I bought Origin and it's only $6 at Target! It's also the inositol hexanicotinate kind. Not sure about results yet as I've only been taking it for 1 day. ;)

thats perfectly fine. The no flush kind is time-relelased so it stays in the liver longer while getting released bits at a time.

Not necessarily. Not all of the no-flush Niacins are time release-mine isn't. Shoot, if it were, I wouldn't be taking it. No need to screw up my 16 year old liver...

;)

my good results are starting to fade away. i don't know why but it's weird how its slowly working less and less. since i've been pretty much taking it the longest here, it'll be interesting to see if people report the same thing in a week or two.

Maybe you need higher dosages as someone said here.

That's really a bummer to hear. Especially since I have seen other people say it as well. Good results for a few weeks and then it just doesn't work anymore. It's kind of discouraging since I just started to take this stuff.

maybe it has something to do with INH and liver toxicity. whatever, its still controlling my oil and ill continue to take it. if my acne gets real bad ill stop for a month and then try to take it again. maybe you need to take breaks or something.

Maybe alternate the flush and no flush on a week to week basis.

Hey guys, just bought the following:

http://www.hollandandbarrett.com/pages/pro...tail.asp?pid=68

It has nothing to do with this "Inositol" as far as I can see. Does it matter? Also, it claims that I should take one a day with my main meal, but they're only 100mg capsules. So taking 5 of these would be like overdosing, but I guess it's accpetable with Niacin, right?

Thanks :)

No it doesn't matter. What you bought is just the regular Flush form of Niacin. The kind with Inositol is simply niacin esters encapsulated with inositol so that the niacin isn't released all at once causing the flushing effect. And yes you will need to take 5 of those to get the 500mg dose. You can start out at 100mg and work your way up until you get the desired improvement. You don't have to take exactly 500mg but you may not notice much difference until you reach higher doses. People take 1500-3000mg doses of niacin for different health reasons without experiencing liver toxicity but you want to be monitored by a doctor when taking large doses.

Has anyone tried crushing the tablets and using it as a paste to apply to the face? I've read that nicotinamide is a skin lightener and can help with red marks.

I know niacinamide is good for applying directly on the skin and that's why they put it in cosmetics but i'm not sure if niacin itself will have the same effect when applied topically.

It may have to do with the niacin depleting a cofactor or something after a period of high doses that causes you to stop getting the same improvements you did at the beginning. I was just doing some research online a few minutes ago to see if there was anything really noted to being depleted by niacin intake and CoQ10 is said to be one thing that is. Just need to do some more research on it though. Googling "niacin depletes" should gather some info.

Here is a good article I just ran across to read about the niacin flush and how it's suppose to deplete histamine stores:

im about to start this but i have a couple of questions...if anybody can answer any of them i would greatly greatly appreciate it!

1. what kind should i get, no flush or flush? or inositol hex?

2. should i start with a lower dose or can i start with the 500 mg dose right away?

3. are there any negative effects if this is used long term?

4. i am just about to go off antibiotics (solodyn) and i heard going off something like that can cause this huge breakout...do you think niacin will help stop it?

5. how long does this work for people? most people on here have only been on it for weeks...hopefully this lasts for months and that our bodies dont build immunity to it...what has the longest someone has had success with this so far?

I was just wondering how much Niacin is too much? I am taking 500 mg of Niacin already and I want to take a B-Complex that contains 100 mg of Niacin. So that would be 600 mg total. Would that be too much?

I see, thanks very much Stephen. I appreciate it!

I got a little worried because it says on the carton not to exceed the daily amount, which is 1 100mg capsule.

Anyway, I have an important question guys. Should I take 5 100mg pills at once? Or spread them evenly throughout the day?

Any help would be great...

Swits, how long have you been taking it? I've been on it for over a month now, and my skin has only improved and then pretty much stayed clear. If you've been in on it for longer, I'm just interested in knowing whether it could stop working after a certain amount of time.

You should take them all at once but you probably want to take just 100mg the first time see how it goes. Then work your way up 100mg or 200mg over several days to see how you react to the flush. Some people have a more severe flushing effect due to their reaction to histamine and possibly even the amount of toxins they have in their body and the flush effect can cause headaches, chilling, weakness, ect outside of just the sunburn sensation. All of the effects are temporary but they can be uncomfortable if your one of those people that react more intensely to the flush.

The first day, I just took the one and it didn't effect me. Yesterday, I took 3 at different times, but I didn't expierience any flushing and i'm using the flush type. I've already took 2 today, so i'll take my other 3 all together tonight.

Thanks a bunch for the help, Stephen :)

Hey people, this is my first post. I suffer from pretty mild/,moderate acne. It never gets extremely bad but it gets bad enough to make me stress out and worry about it.

So anyway a couple of weeks ago I came across this thread and decided to head on down to Holland and Barrett's and buy my self these [removed]

I notice quite a few of the English people on here are taking them as they are cheap and easy to get. Anyway 3 weeks later and my skin has probably improved 70 - 80 %. I'm not getting as many white head's forming but I still have red marks off old acne.

Now I am down to my final 5 pills I need to buy a new bottle and I found this Inostiol [removed] and was wondering what people believe would be the better option to take? The Nicain, I am taking in doses of 5 100 mg tablets at a time while the Inostiol comes in 1 650 mg tablet. Is this kind of Inostiol adequate?

I suppose it just comes down to trail and error like every supposed cure for acne.

The inositol in the No Flush niacin supplements some are taking in this thread is only around 135-140mg for a 500mg dose of niacin. The inositol in the No Flush is used to encapsulate the niacin so that it's not released all at once but they are still taking primarily niacin (6:1 molecular ratio), not just inositol. I suggest you stick to what you're taking now since it's working for you.

Nobody that I've seen has yet tried Inositol supplements on here. I may get some myself next time I have the chance.
