Niacin is AMAZING for acne!

Ok, I just took 3 100mg pills, so 300mg altogether and I flushed like crazy. I didn't really get a sore head, but I itched for about 2 minutes. I actually got quite frightened, because everywhere started going red, especially my face which didn't have a single white area left and it just felt really tight. Starting to calm down now, so i'll see how it goes!

Hey people, this is my first post. I suffer from pretty mild/,moderate acne. It never gets extremely bad but it gets bad enough to make me stress out and worry about it.

So anyway a couple of weeks ago I came across this thread and decided to head on down to Holland and Barrett's and buy my self these www.hollandandbarrett.com/pages/product_detail.asp?pid=68&prodid=190

I notice quite a few of the English people on here are taking them as they are cheap and easy to get. Anyway 3 weeks later and my skin has probably improved 70 - 80 %. I'm not getting as many white head's forming but I still have red marks off old acne.

Now I am down to my final 5 pills I need to buy a new bottle and I found this Inostiol www.hollandandbarrett.com/pages/product_detail.asp?pid=42&prodid=187 and was wondering what people believe would be the better option to take? The Nicain, I am taking in doses of 5 100 mg tablets at a time while the Inostiol comes in 1 650 mg tablet. Is this kind of Inostiol adequate?

I suppose it just comes down to trail and error like every supposed cure for acne.

Toon, I take the same capsules and I have a question; How badly do you flush? I took 3 at once and I seemed to get it quite badly.

The likelihood of you flushing pretty badly the first time is pretty high especially if you started at 300mg. Different people have different reactions to the flush based on how they respond to the histamine release in your system. You know how some people have worse reactions than others to allergies in the spring and fall? Well this is much the same thing because both have to do with histamine release.

Ah! I understand, thanks Stephen. I will continue this.

I kind of got a little breathless, but I think it was only in my mind. I don't think it's an actual side effect...Or maybe it is?

Hmmm, it could of been.. there would of been some sorta warning side effect if it was.

I guess after reading all these posts its easy to sit and wait for things to happen!

I feel fine now and the red patches are almost gone.

Do I leave it at 200mg for today? read that lots of people take over double what I have..

Okay, I'm warning: When taking niacin, DO NOT TAKE ANY ALCOHOL. It's very bad combination for your health and also for acne! When I started taking niacinamide, it began to clear me up slowly and then weekend came so I decided to take couple of beers. Later that night I began to feel very cold and sick, and there was dozens of zits forming all over my face. Ok so I quit taking the niacin thinking it's bad.

Recently I started taking inositol hexanicotinate and started to clear up again... Last evening I took only 1 beer and started to get same symptoms but not so bad. Formed a lot small zits, also to my back. So I'm quite sure it's the combination that caused it.

So STAY AWAY FROM ALCOHOL WHEN TAKING NIACIN

It's extremely bad combination for your health!

Hey Rawhide,,,

That sucks,,,,, I heard it's not the best thing for your liver to drink and take Niacin. I did it and didn't suffer any of the side effects rawhide did. But that's me, and that was him. i guess you'll have to discover on your own what happens.

I don't know if this has been addressed or not, but has anyone had any "gastrointestinal" problems with Niacin? I've been taking it for a little over 2 weeks & since about the 4th day i've been having very violent bathroom excursions. I read on the internet that the flushing & stomach upset are both side effects that wane after a couple weeks of use, but i'd like to hear testimonials from you folks.

was there an "adjustment" period for you all?

should i try taking it with meals instead of an empty stomach right before bed?

should i drink a big glass of water with it?

I've been taking 1 or 2 300MG pills, started with 1 a night & now alternating between 1 & 2.

The sad part is that i really don't want to stop taking niacin because its been wonderful for my skin so far, almost unbelievably so.

I've been having "gastrointestinal issues" along with headaches and faintness for about a month now. I also burp a lot, which admittedly was pretty funny at first but is just annoying now. I went to a doctor and they couldn't find out the cause. Stumped, I looked back my log- turns out I started taking niacin a few days before the problems began, if I recorded the start date correctly. I continued to take it up until yesterday to see if I would "adjust," but no dice. So I stopped.

Are you taking it in the form of inositol hexanicotinate? I took mine with meals and a lot of water and I still think it's what made me sick. Maybe try a lower dose?

I may try this, but I have a few questions first.

1. How long should it take before I get noticable results?

2. I usually take my supplements once a day about an hour or two before I go to bed. Should I just take it then?

3. It is okay if I just start off with the 500mg or is it necessary to start with a lighter dose?

When i first took Niacin, I took a 500mg pill (Flush kind) right off the bat. Needles to say, within 30 minutes I was on the floor crippling with stomach pain. The second time I took it I didn't experience this though. By the 3rd time I wasn't flushing anymore either.

I take mine right after breakfast.

I always do. With pills, the more water the better.

Perhaps improving your diet would help with your "bathroom problems". Otherwise I'm not sure.

Niacin should be taken together with B-complex, right? I mean with the same lunch? It should be more efficient that way.

Since the B-vitamins are water soluble, if you split them up, they wouldn't be in you system at the same time. The b-complex you took at breakfast wouldn't be around when you take the Niacin at dinner or bedtime.

Gotcha, got to take them together then.

I've been taking two B-complex pills for quite a while now. I don't even think I need that much because my urine is always super yellow after taking a pill, and I do drink a lot of water.

Anyway, I've been on a non-sugar diet for a bit now (I ate my first apple yesterday in three weeks - the sweetest thing I've had!). Seems to be working, I only have two whiteheads left and the red marks are healing pretty fast as well. I hope my Niacin arrives on Monday otherwise I won't have any acne to kill!

I've also been taking Taurine, if anyone cares, I don't know if it's working or not. What I do know is that it has caused my diarrhea, and it's starting to get annoying. B5 did the same, nothing else.

You wouldn't with niacinamide because niacinamide doesn't have side effects like niacin.

FLUSHING NIACIN IS THE ONLY THING THAT WORKS FOR ME...

NO FLUSH= NO RESULTS FOR ME

AT LEAST THAT HAS BEEN MY EXPERIENCE

WHEN I FLUSH WITH NIACIN ON A REGULAR BASIS @500 MG A DAY, I CAN EAT DEEP FRIED SHIT AND PIZZAS ALL DAY AND MY SKIN WILL BE PERFECT NO BREAK OUTS

I CAN EVEN DRINK 8-10 SUPER WHEATY UNFILTERED BEERS FILLED WITH GLUTEN AND I WONT GET ANY BREAKOUTS WHEN I STAY WITH MY DAILY 500 MG FLUSH

PRETTY AWESOME NEVER EXPERIENCE NOTHIN LIKE THIS FOR RESULTS TO LEAD A NORMAL LIFE IN THE YEARS I HAVE BEEN BATTLING ACNE...

I AM 24 NOW... AND WITHOUT ACNE NOW, IM BOUT TO TAKE OVER THIS BITCH ASS WORLD ! :surprised:

I think I'm going to try this. I do know that as a topical, it's pretty good at healing breakouts.

Hey everyone.

So I tried the no-flush niacin and got no results. It seemed to almost get worse, but that was probably related to other things.

Then I went to the health food store looking for DIM (as suggested by Brenton) however, they were selling it for $21 for a months supply, which was A) out of my price range (I literally did not have enough money) and B) About twice as much as I've seen most other people get it. What BS, right? Oh well. So they had some flush niacin for much less, so what the heck, I got it.

Anywho, I tried first with 300 mg and got no flush. The next day I went with 500 mg and got a little itchy. I take 600 mg now and get a flush.

Surprisingly I think it might be working. I don't want to jinx it...

I've also been drinking ACV again and being more active, so I'm sure that helps. But I've never seen results this fast.

Topically I use hot then cold water, UT, and if I wear makeup, I wash with honey/cinnamon. Occasionally (on low humidity days) I do OCM.

So basically, I'd like to try DIM someday, but I'm hoping that if I keep my diet clean and keep drinking ACV (which gives me loads of energy) then maybe this will keep working.

On another note of hormones, it's been that "time of the month" for the past four days that I've been taking the 600 mg, and I have almost no cramps. So hopefully this is helping with the cramps. It might also be the ACV being anti-inflammatory, but either way, it makes me mucho happy.

I don't get this. One week everyone is having success with the No-Flush, the next week only the Flush kind is working.
