10 days abstaining... I'm clearing up, my skin is getting back its glow, something it has been missing for years... I also feel I can enjoy normal things a lot better: eating, sleeping, reading... I'm not tired all the time anymore.. I can eat what I want and don't have to think about my skin or worry about breakouts... I guess my hormones have been messed up for a long time and now balancing... I feel like reincarnated and people are noticing that.... Couldn't possibly think it was masturbation that caused this mess.. always told that it's good thing, nothing to worry about, natural, everybody does it, fun.... but I guess it wasn't that for me.
Have any of you tried abstaining for a period of several weeks and then later had sex say a few months down the road without falling back into masturbating during any of this period? Because naturally abstaining from all sexual relations isn't a plausible solution in the long term for most but personally I don't believe sex and masturbation are equally having the same effect on the body. I'm wondering the effects of the hormones and chemicals when a person abstains and their acne clears up and a few months or years down the road they say get married and engage in a normal healthy sexual relationship with a single individual as to whether their acne returns.
Masturbation in and of itself is nothing more than an addiction which one can curb and break with self discipline. It's not something that's required or something you you can't live without. It's not a natural process that ties in with how the body is intended to function regardless of what some may say and that's no doubt why it gets hormone levels out of balance. There's more to it than simply the depletion of serum zinc levels in the body because if there wasn't zinc supplementation would correct the problem.
So it has to do hormone balance and during sex you have all sorts of hormones and chemicals being elevated and released such as adrenalin, cortisol, dopamine, serotonin, oxytocin, vasopressin, ect. and I think in a normal healthy sexual relationship hormone levels would stay far more in line with where they should be. Because when your in your teens and 20's at which point your testosterone levels are their highest and your throwing masturbation in there which likely releases different levels of hormones and chemicals into the body it likely then causing levels to go out of balance causing problems.

I masturbated recently, but didn't get a breakout since, probably because I did so only once after having stopped for three weeks. But I did end up with tiny white heads which I wasn't getting when I abstained, on and around the nose, and on the chin. There is no doubt I would have been better abstaining though, I wasn't getting any new white heads each morning, unlike now, even if right now they are small.
Also, I believe there might be periods of time during which masturbation will lead to the above, while at other times it will be full breakouts. Probably a timing thing, but either way I don't see a way to figure out when.
I think the idea is first and foremost to get rid of the "addiction". It is not normal for a creature to be constantly in "mating" mode.
Also, I think that sex might not be a problem unlike masturbation; I get the impression that if you exercise regularly it might balance thing out. Sexual intercourse is a sort of physical exercise (well it depends what you're doing), so it might lead to less breakouts than masturbation.
Anyway, whatever the case, I'm now trying to keep it at once every two week or so, with regular exercise instead.
Same here. I always doubt this conclusion, that masturbation causes acne, but I always come back to it. Because it never fails. And like Chocobot, it's 100% predictable for me, too.
And it's not only acne. I feel better, stronger--and more importantly, more like myself--when i restrict ejaculation. I think clearer.
This is my speculation. With decreased ejaculation, I don't have to deal with the prolactin surge that follows ejaculation, and I have higher testosterone levels (look at the study I posted up there). Higher testosterone levels are associated with improved insulin resistance.
It is not a placebo. Maybe it does nothing for you, but I know for 100% that it does for me. There is no way for me to deny it, I have tested this multiple times, it is 100% predictable now.
although this might work, this is a completely shitty way of getting clear. I tried it for about 3 weeks and by the 3rd week my mind was restless. I was stressed out like crazy, started panicking at everything, couldn't even hold conversations right...than i gave in. And now all is well lol.

Yes I passed the one month. Whoopdeedoo i guess lol. My breakouts have been reduced from 25+ to 2-3, and there are no more cysts. But keep in mind that I have been combating candida/leaky gut for almost 2 months now, so that is also playing a role. Once I introduce probiotics (2 weeks from now) I should see a leap in improvement.
Now for those who are convinced that masturbation causes acne you must look into DIM. This stuff is most likely your answer to your hormonal problems. Also, you shouldn't be afraid of side effects because this stuff comes all natural from broccoli and friends. I've only taken this for 3 days now but I already noticed my skin texture improving. There is a thread about this here somewhere.
Lastly, you must be thinking why the hell do other people jack off and eat a bunch of crap and not break out? Based on research I think the liver plays a really really big role. An optimal functioning liver will be able to handle all the "stress" and will not likely call on the skin to help. I read that Glutathione is the king of antioxidants. There is another thread on this too somewhere. Taking NAC and Alpha-lipoic acid will help raise Glutathione to assist the liver in processing out all those free radicals messing up our system. I've been taking these for 5 days and have been seeing improvements already. Digestion plays a big role too but I won't go in depth yet.
To sum it all up, you don't have to abstain from masturbation forever to keep acne at bay. I'm doing it right now to minimize breakouts, but once everything is in motion I'll be subscribing to many kinky websites lol.
Once I'm 100% clear and I will make a lengthy thread about what I had to go through and what I did to fix it; i think it will be beneficial for many people here, most notably those who masturbate/acne, and those who didn't get cured permanently from antibiotics and accutane.

I never experienced that, even after a month. I was doing quite well actually. The only reason I ever gave up was when I started thinking that clearing up might be related to something else, and every time I was wrong.
I'm going to abstain from masturbation and sex for a week. Today is day 3 and I will report back in 4 days. The problem is that my body produces A LOT of semen and even if I masturbate once a day, I ejaculate A LOT. There's no telling how much I will ejaculate after saving it up for a week. I usually also masturbate before I have sex with my gf to help me last longer. My gf wont be happy lol.

What do you mean by "healing?" I haven't had a breakout ever since I stopped masturbating. Keep in mind that I have been getting a new cyst or zit about every other day. Coincidence? I think not. This is my fifth day and I havent had any new zits. I still have old zits that are slowly going away, including redmarks.
I have to do a speech in front of my class on Tuesday, so I'll abstain until Tuesday. It will feel soooo goood! I may have to limit myself to once or twice a week, unfortunately. I HATE ACNE!!!
I wonder what happened to everybody that was previously doing this challenge? Sucks that I'm the only one. But at least I'll stop breaking out for now.
the title of the thread gives it away; about everyone here including myself experienced a breakout about 7 days after abstaining.
I'm on day 36 of abstaining and i keep getting better results. its just i don't want to do this forever. i am already in the process of my ultimate regimen (its been 2 months so far) and my guess is after another 2 months I will be about 100% free from acne, and i can masturbate all i want (although I'll limit myself to 2-3 times a week now).
I will tell everyone here my story once I reach 100% (fingers crossed)
So I (I'm a guy) abstained from masturbation for 2 weeks in addition to being on the regiment and taking some zinc every day and my skin cleared up considerably during those two weeks. Then I masturbated and 2-3 days later I had new breakouts happening. So I abstained again, this time for a shorter period of time, and my skin started to get better.
Today I couldn't handle it anymore. I masturbated quite a bit and it sucks because I know I'll have some nasty outbreaks in a couple of days.
I think that if I abstained for a longer period I could get my skin all cleared up but it's hard. For me I either don't have the urge at all or (and this is when I usually cave in) it's so strong that I just have to get some release.
So I believe that acne and masturbation are somehow linked but that at least for me abstinence is a difficult lifestyle change.
That could work, although it'll still be hard. What i don't get is why some people still say that acne and masturbation aren't linked. Yesterday I masturbated quite a bit and today I've got like 3 new outbreaks - overnight.
So I will try to abstain for one month from now on (Sept 12). I last masturbated this morning. If my skin clears up considerably after this one month I'll introduce masturbation or sex once a week and see how that goes.

I know that abstinence is hard! I'm on my second day now. My skin is slowly clearing up, no new zits today as far as I can tell. Abstinence obviously isn't a permanent solution but I hope it'll aid me in clearing up. Once I've cleared up I'll slowly re-introduce masturbation/sex.
The point is not to stop masturbating or having sex forever. It was for me to identify if it was really linked, and in my case it is. Then from there I can at least figure out if there is something I can do stop the breakouts. In fact I masturbated a few times in the past 9 days or so and haven't had a break out. It might be because I worked out more regularly, I'm not sure. It could come back also, like I said before I think that if I masturbate the breakout is more likely during certain periods. That is the impression I get anyway.
But like I said, the goal of this is to better understand what is happening, and then see what I can do, not simply abstain forever. At least I don't have to freak out about food anymore.
