I'll explain this through the Taoist perspective. It may sound outdated, but I think there is some wisdom to listening to the ancients.
Think of ejaculation (especially masturbation) as a drainage, as a leak of energy -- ancients thought it was worse than draining blood. So repetitive ejaculation is a shock to the system, as your system does not have time to recover. If you are healthy, than you can indulge more. But if you are sick, trying to heal, than ejaculation is more harmful.
But don't get me wrong: Taoist masters never encouraged abstinence like all you guys are doing. They encouraged occasional ejaculation. They, too, believed in the saying, "use it or lose it." That said, you must consider the state of your body before you ejaculation. Am I eating well? Am I sick? Am I in a state of healing? Stephen Chang (an expert of tao sexology) recommends Frequency of Ejaculation= Age x. 2
Does the view that ejaculation is drainage have any scientific rationale? Yes. After ejaculation, your prolactin levels shoot up; your dopamine levels drop; the androgen receptors density decreases in the brain; you deplete yourself of zinc, DHA, and other important nutrients that may be important in healing. The collection of these neurohormonal and bodily changes causes you to feel tired, exhausted, drained. Ever think why you roll over and sleep after ejaculation? Taoists called this phenomenon "little death."
A study came out in 1992. Nematodes have comparable sexual function as that of humans. So scientists made a test, with three groups: 1. nematodes who mated all they wanted 2. nematodes who were monks (no sex ) 3. nematodes who could have sex but didn't produce sperm.
They saw that the lifespan of these three worms varied greatly. Guess who lived longest? The monk worms lived way longer than the worms who engaged in sex. And the worms who engaged in sex but didn't produce sperm --they outlived all groups. Ironically, this phenomenon may explain why taoists teach orgasm without ejaculation.
So this study shows that --contrary to what scientists say-- that sperm production requires lots of energy and comes at a "price." You know how it goes: nothing in life is free.
What about nocturnal emissions? I'd been going strong for a week, and now this... Does this mean I have to start over?

Ok guys, I have some good news.
Basically, after finding out that masturbation was related to my breakouts, doing the abstaining thing a few times for many weeks at a time and so on, and understanding that masturbation was my trigger, I suddenly broke out one day after around 12 days of abstaining It was just a big pimple on the cheek, after drinking some beer. Anyway this made me angry because I was past the 7 days of abstaining and it usually got better afterwards, so I think the beer broke me out, and this is not surprising for me because it makes my skin feel like crap a few minutes after drinking, around an hour later at most. That's why I rarely drink.
Anyway, the following weekend I said "screw it!" and masturbated anyway. I don't recall when I masturbated again, but I did so again in the same week. But I decided to double my dose of beta-carotene supplements (from what I understand, it contains beta-carotene and vitamin A). Usually I just took only one, but decided to take two instead, every morning.
Well I noticed I wasn't breaking out, even after masturbating every two or three days. Since then I have continued to masturbate, and I've noticed that if I DO masturbate two days in a row or more, my skin reacts, and I will break out mainly on my chin and nose, but in a much more subdued level than before. Basically, it's not major enough to make me stop, but I'd say I'll keep it down to twice a week no more.
Another thing I've been doing is working out more, even sometimes taking a break and not working out as much for a week, but I try to at least not become completely lethargic.
And since this week, I've started taking one pumpkin seed oil supplement and one saw palmetto supplement a day (even if it says to take more), and went back to one beta-carotene supplement instead of two (cause I'm running out of them).
So basically, I didn't have any more breakouts even if I have been masturbating often, which is very surprising considering how much it used to make me break out.
So I associate this to: working out more regularly, which I think must help because sexual activity usually implies physical activity, something masturbation doesn't. Taking the beta-carotene (it says it contains vitamin A too) supplement. And now the saw palmetto and pumpkin seed oil supplement, but those later two came after I saw the lack of breakouts, it's just something I wanted to do.
So I suggest to you all: work out regularly, and take some beta-carotene/vitamin A supplements. Mine says 3000mcg U.I and 20,000 UI, I guess the 3000 one is beta-carotene and the 20,000 one is vitamin A. I don't know. Keep masturbation to once or twice a week, and never two days in a row.
Anyway, it seems like I'm on my way to finding a way to clear up, and realizing masturbation was related helped me avoid becoming paranoid about food and from using topicals and what not.
Well, I can only speak for myself. But ejaculation restriction has shown so many benefits, both emotionally and physically. I'm in a better mood, more stable and less anxious. My mind is clearer. And I find myself more better at expressing myself.
Physically, I feel much better too. My skin texture improves. I have more energy when I run and swim. And my lower back doesn't hurt as much as it used to.
Maybe it's just me. But my personal experience has shown the tremendous benefits associated with ejaculation restriction. After awhile, I don't even think about it; I don't even think of this practice as "abstaining." That's not good for you mental health.
Chocobot: I think you might be throwing too many variables in the process. Those prostate supplements and vitamin A you are throwing into the mix might just throw off the equilibrium. I recommend you to keep it simple.
1. once every 15 days, once every 4 days...just find your balance! No one is telling you to ABSTAIN. That's crazy. I personally don't do it anymore, because I don't treat it as an option.
2. no washing with facial soap. Only water.
3. no supplements, at all. Isolated supplements are just unnatural--in the sense that most nutrients should be taken in the context of real food. Otherwise, the antioxidant balance goes out of whack.
But that's just my opinion after dealing with this for so long.
I held it in for 46 days!! Although abstaining helped its probably not my 100% cure

If I tried to abstain from masturbation for three weeks I didnt see huge improvements, and then I found out, that drinking from plastic bottles also contributes to my acne. So I masturbated and I didnt drink from plastic bottles and my face was 100% clear and the red marks had gone in 4 days but then my pimples came back gradually. So. Whats the conclusion? Don't masturbate, and don't drink from plastic bottles or anything that contains plastic. (google the words "bisphenol a acne" for more information). Me works, my face is clear, like never before. These two things are working just together. Give this a try.

So the plastic-thing is about every kind of liquid from plastic, dont drinks, what were stored in plastic. You can eat such foods, but dont drink. With masturbation restriction, this is my 100% cure.
I can explain you why are plastic bottles cause acne. I wrote a topic about that. There is a material, bisphenol a in plastic containers, what dilutes to the stored liquid. And its scientifically proved. Google it. Bisphenol A is a xenoestrogen, so it mimics human estrogene hormone, what makes a mess in your endocrine system. So stop drinking from them. And read this!
Oh and by the way, eat sugar, thats a natural material, and your body needs it.

According to my records, my 5th day without masturbation is coming to an end... right now I have no urge to do it at all. The urge usually comes around the 1 week mark.
Oh, and I dropped the 'no processed sugar' thing I was planning. I think it's best to focus on one variable at a time so that if no masturbation does in fact have an effect, I will know it's that and not the sugar that's doing it.
Ever since I was around 13 (now 21) I have masturbated at least once a day. Sometimes it would be once every 2-3 days and I have gone 1-2 weeks before. I have had acne since age 15 or so. Sometimes I would be pretty clear but most of the time not. This was the first time I have gone almost a month.
I recently started on a new antidepressant about a month ago and I haven't masturbated since then. My face is slowly improving. You can't really prevent erections and they don't seem to be harmful.
