Keep at it mars I know where you're coming from with the breakouts. I'm on week 4 and things are starting to look pretty good. You have to keep at it for atleast 3 months befre giving up

Hang in there!!! :D

I've been on b5 for 14 days now. First 3 days at 5g and then 10g each day. My acne has actually worsened since being on it, so I'm a little discouraged.

Okay, I may have missed a post, but has anyone done both accutane and B5 and if so, which worked better?

Today i started taking B5 with B-complex multivitamin along with Omega 3 complex, i started out eating a meal then taking one B5 with b-complex then i took B5 every 2 hours and a few minutes ago i took another b complex and i took one omega 3 complex. I was planning out this schedule

morning i eat lunch, take B5, B comp., and Omega comp. 2 hours later B5, 2 hrs b5, repeat until 8 or 9PM then take B comp. with Omega 3 comp. then B5 alone until i go to sleep. I have already noticed my skin doesnt get as oily as it used to be so thats a motive to stick with this. Can yall help me out and correct me or tell me the best method in taking B5 with the other 2 pills for maximum results quickly?

When u first start B5 u are going to break out. I broke out on my forehead and I never get them there. Please be patient I know I've seen great results just after 4 weeks I'm not completly clear but it's a hell of a lot better

As per accutane I took that when I was 18 it cleared me right up and once I was off everything started to come back

I started B5 on 3/11/08 (2 days ago)

broke out around my chin area and forehead is strangely all bumpy now (im usually clear on my forehead)... but i think these were gonna come out before i started b5 anyway

umm day 1- I took 3g

day 2- 5g

day 3 (today)- planning on taking 5g again

im gonna stay on 5g for a while and see how goes.. i think 10g is too much for me, plus i'm a verrry small girl i'd be too scared to overdose like that

oh and im also taking vit E 400 IU, vit A 8000 IU and plenty of vitamin C (2-3 grams)

i am hoping to rid my extremely, ridiculously OILY SKIN, which hasn't subsided much since b5.

i'll keep posting if yall dont mind..

well i just hope i break out after tomorrow and have my acne subside within a week to get it over with. Im starting to give up and just go to a dermatologist but i read they give you accutane or some other medications and after you stop using them, you break out again so i dont know.

My log has a week by week account of my progress (or lack of) with B5. It's 4 pages long, so I've summarised it here:

I am in my 33rd week of using B5.

When I first started B5 I was using the powder. I started at a low dose and by the end of the first week I was on 10g a day.

I broke out in my 2nd week, but it cleared up by the end of the 3rd week.

Around the 7th week, I was getting really bad diarrhea and cut down my dosage gradually to 5g as I was clear anyway.

In the 8th-9th week I switched to the pills.

Over the next few weeks I was clear except for a couple of small spots, which were probably from bad diet.

By week 15 I had regular breakouts again.

Week 20 saw me clear again for a couple of weeks.

Week 23 I had another breakout, which cleared by week 25.

Since week 26 I have not seen one week without a breakout.

B5 did work for me for a while, although I believe the powder and the high dosage worked best.

I believe B5 isn't working for me anymore so I am now in the process of cutting down gradually everyweek until I'm off the B5 altogether.

Although, I do change my mind often and might even try upping my dosage to 10g a day again, just for a few weeks to see if maybe I've lowered my dosage too soon.

Good luck to everyone just starting and I hope my summary will help you get clear and stay clear on B5.

the first week i started B5 i was taking about 3-4 grams a day, now im taking around 6 grams and im going to increase to 8 grams. Im nearing the end of my first week of taking B5, b complex, and omega 3 complex pills and i have noticed my skin can go for hours and hours and hours without having any oil on it, infact today i took a nap and usually when i sleep or nap i wake up to oily skin, really oily, and today it was the same as it was before i took a nap, no oil.

Im on day 17 of B5 and I think I'm passed the initial breakout, so things appear to be looking up.

However, I'm wondering, if B5 works by reducing the oil in your skin, how does this work for someone with normal or dry skin? I believe I used to have normal-to-dry skin prior to my bp days, but I now have very dry skin, copious amounts of mositurizer will still leave my skin dry in a few hours, and even jojoba oil is fast drying on my skin. So I'm left to wonder, how effective could B5 really be for me? And if it is effective, how is it working?

i think, if your skin isnt as oily as people with oily skin and you take B5, you wouldnt probably produce any oil for your skin and you would just have to moisturize your skin. Since acne feeds off the oil, it should clear up quickly as to a person like me with oily skin, well not anymore since i started B5 :)

Hi guys.

I'm back. i posted on this messageboard a few years ago about how B5 saved my life. I'm now 25 and I've only just grown out of the acne enough to be able to take 1 x 500mg panto tablet a day and have clear skin. I started getting acne at 16 and it was the really deep kind which was sore and red and unpoppable. I used to wash my face daily and apply a thick layer of which hazel which would burn as it dried, and it had no effect. Then I went onto anti-biotics which cured it at first but then made it worse in the long run.

I just want to reiterate that B5 worked for me. I found out about it when I was around 19 at which point my acne was so bad that I was in pain every night and I felt hideously ugly. I hate to sound like some born-again christian who found jesus but when panto started working for me it really transformed my life.

I posted my email address ([Removed]) and had a lot of people email me with questions about how to take it and side effects so here's some of my experience:

I did have side effects, i'm pretty sure it accelerated my hair thinning - although taking biotin stopped this (something I found out about on this forum).

I also noticed that the entire process had around a months delayed reaction. Meaning I would become lazy about taking it and then a month later I would break out, then I would up my dose and wait a month for my skin to clear up again.

I started on 10g a day - after about 3-6 months I started dropping the dose until was on 5g a day - which I stayed on for a long time, then 3g a day from about 22 years old. My skin didn't completely clear up until about 6 months after I started, this is when the scars had healed and new spots were very rare.

I briefly tried using powder I bought from ebay. I even bought a tablet making kit with the little empty capsules, but I found the powder would go straight through my system and wasn't effective so I went back to the hard tablets which I found dissolved more slowly and was absorbed better.

I cant stress enough the importance of drinking water. Always have a big bottle on you at all times. And cigarettes and alcohol and junk food DO make it more likely to break out, and that doesn't have a delayed reaction, you'll notice it a few days later.

I wish there were more success stories on here and fewer people who are desperately posting "it's not working" after giving it only 3 weeks. Afterall the panto doesn't damage your body like nearly all other acne treatments do, so stick with it!

do we have to take 10G of B5 a day or can we take like 5G a day and get the same effects? it seems like im just wasting all that B5 by peeing it out.

I have been taking 10 gr's daily of B5 for about 2 months now. I'm 24 and I've struggled with acne since I was 18. My face is completely clear. It cleared up after about a week, and I haven't noticed 1 side effect. My face was always extremely oily, but now I cannot even blotch any oil on a tissue paper by the end of the day. That's how well this has worked. I also supplement with 100 mg's of zinc and 6 gr's of fish oil a day. I recently decreased the dosage to 6 gr's a day, and have gotten 1 or 2 small blemish's a week, so I may up it to 8 gr's. Just a side note, I eat very healthy. I workout 4 days a week and have a low carb diet. As with any vitamins, they are meant to SUPPLEMENT a healthy lifestyle. I believe you will get a better effect from all these supplements if you eat and live healthy. Acne was ruining my life and my self esteem. I am not sad to see it gone. Good luck to the rest of you.

hey,

have used b5 twice, 2 different brands, first vilantae (spelling?) and then skinb5 (powder), neither worked for me. this is so frustrating since skin oil, not acne, is my main concern, and this would seem to be the perfect solution. can anyone suggest any reason why it may not of worked for me, anything i can do to aid the b5 in working, or should i just accept that while its works for some it doesn't work for all. thanks very much.

I get my B5 from GNC, comes in a greyish blue bottle and it says pantothenic acid (spelling?) it comes in clear capsules and ever since i started taking it for over a week, my skin has been drying up, acne has peeled off and cleared up but now im noticing a lil bit of a break out and that is expected from what i read. im going to stick with it for a month or so and hopefully my skin will fully clear up.

first time for about 2-3 months and second time for a little longer, about an 8 month gap between each attempt.

I tried B5 taking up to 10 grams but it didn't make any difference to the oily skin or spots. I wonder whether some people who experienced an improvement got it from other supplements they were also taking without realising it. I've tried everything to stop acne and I'm now wondering if plain old vitamin A is the answer. (seeing as accutane and retinoids all come from it)
