Vitamin b5 really works... I have been on it for 2 months and 3 days now, and it dramatically reduced the amont of sebum which was really really annoying casue it always led to breakouts... I wish everybody tried it before they decided to use accutane.

well i'm going to be taking 5g of b5 a day for a month then lower the level to just 1g a day.

I strongly disagree that you need to take 10g a day just to make your acne right...i think once you give your body enough of the vitamin for long enough you can lower the dosage 2 fold.

I see you started march the 23rd. Thats not even 3 weeks ago... I think using BP and SA will just irritate your skin more.

Have some patience.. No use even trying vitamin b5 if you are'nt going to give it the time it need to maybe see results.

Hey,

I have just had a quick read at some of the posts on this topic...I had a look at Solgar at my local store and its just over A30 for 250 capsules (550mg). This is expensive!! Seeing as I will be taking 10g at first that requires me to take 18 capsules a day which equals 9990mg (which is closest to a 10g seeing as they are each 550mg capsules...even if i take 19 a day that takes me over 10g).

I have a few links but can't figure out which one is cheaper;

http://www.hollandandbarrett.com/pages/pro...ail.asp?pid=227

http://www.hollandandbarrett.com/pages/pro...tail.asp?pid=40

http://www.naturesremedy.co.uk/page/vitami...CFQ6tQwod82PoHw

This next one is Calcium Pantothenate....does that mean that taking high doses of this wouldn't be safe seeing as it also contains calcium??

http://www.expresschemist.co.uk/product_11...60-tablets.html

Thank you in advance

ahmad89: There is no problem using BP while you're using B5. I just think the best thing for your skin is to quit any harsh topicals while using B5. But, be aware, if you suddenly quit using your daily topical regimen you might break out. If you decide to only use B5 and quit using the topicals I would slowly ween myself of the topicals.

darkviolet31: I see no reason why you can't use B5 while on birth control.

BA88:

Pantothenic acid, also called vitamin B5, is an antioxidant water-soluble vitamin needed to break down carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. Pantothenic acid comes in three forms, and it is alternately known as vitamin B5, panthenol and calcium pantothenate.

I have 2 questions:

1) Is this a short term solution or what?

2) Is this ok to do whilst on Minocin MR?

Thanks.

How's eveyone doing with there B5 progress?? I just completed 2 months and things are getting better I still have 3 pimples at a time but they're usually small and go away quickly. The only spot I keep getting painful pimples 1 or 2 at a time are my left temple. The small ones I get are tiny white pussed spots Does anyone know the cause of these??? Do I need to exfoliate with something. Hopefully someone can help with that

I use the clean and clear 10% continous control and a 5% spot treatment panoxyl.

and aloe vera for moisture

To LEIGHA81..glad to hear things are working...I haven't started my Vit B5 course yet but I will be very soon. I can offer some advice though, you didn't say what your regime is so I'm just gonna give you some advice from a LOT of research that I have done on skin care throughout the years. Cleanse twice daily with a mild cleanser - personaly I use slightly diluted distilled witch hazel, because it is JUST witch hazel and no other additives or anything, using a soft cotton pad to sweep it across the face and remove make up/dirt/oil etc. I take it the clean and clear is a lotion/moisturiser?? Please let me know. As far as the Panoxyl cream, goes, it is very dehydrating and irritating so consider switching to azelaic acid which is less dehydrating and controls oil (IMHO) much better than Panoxyl which is benzoyl peroxide. However swithcing to azelaic acid will require another trip to your doctor, worth it though. Let me know if you are using the Panoxyl as an individual spot treatment or as an 'all over' thing. Some people have experienced problems with using Benzoyl peroxide and aloe vera gel, let me know if you feel 'tight' on the skin, or irritated. Moisturise twice daily, and maybe once more in the middle of the day for dehydrated skin, but ONLY if it doesnt cause more oil and breakouts. As far as individual spot treatment goes, I use Benzoyl peroxide too but only in very small amounts...making sure that it doesn't 'leak' over onto the healthy part of the skin around the pimple.

You might benefit from using masks to remove and control oil. Hope that helps.

I would say NEVER take antibiotics to control acne (not just to you but to EVERYONE reading this) they are very harmful to the good bacteria (and bad bacteria) in your gut and can cause an imbalance in the gut flora and thus deteriates the immune system. This is the mistake I made and I amnow dealing with a yeast overgrowth in the gut, which in turn caused LGS (Leaky Gut Syndrome...no joke) and which in turn has caused a chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS). I was only taking 500mg a day, one 250mg tablet twice a day, for around about a year, which is a long time. I would also advise against taking accutane, normal vitamin A will be helpful for sever acne as well as Vitamin B5.

Just so I know could you tell me what dosage of Vitamin B5 you are taking?

The continous control is a face waash with 10% bp. I only spot treat with the panoxl 5%

Do u guys think I'm causing harm with the face wash?? The aloe vera is the only thing I use under makeup as a moisturizer cause everything else makes me break out. It seems to be doing the trick

oh ya I'm on the one [Removed]

I have a friend I met on here and she had great sucess with this one.

In the pill form

I would reccomend not to use BP because of the reasons I have mentioned, you are using it in a face wash and as a spot treatment which is drying your skin out and thats never a good thing. By all means use Panoxyl as a spot treatment as has been said, but you won't have to use many topical products once the Vit B5 kicks in (dpending on what dosage you are taking). Distilled witch hazel to cleanse your face is effective and extremely cheap, you put some on a cotton wool pad and sweep it across the face, twice if needed. I only have mild acne though.

Let us know what dosage you are taking on Vit B5, dosages are safe up to 10g, Vit B is one of the safest vitamins around, whats not needed is excredted in the urine. Just be aware that it turns your urine a darker yellow colour (this also happens when the body is dehydrated), its nothing serious, in case your concious about hydrating your body with water.

If you are taking a lower dosage of Vit B5 and still getting some whiteheads/blackheads/or deeper spots, consider supplementing with 20-50mg of Zinc (this will take a while to have an effect on scar fading and active spot reduction), but don't forget to also complement this with 1mg of Copper for every 10mg of zinc to prevent copper from being depleted from your body. Maybe consider to start taking an A-Z multi vitamin and mineral, however be aware that this will also contain Zinc and Copper (however this isnt too much of a problem if you work out the total mg of both zinc and copper a day! Also consider using Azaelic acid in place of benzoyl peroxide, it is much more kind to the skin.

However it has only been two months so far for you with Vit B5 so it might be worth just monitoring the spots a little while longer.

Oh and your going to need a moisturiser with an SPF protection, even in the winter. I have been using Oil of Olay Complete Care Moisturising Fluid for a long time and it is excellent, non-greasy, absorbs well, non -comedogenic (wont block pores), added vitamins, and its quite cheap too!

Is it mandatory to take vitamin B complex vitamins with it? I bought the B5 today at GNC but I forgot to get the vitamin B complex vitamins and I just took 5 pills just 5 min ago. Also, instead of taking vitamin b complex, can i take centrum A to Z? It pretty much has everything

PLEASE READ IF TAKING B5!!!!

Oh and excuse the bad grammer and waht not i was just trying to get my point out there not be all pretty.ty

my name is brad and if u read all the post u saw me a couple times. Well i basically dont want to type this but i think anyone that is taking b5 or plan to take it should have in mind. First off i been on b5 for almost coming on 2 years. I have had my up and downs, but mostly up. I can honestly say that b5 has had changed my acne very much. I started out like they said 10g a day for about the first 4 months. i spreaded it out in 4x of 5 pill increments. Eight around 4 months my skin was almost clear and i loved it! Im not bs you, it really did work, so i cont. to take it.. it was like $40 a month not too bad. But over 2 years of taking it you sometimes slack off and dont take the full 20 a day. which didnt seem to bother my skin if i missed a lil. But there was i time i decided to see if i didnt need to take it anymore right around a year.. bad idea stop taking it .. was fine.. then around 4 weeks of being off of it i broke out worse then ever! It was amazing how bad i did..plus i wasnt used to having pimples anymore so it sucked! and EVERYonE noticed..So i got back on it and it took about a month again to get back to normal not the intial 3-6 month. BUT, thats not the bad part. I read that taking a B complex vitamin would make the intial b5 not to work as much.. and i kept seeing that so when i started i decided not totake the B complex. Well if you dont kno when taking so much of one b vitamin you get a defiency in the other b vitamins they just work together like that. Well i didnt really care about it to be honest all i saw was clear skin lol. SO here i am 2 years down the road..My girlfriend and friends have noticed different things about me.. then i started to notice them. My girl started asking if i was bipolar? i tohught i was just being normal then i noticed i wasnt! Then this whole time i thought my memory was so fucking bad from doing drugs but it wasnt! I would notice i was a lot lazier and non productive(i would love to start taking adderall because of this tehehe.) Then sometimes my body would be so fatigued i couldnt stand it i would just have to sit there and rest, also my mental capabilities have been horrible i couldnt think abstractly in classs anymore. Honestly i tohught it was form doing drugs. Then about a week ago i was in the bathroom and i saw my bottle full of my b complex vitamins and i tohught nothing of it..that night i DID. I started researching online, and come to find out i have been doing all this to myself. It really was an shocking and sucky thing to go through. I have a defiency in all my b vitamins except the famous b5. I just want you guys to read and research defiencies in the b vitamins. If you are expierencing any of the following..

These are just some of the many that can happen to you no joke..

I have noticed that i ahve a lot of these. ADD,mental problems Chronic Fatigue, nervousness,Soreness allover,Irritable,Mean,Bipolar,Heart beat is different sometimes.

It just sucked to not put together all the peices ya know, i wish i knew earlier. thats why im doing this, all you have to do is type in "vitamin b deficiency" in google and there is plenty of sites that can show you the horrible side effects of not taking a simple b complex with you 10g of b5 a day.

mental problems

heart palpitations

heart arrythmias

fibrillation

indigestion

chronic fatigue

chronic exhaustion

paranoia, vague fears, fear that something dreadful is about to happen

nervousness

ADD (attention deficiency), inability to concentrate, irritability

feeling of uneasiness

thoughts of dying

easy agitation, frustration

inability to sleep (insomnia)

restlessness

tingling in hands

tingling fingers and toes

rashes

crying spells, inability to cope

soreness all over

and so much more.

----------

On a more serious note..

"If the level of vitamin B12 stays low for a long time, it can damage your nerve cells. If this happens, you may have:

Numbness or tingling in your fingers and toes.

A poor sense of balance.

Depression.

Dementia, a loss of mental abilities. "

----------

HERE IS A LITTLE MORE

Vitamins and depression What is the relationship between the Vitamins and Depression? There are a variety of vitamin deficiencies that can lead to depression symptoms. Correcting deficiencies, when present, often relieves depression

B-Vitamin Problems May Cause Depression in Some. The first clinical effects of insufficient vitamin B complex are mood changes, insomnia, changes in appetite, sugar carving and impaired drug metabolism. As a group, the B vitamins plays an important role both in alleviating depression and in relieving the anxiety and restlessness which often accompanies it.

See the chart to know effects of various vitamins and minerals deficiency in depression See the chart which explains in a nutshell the benifits, deficiency effects, source and daily dosage of the B Vitaimin family.

Vitamin B1 and its deficiency leading Depression Vitamin B1 is essential for nerve stimulation and for metabolism of carbohydrates to give brain energy as well as body energy. Deficiency symptoms include mood disorders, anxiety, insomnia, restlessness, night terror etc.

Vitamin B - B2 and its deficiency leading Depression Although this vitamin itself has not generally associate with emotional states, researchers find that diets restricted only in riboflavin produce adverse personality changes, including aggressive personality alterations.

Vitamin B3 Vitamin B deficiency has been associated with depression ans anxiety. It helps in irritability and other mental disturbances.

Vitamin B - B5 Vitamin B5 is active in the formation of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, which can be involved in some depression. A deficiency can caues depression, fatigue and allergies.

Vitamin B6 Vitamin B6 has a major importance in regulating your mood disorders and is the most implicated of all the vitamins in the cause and treatment od depression.

Vitamin B12 and its deficiency leading depression The mental changes caused by deficiency of Vitamin B12 can raise from difficulty in concentrating or remembering, mental fatigue and low moods, to a severe depression, intense agitation etc.

------------------

I'm not going to sit here a blab on about all of this. But honestly I'm exp a lot fo these symtoms and im 100% sure its from taking b5 for 2 years. And if anyone else doesnt want to permently damge there nerve cells and so on and diagnose themselves with depression/add/mood disorders and so on.. please take a second and say is taking b5 work it? or mybe i should take my other b vitamins and not hurt my body bc over time the ksin will be great but u with eventually have health issues if not done properly.

thanks brad.

So all that happened to you because you did not take vitamin b complex in conjunction with the b5? if you read my earlier post, can i take Centrum A to Z instead of the b complex?
