A few months ago I read about pantethine on this thread and decided to give it a try. I used the maximum recommended dosage and used it for a couple of months. It DOES NOT work. Don't waste your $$$$$. I am going back to pantothenic acid, which always works (have been using it on and off for 3+ yrs. with fantastic results).

I don't really get the difference in the dosage of pantothenic acid vs. pantethine...

\"Pantethine, and for that matter, Coenzyme A, are but the active forms that pantothenic acid takes once it gets into the body system. They are probably a little more efficient than calcium pantothenate, the commonly available commercial form of pantothenic acid, but they are much more expensive. If you look up pantethine, you'll find that it is the disulfide dimer of pantetheine, the derivative of which is an intermediate in the conversion of pantothenic acid to coenzyme A. As such, weight for weight, no matter if it is pantothenic acid, or pantethine that you are taking, you end up with approximately the same number of Coenzyme A molecules that they generate. Though with calcium pantothenate, you have the added calcium mo;ecule there, making the molecular weight slightly higher, which means that you have to take a slightly bigger dose of calcium pantothenate than pantethine in order to generate the same number of Coenzyme A in the body.\"

He says that you have to take a slightly bigger dose of calcium pantothenate(pantothenic acid) than pantethine, but people here are saying that 900 mg Pantethine is the same as 10 grams of pantothenic acid... Where do you guys get this information from? And why wouldn't the guy who made the study(doesn't remember the name) recommend pantethine?

Would anyone like to comment on this subject. I just recently started taking B5 again after leaving it 7 years ago because of some very annoying side effects like weird tingling and extremely sensitive teeth. I tried Pantethine a few years ago with some success but I could figure out the right dosage. It helped a little for my face but the rest of my body got 100% clear though it was often worse than my face. I'm afraid of those stupid side effects comming back so I want to look into other options. Oh and by the way, I was on a B complex and lots of Biotin but still got side effects.

Hi, i am new to this site and so thankful i found it last week!! I first read and researched Pantothenic Acid and started just last Thursday night, no lie i had a significant reduction in oil on my face by 2 o'clock the next day. If you go to the thread on Pan/Acid you will see my post. About two days ago i discovered info on Pantethine and realized it makes much better sense to go with that. I took my first soft gel 1:oo today. I am pretty confident this will work the same if not better. I am so pleased and shocked at my results. i will tell everyone with this problem i can about pantethine as well as Dan's regime. Not many people update there results on this thread but i certainly will. i want to help people as much as i can and if i have any negative results i will post as well. One big question why don't more people know about this???

Hi, I just started taking Pantethine 2 days ago and so far don't really see any difference on my face. But I do find that since I started taking Pantethine, my appetite has increased tremendously. I feel hungry all the time now!! Has anyone else had this experience with Pantethine? I take 900mg per day (300mg after each meal). Is it normal for your appetite to increase while on pantethine?

It can take a week or 2 to see results. At first I thought it was not working for me too then one day I went from the 300mg pills to the 450mg pills and 3 a day to 6 a day then I started to see something happen. Whoever said that 1 300mg pill equals 8 grams of B5 just was not right. I read somewhere that you body absorbs pantethine twice as well as B5 and is retained in the body longer so I'm guessing that you can take 4 times less. So if you took 10 grams of B5, you would only need 2.5 grams (2500mg) of pantethine to get the same result and so I am taking 2700mg (450mg x 6) and it's starting to seem to work the same finally!

Hi,

This hub (hubpages) contains all the details of using pantothenic and pantethine for curing acne, moreover,

it involves a new way to reduce dose of pantothenic acid to only 1-1.5 grams per day.

Hello All

So glad someone revived this thread, although I wish some of the folks who started it would come back and discuss their progress/side effects if any. I have started the b5 regimen a week ago and am currently experiencing a bad breakout which I think can be attributed to it. I plan to stick with it, take before and after pics and see what happens. I also just finished reading The Clear Skin Diet and was surprised they did not include any info on b5 in their book. About a month and a half ago I changed my diet to include tons more fresh veggies, started all of the supplements recommended in the "after ten years finally clear" post, I even cut out dairy and most sugars as well as alcohol, but have not been impressed with the results so far. Over the yrs I have been on every over the counter medication, retin-a, BP, antibiotics, clenicin, salycic acid, and recently started expensive chemical peels, all to mixed results that have not cured my acne--I am 31 and have had acne in varying degrees of severity since I was 8! I am so frustrated I am considering accutane even though I have no insurance and the side effects scare me. I also recently ordered everything in the regimen and will begin that when it arrives. It is encouraging to read these forums and realize others go through the same frustrations--acne is the bane of my existence! What about that post with the link about the woman experiencing toxicity from this b5 regimen, though? Kind of scary. And what is the final word on pantethine vs pantothenic? My research elsewhere led me to believe pantethine is not as effective...a;so read something about combining it with l-carnitine, anyone tried that? I am on saw palmetto as well, haven't noticed too much benefit as yet, though....ugh... Anyone who has some more experience with this, please advise!

Oh, and I tried that link and cannot access it...

I am 26 years old and suffering from acne for over 8 years. I been reading almost everything in this site and done countless hours of researching on the net looking for a way to get rid of my acne problems. I get the big pimples, sometimes 2 or three all in one, very red and leave a great scar on my face for memories. I try so much stuff out there that its not even funny and even went to see the derm. Proactive, murad, accutane, Acnefree severe (on it now), Microbrasian and laser treatments, BP and ect, ect. Im searching for hope and im not gonna quit till i find it. With all my reading and searching I pretty much gonna have to change my whole life around. This is the list that i made for myself from all of researching.

-No masterbation (heard it makes you breakout)

-No dairy products (I pretty much live of dairy products)

-No sugar or greasy foods ( Im dying for a steak and cheese sub and a soda)

Im about to try the Vitamin B5, Exposed acne solution, Skin ID, Zinc picolinate, Oracea and hope I can get some good advice from you guys about this. I feel your pain and you feel mines. Lets all help eachother out. THANKYOU...

I just started my 10g dosage of pantothenic acid about a week ago. It is working miraculously, and it has been the only supplement/acne treatment medicine I have ever taken that has gotten me this clear. Along with Zinc, Pantothenic acid has completley healed my once vicious forehead, and I now have a nice smooth face, just like I used to have as a child. I always used to hate touching my forehead, feeling all the bumps and pus-filled lesions. Now my forehead is as soft and smooth as a baby's ass!

I like this talk about pantethine, but B5 capsules I am taking are working quite well for me. I am kind of conscientious to start talking something else and remove pantothenic acid just because it has helped me so much and I don't want to take that risk of going back to always wearing a hat to hide my forehead. I really am not too fussy about taking pills/capsules. In fact I have been popping many pills/tablets/capsules in my life, so it really doesnt even bother me at all, as long as I have a nice glass of water I am fine. I agree that it can be annoying, but when you've been swallowing 7-10 different supplements every morning for the past 2 years, mega dosing on pantothenic acid and pill popping is nothing.

That woman obviously is not too intelligent. Almost every article you read about megadosing on B5 boldly indicates that you MUST take a b-complex vitamin with it. On my first 3 day-5 gram period, i excluded the b-complex, after moving up to the 10 grams, I immediately added in a decent b-complex vitamin.

I also think some people have different effects. Alot of these serious cases are pretty rare, and I believe as long as you live a healthy lifestyle, take necessary vitamins and minerals, you should ultimately be fine in the end.

Besides, once I have enough money pushed to the side, I am going to try hormonal acupuncture to see if that itself will eliminate my acne problem. B5 for me is only my temporary cure as I am hopping acupuncture will be my 'full' cure.

Guys I would lie to try Pantethine but those who already tried it is it true that it eliminates visceral fat by increasing body subcutaneous fat?

alrighty im going to take the much more appealing plunge and start taking 900mg of pantethine a day instead of 20-40 pills of b5 a day :)

Everything ive read makes me believe that pantethine will work just aswell if not better than pantothenic acid in smaller doses, and the idea of taking over 100 pills a week inst appealing. Ill post back in a week or two with my (success) story :)

Has anyone tried getting through one bottle while only taking only one pill a day? I mean, if none-acne people only need 10mg of b5 a day, and this stuff is more broken down for us acne people, it might be a worthwile experiment.

I'm curious, Stavs16, did you get any IB??? How soon did the B5 start working for you?

I'd really like to know if anybody tried the time-release from of B5, I want to try out taking a couple 500mg time-release pills instead of a flush of mega dose all at once..

Well thank you for your negative experience. A lot of the time, people post about what excites them, but when it doesn't work, they just move on and don't tell us about it.

I have SUPER oily skin, and have tried megadosing on B5 before. I used the powder, and I must say, it is quite bitter and disgusting even when dissolved in juice. I gave up on it probably too soon to tell, but had some side effects that I didn't like, such as feeling sluggish and diarrhea from increasing the dosage too soon, I guess. It was way too much of a hassle with the powder, but I didn't want to spend to much until I was sure that it would work.

Lately, I've been fed up with my oily skin. It restricts me from going out for too long. My face gets shiny very quickly, within a matter of 3 or 4 hours, even with an oil control product. I'm very self-conscious about my skin and it brings my confidence down. I'm told I'm attractive, but I am very paranoid about my greasy face and don't like going out often because of it. I have some mild acne, and my skin could be worse, but it is only mild because I keep the oil controlled.

I use DermaDoctor's Tease Zone to help keep the oil at bay, but that only keeps the shine controlled for about 3-4 hours. I recently bought Zinc PCA vials from Skin Actives and dab it onto my skin before I use the Tease Zone, and that helps to keep my skin shine-free longer, up to 5 or 6 hours. They tell you to mix it with the oil control serum they sell, but I tried that, and it's not as effective, so I use it straight from the vial. It stings a little, but that goes away once it dries. Now I am adding Pantethine to my regimen. The first few days, I took 900mg - 300mg 3x a day, and it made my skin break out worse than I've ever seen in a long time. I took that for 5 days, and then I figured that with my massive amounts of oil, I would need to use a lot more than that. For 3 days, I've been using 1800mg - two 300mg softgels, 3 x a day. The breakouts stopped, but there hasn't been any difference in oiliness. I've read that there is no point in taking more than 1500mg, since anything more than that gets excreted through your urine, but I don't know if that's true. If my dosage now does not work, I'm going to see if another slight increase after this might be more effective at reducing my oil.

Hey, any news about using Pantethine instead of Pantothenic acid ?

I have been using B5 for years, megadosing in the beginning (6g/day), then slowly decreasing years after years, not because of any side effect but because I felt like taking such dosages for so long maybe was not a good thing. I'm now taking 500mg every 3 days. B5 helped a lot, but maybe because I reduced the dosage so much, I sometimes get breakouts, and moreover I'm sometimes getting cystic acne which I didn't before: I have one specific spot on my chin, always reddish under skin, which will wake up every 3-4 months, hurt like crazy and swell like hell.

I'd like to get rid of this; I'm thinking about raising again my B5 dosage but if lower dosage of Pantethine really has the same effect, I'd prefer to use this.

So, would you guys - those who had results with B5 and switched to Pantethine - advise Pantethine instead of B5 ???
