne no matter how we look at it is a problem from the inside, one supplement a day really is not going to "cure" this problem, take food allergies for example, i've finally discovered a connection between random whiteheads that pop
up whenever i eat rice, simply put i have a intolerance to rice, hence the reason my stomach does flip flops when i eat it, did niacin cure this allergy, no, we have to be responsible in our diets and be healthy people active people, cheese fries and pints of ice cream may be good and tasty, but over time they just lead to the same health problem that plague western society today, did niacin give me
the ability to have a plate of regular pasta and sauce and not break out or think about how i am going to be breaking out, i think so, does it give me a excuse to eat nothing but total crap all day and night, no, i should never need that excuse , im getting back on my health kick not for my acne but more for myself and my desire to be better than the rest of the sheep in this world
in short, flushing niacin has helped my skin, is it a cure all, no, but from what i've noticed the only friend i have with perfect skin has been on accutane, 3 times, and his acne is coming back again, everyone else gets their spots here and there. be responsible for your health and it will pay you back in the end, and if it doesn't i am all out of ideas
I agree with Swits...
I too am taking Niacin NO flush 500 mg along with Chromium and Zinc, I also added in a B Complex 50, magnesium and Vitamin C. This along with a good diet has been keeping my face much better. Been on Niacin for about 6 weeks. A couple flare ups here and there, but definitly much better over all. I stopped taking Tetra for the last 2 1/2 weeks which I'm very happy about.
No, Niacin is not a miracle, but I would say it's an excellent weapon in the acne battle. Combined with healthy diet and good digestive supplements. I found that my food alergy that I have trouble with is Avocados. I've researched that it conatins a high amount of pro infalmmatory fats.
Where to start...
I currently am super skinny male and am desperatly trying to gain weight. I take no supplements and really want to start!
Someone hepl me and how to start taking niacin and what else i should add and when to take / how to take etc.
I've been reading that some supplements helps speed up your metabolism / digest fatty stuff, does that mean weight loss?
help =[
Is niacin for me?
