i'm taking vitamin B5 alone...the only side effects i notice are diarrhea and very little hair loss.
You should take B complex aswell.
How long have you been taking B5?
Have you seen good results?
I've been on it for nearly a month and had diarrhea at the beginning and bright yellow urine continuously.

Just wondering, how bad is the diarrhea? I'm worried about constantly running to the restroom during class. =/
Without getting too descriptive, my diarrhea was bad the first few weeks, then it stopped, but this week it has been worse than ever, to the point where I'm thinking of getting off B5.
B5 has helped. I originally started off taking 1gram (2x500mg), then about 3 weeks later doubled it. I use it along with Saly acid 2% every morning and night, and recently I started using BP again (just a little bit) on areas that still gave me problems. I am thinking of upping my dose by another 1mg, since it's been about a month or more. Acne isn't bad, except for areas on my jaw line and my forehead, and I get a few on my cheeks sometimes.

My 3 month update.
The first 7 weeks I took 6 grams b5 per day. The next 6 weeks I took 2 grams b5 per day. My skin is still improving with intial breakouts at the beginning and when I reduced.
My facial skin feels smooth and the gritty feeling under the skin has gone away. It is less oily and the brown marks appear to be drying up and falling off. I have one stubborn mark on my jawline.
The skin on my upper back is clearing with fewer red marks and the upper chest looks more smooth.
I will continue with the 2 grams b5 per day for another month.
My B5 experience - Pros and Cons, etc.
Stats: 28 y-o female, suffered w/ acne for approximately 4 years. No acnes during teenage years AT ALL.
Why I started: Unlike many acne sufferers, my skin is not oily. It is on the dry side and many acne treatments really irritated and burned my skin. Accutane and Differin were too drying - like I couldn't put in my contact lenses - and did not really help clear up my face.
Pros:
After 3 days of taking 10 pills per day (1000mg/pill = 10g a day), most of my acnes disappeared. And then they were completely gone. But I still get pimples here and there now although that is like nothing compared to what I had to suffer. It's manageable and gone in a couple days. I've been on the B5 for approximately 3 months now. This might be a time to reduce dosage, I don't know.
I was lucky to find a reasonably priced B5 tablets at my local grocery store in the health food section (approximately $15 for 90 tablets, 1000mg pills), so it only cost about $30 a month, which is a lot less than all the facial peeling/ expensive derm-recommended brand skin care system that I had been using. By the way I now use over the counter cheap brand skin care products and they work fine.
Cons:
Initially - digestive problems, nausea. After a week or so, they disappeared.
Long-term - Don't know how long I must keep this up! I am a bit worried about the amount of pills I am taking as well. But do I stop and risk getting all those acnes back? I've consulted a few of my MD family member/ friends before trying this, and while they agree that they see no problem for a short-term regimen, they can't say for sure if it's okay for years and years.
But they know how much I suffered for the last 4 years, so they told me to try it for the short term and see how it goes first. Ugh, the dilemma.
I think I will gradually reduce the dosage in the next 3 months and see what happens. I'll report back after reducing the dosage.
^^^I was wondering the same thing as well. I've never heard of the 16g dosage...My research indicated 10g was the aggressive starting dosage.
I wonder if it works better? My 10g dosage works fine, but I still do get a couple zits on underneath my chin and they hurt and take a long time to heal. Dunno what the deal is but at least my face is pretty much clear everyday.

Im new to the forum but after readig this thread I thought I would share my experiences. Id be glad to hear any thoughts! I haven't gone into great detail as i dont want to repeat what alot of other people have said but just to outline.......PS i also appologise for my inability to spell......
Im a 24 yr old male from Yorkshire, UK. I have suffered from acne since around the age of 15 to 16. I have, since this age, had extremely oily skin and cystic acne. My face has been relatively clear and have suffered the worst of the acne right the way around my neck and jaw line as well as my upper shoulders. Oily skin has also been a serious issue for me resulting in a rigorous cleansing routine to try and combat the problem. I would consider myself to have had pretty severe acne, one time actually ending up in a&e as one of the laisons made me feel ill it became so badly infected.
I have been on and off long term antibiotics most of this time. I have been on a few different antibiotics and am now on Lymecycline. This has deffinately improved my acne but certainly not curred it.
Recently I have really gone to town and my skin is now almost totally clear. VITAMIN B5 i am sure is mostly responsible for this.
- I alternate between a few good skin cleansers so my skin does not get used to one cleanser.
- I cleanse twice a day with Clinique scruffing lotion for men (4.5 the highest strength) THIS IS GREAT STUFF!!
- Scrub twice a week with a good facial scrub.
- Use a good mud pack also twice a week.
- Use a matt moisturiser (just a thin layer) this absorbs sebum.
- Take Vitamin B5, Zinc & Vitamin C, and a Vitamin B complex (to prevent a B imbalance from taking the vit B5). I am taking 4.5g of Vit B5 a day. I have worked up to this over one week and have been taking 4.5g now for two weeks. Although people take up to 10g a day I have noticed a remarkable improvement (my skin is almost clear and oilyness has drastically improved) and so am reluctant to increase to a dose higher than what seems to be working for me.
This doesn't so much go into the benefits of B5 for acne but was enough, along with other articles, to convince me B5 was safe to take.
- Lastly Eat LOADS of fruit.
As i say my skin is now after only two weeks on the b5 almost clear and will continue to take it for the forseable future. Im entirely convinced that B5 works and that this has had the biggest affect on the road to my clear skin. The B5 has really improved my oily skin and tightened my pores too which gives you a good complexion. I really do feel much more confident in myself now.
Its also worth noting that with the B5 it has upset my stomach as other people have mentioned and this is now settling down. Ive limited the the stomach irritation by only taking it with food and eating lots of fibre.
