I used B5 for about a year in small doses of around 4-5g. I was too nervous to take the high doses of 10-20g because I really love my hair.

I never took a b-complex supplement (probably would have been a good idea) or did anything special topically.

Anywho.. it took a little longer to work at such small doses, but eventually things cleared up and everything was perfect. I had the occasional zit when I ate horribly or was really stressed out, but my acne was under control. If it wasn't that I had to pop pills all day, I would have forgotten that I ever had acne.

I got pregnant and had to stop taking the pills and now my acne is back and in full swing... my skin looks horrible. I only have a month left until the baby is born and I will probably only breastfeed for the first 3-4 months.

I'm counting down the time till I can finally start B5 again and get rid of all this acne! Hopefully in the next 6 months I will be able to get started again.

Fortunetly I have a husband who understands that this is all a phase and thinks I'm beautiful anyway.

B5 DOES WORK... now if we could only find a safe way to deal with acne during pregnancy... 9 months of acne is torturous!

5g for the first three days, then 10g for the following 3 months.. then you can start to slowly drop your usage.

Should be taken with a B-Complex and a Biotin.

What brand are you using? Most come in 500g capsules.

If yours are only 200g, it works out to 50 capsules a day vs. 20 if you had 500g capsules.

Hi, I have been reading all the comments about vitamin B5 and thought I should give it a try too since nothing has worked on me. I finally started B5 every day 6 tablets, 2 morning 2 at noon... it worked after one week and I got a flawless skin , I couldnt believe it my self! but I did something really stupid and stopped it all of a sudden thinking my skin got better because of something else that I was using so what happened is after 10 days that I stopped taking the tablets my skin went back to its previous terrible condition. I again started taking the tablets ,this time 3,3,3 and it is not working at all !!! now it is two weeks and nothing has happend! I am wondering why the first time with less dosage it worked after one week but now it is not working???? pleeease pleease help me if you know the answer

50 a day seems a bit extreme for me! I'll use up these and get some 500mg ones. I am in the UK so you probably wouldn't know the brand.

Yes 50 does seem excessive.. many people complain about 20 on the 500g pills.. but in my honest opinion it's worth it. I would suggest investing in 500g pills though.

Maybe it was something else or just coincidence. Some people have reported that when they stopped using B5 then return to using it that the results are not as good or it does not work at all. But the majority of these cases tended to be after longer periods of time, over 1 year or longer. I don't know any who used it for 10 days then stopped then began to use it again and it does not work at all. Maybe you should stick at it, a few months at least. Give it a chance results are not instant for some people and it takes a bit longer, 6 months maybe.

What dosage are you using?

A little while ago in this thread I talked about what fantastic benefits B5 was bringing to me. And I stand by that... it did clear me up brilliantly.

But then I ran out, and had to stop taking it for four days whilst I waited for another delivery.

In between that time, I think my skin took the opportunity to go wild, and break out a whole lot.

But I have started back on the b5 now, and bizarrely I haven't actually noticed its benefits again. It doesn't seem to be doing anything.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Yes, that unfortunate thing happened to me exactly as you descibe it!

I haven't got a clue what the cuase is, but it sucks big time. So then I decided to give pantethine a try, but no luck with that either...

What are you trying at the moment ?

I'm still sticking with the 20 tablets a day... but it doesn't seem to be doing anything at all. If anything, it's making my skin worse.

It doesn't really make sense, does it.

It's almost as if you only get one go with it, and if you slightly mess it up - just by stopping for a few days - then tough luck, it won't work again. Bizarre... and really disappointing.

I am going to continue with it until I run out of the B5 I have at the moment -- i still have three more tubs to go through, so...!

I don't know whether it might be a good idea to just carry on with it and hope after a month or so it might work again, or whether to come off it completely for a few weeks and get it out of my system, then start again.

I know the research on B5 is still sketchy. But it's hard to find an explanation for why this would happen.

I experienced the same thing, I used B5 6 (550mg) aday and got a fantastic result then I thought it is because of some thing else and did a stupid mistake and stopped it for 10 days, every thing came back again. I started taking it again after 10 days but this time the effect is not like the first time!! although I am taking higher dose now 9 pills (550mg) aday. did you continue using those tablets ? did it work eventually? I am really curious

I took B5 for a couple years, sometimes not consistent and it cleared my acne (face, chest, back, shoulders), although I would get an occasional bump on my legs and scalp. I stopped after experiencing dry, irritated eyes thinking that it might not be safe, but I have recently begin reading about the B5 study and found some email communications between Dr. Lit H. Heung and a few people and I got a better idea about his theory and why it was the only thing that worked for me.

I've recently started taking it again, but this time I'm taking a B-100 complex with it (once a day) and my skin is again clearing and so far I'm not experiencing any bad side effects, I'm also eating a lot healthier than before. I'm really starting to believe in vitamin therapy.

Yes you can buy it in stores, most sport nutrition stores sell it - the only store I'm positive about is GNC.

Many people have said that it worked for about 1-2 years and then stopped working, but others have said that they have used it with success for a significant number of years.

Thanks for your reply, I will continue taking it although its been a month now and I still have oily face but I think I must increase the dose. What is the dosage that you use?

I'm taking 10 grams a day spread out over 4 doses, which I take with my meals. I take the B-100 complex about mid day (once) because it's time released over 6 hours.

My skin is becoming less oily, which anyone with oily skin can easily observe and I've experimented with foods that I know break me out and found that I can "cheat" without the dreaded consequences of a massive breakout.

I would encourage anyone who takes this route to read the study carefully so you can fully understand the theory behind it, it will put your mind at ease and you may find that it makes sense given all the information you read about other people's issues right here on acne.org. Also, you can help speed things up by minimizing your consumption of sugary, fatty foods. My diet is a lot better than it used to be and I probably would've cleared my skin 100% a long time ago if I had known more about all the junk I was taking in.

I plan on taking 10 grams until I'm satisfied with my skin and then slowly reducing the amount depending on how well I'm doing. I plan on posting pictures when I clear because these results have to be seen to be believed, I'm talking going from lots of inflamed bumps/scars to completely clear. It's a shame I didn't catch my skin at it's worse but what I can take a picture of should be significant enough.

Also keep in mind that it takes time, depending on how severe your condition is it may take quite a while. My improvements began after about 2 1/2 to 3 weeks and that's just the beginning, it's gonna take some time for my scars to heal.

I am planning to also reach to 10 grams aday. now I'm on 7 and my skin is much less oilier except my nose! which Im hoping by reaching to 10 that also will be solved.

I was interested in this. I have a few questions:

1) Can you use this with the DKR? Would BP have an effect with the usage? I'm switching to only doing the BP at night cause of dryness/flakiness.

2) Would these pills be ok?

http://www.amazon.com/TwinLab-Pantothenic-...1384&sr=8-3

3) I'm already taking a B-complex vitamin in the morning, would that have any effect on the dosage I would need?

4) Should you take them right after a meal?

1. Yes you can use it with the DKR, no BP wont have an effect on the usage of B5.

2. I've never noticed a difference with brands and I've used 3, so I'm going to say they are fine.

3. No it wont have an effect on the dosage, and you should continue to take the b-complex.

4. You probably should take them with food to avoid an upset stomach.

Thanks for info, it just seems kind of pricey buying the pills every month I'm 98% clear but it's due to the BP but it get's annoying putting it on

As you can see in my signature i started B5 on the 20th of May, now I've read a lot of the comments on this post and people seem to be giving up after a short period of time? Why. With everything you try you have to give it three months. I take tetralysal. Doctors Recommend 3 months. I use BP, doctors recommend 3 months. I read about B5 and have now got this far. At one stage i thought its working, my face started clearing etc, after about a week. Then it started getting worse. I was then going to stop, but then thought about the 3 month thing, and persevered with it. Its now been about 2 and half months, and the past 2 weeks I've noticed my skin hasn't got any worse. and slowly started to clear. I think i now have like 3 spots. This by far is the best its been in time. Ill post back in a month and see where we stand. Wish me luck. And please give it a while to kick in. I mean look at all the success people have had with it. Just stick it out. Peace Out .

I have been taking B5 daily now for about a week and my acne has got worse. Initial breakout maybe? I have only been taking about 1g/2g though because the tablets I have are very hard to swallow and i'd probably puke if I tried to take 50. I will carry on, but I hate this IB. I will carry on though, and up the does soon when I finish these 200mg tabs.

When you're taking such a low dose as 1 or 2 grams a day it won't do much. You won't get a substantial IB on such a low dose and your acne getting worse probably has nothing to do with you taking B5.
