My Experience of B5Im new to the forum but after readig this thread I thought I would share my experiences. Id be glad to hear any thoughts! I haven't gone into great detail as i dont want to repeat what alot of other people have said but just to outline.......PS i also appologise for my inability to spell......
Im a 24 yr old male from Yorkshire, UK. I have suffered from acne since around the age of 15 to 16. I have, since this age, had extremely oily skin and cystic acne. My face has been relatively clear and have suffered the worst of the acne right the way around my neck and jaw line as well as my upper shoulders. Oily skin has also been a serious issue for me resulting in a rigorous cleansing routine to try and combat the problem. I would consider myself to have had pretty severe acne, one time actually ending up in a&e as one of the laisons made me feel ill it became so badly infected.
I have been on and off long term antibiotics most of this time. I have been on a few different antibiotics and am now on Lymecycline. This has deffinately improved my acne but certainly not curred it.
Recently I have really gone to town and my skin is now almost totally clear. VITAMIN B5 i am sure is mostly responsible for this.
MY ROUTINE- I alternate between a few good skin cleansers so my skin does not get used to one cleanser.
- I cleanse twice a day with Clinique scruffing lotion for men (4.5 the highest strength) THIS IS GREAT STUFF!!
- Scrub twice a week with a good facial scrub.
- Use a good mud pack also twice a week.
- Use a matt moisturiser (just a thin layer) this absorbs sebum.
- Take Vitamin B5, Zinc & Vitamin C, and a Vitamin B complex (to prevent a B imbalance from taking the vit B5). I am taking 4.5g of Vit B5 a day. I have worked up to this over one week and have been taking 4.5g now for two weeks. Although people take up to 10g a day I have noticed a remarkable improvement (my skin is almost clear and oilyness has drastically improved) and so am reluctant to increase to a dose higher than what seems to be working for me. There is some good information on B5 here......

This doesn't so much go into the benefits of B5 for acne but was enough, along with other articles, to convince me B5 was safe to take.
- Lastly Eat LOADS of fruit.
As i say my skin is now after only two weeks on the b5 almost clear and will continue to take it for the forseable future. Im entirely convinced that B5 works and that this has had the biggest affect on the road to my clear skin. The B5 has really improved my oily skin and tightened my pores too which gives you a good complexion. I really do feel much more confident in myself now.
Its also worth noting that with the B5 it has upset my stomach as other people have mentioned and this is now settling down. Ive limited the the stomach irritation by only taking it with food and eating lots of fibre.
I'm about a week and a half off of B5 now. Can someone tell me why my oil production has completely stopped? Has anyone else ever experienced this? I'm still getting several pimples around my mouth each day, but I'm not taking anything except zinc and this only started happening after I stopped taking pantheonic acid. What did it do?
Im a new member here but have been looking around for months. I have mild to moderate acne that i hate and just want it to be gone. Im currently on retin a micro 0.01 and 50mg of minocycline every day. Im 5 weeks into it and im not happy with the results so far. I was wondering if taking 6-7 grams a day would interfere with the retin a or the mino. Im hoping that this will be a very good combo for this, anyone else had any experience with these types of medicines? Thanks!!
My experience with B5 has produced great results. I have not had any breakouts of any kind for a month now and I've been on B5 for 3 months. It has also reduced the size of my pores and reduced the oilyness and redness. The only thing B5 has not helped me with is scarring.
Does megadoses of b5 go good with the Aqua Glycolic cleanser?
I have ordered both AG cleaner and b5 (Vilantae), but not received it yet ofcourse (I live in Norway)
Im wondering since I think b5 works about as accutane does, and while on accutane I've heard exfoliation /peeling is bad. So Im wondering if its the same with b5.

Wow, another Norwegian! I obviously live in Australia now.
I haven't used accutane or 'Aqua' glycolic but I use another brand of glycolic and yes, it works for me. Anyway, your skin and body will tell you what works, pay attention when things change.
I would use one for a few weeks without the other so you know which one is doing what.
My early experiences with b5:
I am 27 years old and have always suffered with what I would consider "mild acne." Nothing like a full face breakout, but at any given time I have a blemish in the region of the nose, upper lip and chin. Usually upper lip more than anywhere else, and whitehead in the crease between the nose and cheek.
The dual Clean & Clear regimen (blackhead clearing scrub + acne control wash) really helped me, but never totally completely.
I have monitored this board for a few years, usually checking when I get annoyed with more acne than usual. Well, I had two really bad cyst like pimples on the cheek in the past month (rare for me) so that prompted me to give the B5 a try.
Generally, my acne isn't too bad, so I thought I'd go slow. I bought 1 gram pills at Vitamin Shoppe (not their store brand), B50 Complex and Cal/Mag/Zinc pills. I have always taken fish oil anyway.
It's only been one week now and I can already tell a difference. I have only taken 2 grams of B5 a day (one pill at lunch and one at dinner), a B-complex pill with each dose, and a Cal/Mag/Zinc dose.
Immediately after the first day of pills, I got the extremely, dry chapped lips. I bought some chapstick and that subsided after a few days. I got a few small red marks/pimples above the lip, but as of now, exactly one week later, there is nothing new. The only thing left on my face are remnants/scarring of pimples from a week plus ago. I don't "feel" anything about to pop up either. Usually I can feel it when something is about to break the surface.
Hopefully it continues, but 2 grams seems to be helping me. I'll post back in another week.
P.S. My 100 pill bottle of 1000 mcg B5 cost about $18. I guess that's a 50-day supply if that dose keeps working. I can see where 10 grams gets costly.
i took b5 everyday for almost 3 years. it worked great! reduced oil, slowed down my acne.
but once i stopped my face looked horrible again. it doesnt look anywhere near as good today as it did last year when i was using it.
why did i stop? i was getting TOO dry. No oil felt like it was aging my skin. In my opinion, we NEED oil to keep our skin young looking.
Also my eyes got really dry since i wear contacts as well. The b5 reduced my sedum production and it seems my tear production was reduced also. I still have red eyes months after stopping because of b5.
So i am dealing with more acne now then i have in 3 years. I feel uglier now than i have in 3 years but taking all that b5 just could NOT be good for me.
My body took a huge hit when i stopped (i look like an addict now lol) and i figured i should stop now because i just cant be on b5 forever.
unfortunately vitamin b5 didn't work for me.. what worked for me is topical niacinamide.

I plan on starting on b5,can someone tell me is it safe to take it even if you have eczema/seborrheic dermatits? and is it fine to also take multivitamin supplements along with it?.
Multivitamin is fine. Its reccomended to take b-complex with the b5 also. The other things I dont know.
Ok i just got a bottle of b5 250 mg and i take 5 pills a day after a meal, that's it because even though i take only 5 pills a day it has made my stomach feels horrible and idk if it will help my skin or not
It's my second day i'm taking it and it has already given me a lot of stomach pain.
I can't believe some of you guys are taking over 20+ pills a day, that just can't be normal or safe.
Good luck to yall
