but what about this? according to this study all that excess B5 is harmful to your body.
o.k so i read Brads thread and taking that much B5 for that long is just asking for trouble!!!lol
once you're clear you are supposed to start lowering your dose. I'm taking the 20 pills a day and have been on it for over 2 months it's really starting to work for me. When I'm clear I will start to lower my dose slowly. I wasn't taking the B-Complex but I went out last night ad bought one with 100mg u take one a day. The company I bought it from says to use a b-complex but I usually break out from multi vitamins but from reading about being sluggish I've had that and I thank Brad for mentioning that because it woke me up to go and get some right away. Is anyone female on this cause I was so close to being clear I stopped using Bp and I just use dove to wash and it was my pms week and I got two pimples that are taking forever to go away without any topicals. What do u guys use??? Do u just let them heal on there own???? Do any other females have that problem around the pms week????
Anyone even come here anymore? I am taking around 3 grams, testing to see if I am allergic to it which I thought it was from my previous post but I think I might have just mixed some things together. But I am noticing dryer skin just from 3 grams a day, anyone else see decent results from only 3 grams a day?
Well I am starting my Vit-B5 course today as I have just literaly recieved them through the post, I will be taking 10g a day for 6 weeks. And then order more and I will lower to around 6-8g a week. I will be starting a blog today. Just keep in mind that I am using Azelaic acid cream to cut down on the initial break out (as I have heard that some people get them taking Vit-B5, however this could be to do with taking lower doses to start). I will keep you updated via my blog on this website.
This website from a specialist (Dr. Sarah My Hill) in many fields from the UK is very insightful on acne. However I advise against accutane for the obvious health risks unless your acne is very severe.
well I'm 2 weeks away from the 3 month mark and I'm 98% clear
My question to u guys is what cleanser does everyone use??? I'm using clear and clear continous control 10% b.p and I would like to change to something alot milder.I tried the dove but it caused problems. As soon as I went back to the clean and clear it cleared up in 2 days.
My advise to all of u is give it time!!!! I didn't think it would work at first but the results are truly amazing. Now my only problem is damn red marks does anyone have advise????
God Bless
I'm glad to here its working for you LEIGHA81! I might have mentioned this to you before but I use distilled witch hazel which is a mild skin cleanser. You can buy it from any pharmacist/chemist/drug store....depending on where you live! Just use cotton wool pads to sweep it across the face.
The reason you start to get clear on Clean and Clear is because it has Benzoyl peroxide in it, but using that as well as Vit-B5 is probably a bad idea!
As far as the red marks go, a quick solution (and extremely cheap) is by squeezing half a medium lemon into a bowl, with double the amount of water use cotton wool pads or just pour it into your hands and rub it gently into your face.
Lemon has AHA (alpha hydroxy acids) present which will slough off dead skin cells gently, and hopefuly (after a week or so) the scars should look better. Also lemon brightens the skin quite dramaticaly (I was shocked at how good my skin looked after the first application!).
Also consider supplementing with 25-35mg of zinc to speed up healing. (although lower the dose to around 15mg once the scars have cleared).
I'm on Day 69 of B5, and I have definitely seen improvement and hoping it will continue. Breakouts are much less frequent, but sometimes also worse in severity than pre-B5. Overall, more pros then cons and I have a lot of faith that I will continue to see improvement as I am not yet at my three month point and most of my improvement has been within the second month. The key to success with B5 is definitely consistency and patience. For reference, I have dry skin so I can't comment on its effectiveness for decreasing oil, and I have mild (but stubborn!) acne.
My daily supplement intake is:
B5 - 500 mg x 20
Balanced B 50 Complex - x 2
Biotin - 500 mcg
Vitamin C - 500 mg
Zinc - 50 mg
And as of today have added:
1000mg of Fish Oil - x 2

ok im on week 2. I eased myself into the high doses of B5. today was my 1st day @ 9gm's. I'll start doing 10 tommorrow. What Ive noticed so far is not really a change in oilyness. Im still pretty oily but there may be a small reduction. Im just not sure as of yet. What I have noticed is noooo breakouts. I still get one or two small white heads every other day or so but no cysts. I have also noticed that they go awy really fast and heal pretty quickly too.
Now, I hope to see some kind of improvement on the oil now that Im going to be taking 10gm a day. I'm willing to stick with it so we'll see. So far though, I have to say Im pretty happy thus far and Ive been off the Minocycline now for 2 weeks. We'll see.
1 thing, i am currently not taking the B-Complex. Ihavent seen a "need" for it as of yet. Should I be taking it? Will it make a differnece in my oilyness?
Good Luck everybody!
quote]I am liking the results so far, skin a lot less oily, and im only taking 2-3 grams a day. It all depends
Im New to this Website and would like to ask if someone knows of a UK supplier for an all in one B5. As, including the complex etc.. Alternatives welcome?
Also, i have read about people taking 1xRoaccutane once a week to keep skin oil free. This sounds like a lot less hastle than taking the hundreds of B5's. Any opinions?
I only need a solution for really oily skin, my acne has thankfully cleared from using roaccutane a year ago.
thanks all
I need some input from anyone...
So heres my "scoop"
Had acne for.... Waaaay too llong. I used to get extremely depressed from it, never wanted to go out to social occasions, blah blah blah. I used the Dan Kern Regimen for quite a while. Worked fine, except i got lots of facial redness and dry skin. After being on it for many months, i developed eczema type lesions on my face from the BP. So i got a steroid to treat these lesions, and about this same time i started taking b5.
It was the greatest thing i ever found. My face was almost 100% clear, pores were small, skin was not near as oily. I got to where i took a maintenence dose of 4 grams per day, and things were good. This lasted until about March of 2008, when i ran out of pills for about 1 week. In this time, i didnt break out at first. But toward the latter part of the week, i broke out horribly. So, i got back on the b5 as soon as i got it. Started back with 10 grams a day. The breakout slowly went away, But as i continued to keep with it, my skin seemed to be getting somewhat clearer, but never back to the way it was before i initially ran out. I didnt seem to have the same oil reduction or anything. But i stuck with it... and everything was ok until Last saturday. On saturday, i was working outside all day, missed 2 doses of the b5, and got a SEVERE sunburn. Since then, ive stuck with the b5, but im breaking out terribly as i recover from the sunburn.
So, basically it seems like the b5 isnt working as well as it originally did for me. I dont understand why, and ive tried varying the doses, ive tried switching to powder form, but all the no avail as of yet. Anyone have any input? Please
Howz It goin people. I think this will be my first post on this site, and have been a member for a while.
Now what i've got to say on this matter:
I have had acne now for about 2 years, and started when i was 19. I am now 21 and my life has never been the same since it started. I got depressed and think that a big factor of my acne is stress. After about 2 months of it starting i went to the docs and was prescribed Benzoyl Peroxide this had no affect apart from redness. To cut a story short i was prescibed Tetralysal 300. This started taking effect after 3 months and i was so happy when i noticed it clearing. but it never fully went and i always would say i have acne. it then stopped working and was switched to erythromycin which done nothing, then back to tetralysal *(sorry to go keep blabbing)* which took me back to the state where i was before.
Now, i have been reading for about 3 days on Pantothenic Acid (Vit B5) and decided i'll give it a go. What is there to lose. Im now on my 5th day, and i cant believe the results. My skin is clearing amazingly. I have scabs and crap from the old acne and a few spots still there, but my skin has like no excess oil at all and i think if i continue will actually clear totally.
Mine cost me like A4 for 100 tabs at 500mg.
I take 10g a day 5 pills 4 times a day and took 10g from day 1, even tough some people recommend you not too. I suggest that maybe 6 grams a day for 2 or 3 days, then 10grams. The only problem with 10grams from the start which i noticed was gas and lots of toilet visits.
For people saying they'd rather have acne than take all these pills, then you seriously need to sort ur sh*t out. I mean come on.
The only side effects i've had so far are excessive gas, but that has seemed to stop today. There are different views from everyone on how long you should take it before dropping down in dose, so im gonna try dropping from 10grams to 8grams after 2 months, then after down to 6 and so on. That way still im taking it 4 times a day but just taking one pill less each dosage.
Sorry to go on or whatever, but you must understand that this is the first thing which shows to be hope. and who helped me find it, the doctors, noooooo. Dermatologist, nooooo
But my fellow acne internet peeps. All this from a f*ck*ng Vitamin. Amazing
Give it a go, and stop worrying too much about it. I mean if your not going to try it then why are you reading this entire discussion on it.
Thanks For reading(if u cud be arsed)
