Hello all, I'm new here to the boards and think they're great. I was wanting to know if i could get some advice:
First off, I have mild acne and occasional breakouts, etc.
I went to my dermatologist and this is what he has me on:
Minocycline 100 mg twice a day (morn and night)
NeoBenz Micro 3.5 % applied in the morning
and Retin-A Micro 0.1% at night
Now I also take Regular Centrum for my multivitamin once a day along with a vitamin c suppl (500mg) once a day
Now I have been on the system from my dermatologist for a month and have been experiencing some major breakouts and my pores look to be pretty big with no such improvement. Now I am considering adding this b5 to my current system....will it help, could it not hurt to help...? Also, my derma said that i could use a moisterizer sunblock ontop of the neobenze (benzoyl). For the past month i have been using the coppertone oil free faces with an spf 30. Recently, after i moisterize, even when i barely apply, my skin looks very shiny and glossy and feels oily......not sure what to think there, is it because my face has gotten used to the moisterizer?
So all in all, I'm just looking for advice based on my situation here. Like most of you, i've been through everything in regards to skin care and become very frustrated and insecure.
1. Adding B5 will help? Will it be ok with everything else i am taking/on?
2. A good moisterizer with what I am using, with sunblock?
3. Diff. between VitaCure and VitaminShoppe? are they just diff. brands of the same thing?
4. While going to the VitaminShoppe, what exactly am i looking for?
Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks!
Here's to clear skin!
Im sorry that I can answer your quesions, but there is not a difference in brands, in theory. They're all the same pantothenic acids, AKA Vitamin B-5. The dosage may be different. For dosage, I personally use 500mg because i need to take less pills a day, but they are kinda big. When you get to your vitamin store, ask for b-5, if they dont know what you're talking about, ask for Pantothenic Acid.
edit: Its been 3 days and my skin cheeks are have cleared, some bumps look softer, scarification is fading. Amazing, but we'll see what happens. My chin has very bad cystic acne, so its hard to do anything to it. PS, I've only been on this for 2 days, 3 today. Yesterday I started at 4G, the day before at 2g, and will keep doubling my doses.
I'm in for the long haul on this B5 thing; I've upped my dosage from 3g to 10g over the last month and a half. BUT IT FRICKIN' SEEMS LIKE EVERY TIME I'M CLOSE TO NOT HAVING CYSTS, I GET MORE CYSTS. Is initial breakout singular, or does it include waves upon waves of breakouts and false starts?
I am frustrated right now. I have to wear makeup. I hate makeup, but no one wants a spa treatment or a massage from someone with big red cysts on their face. That's how I feel right now anyway. But I feel like the makeup is just delaying any progress I'm making with the B5.
I didnt take this for 12 days cause I was in Juvenile detention. Hopefully it will keep the same results as it had kept my cheeks and temples completely cleared. Right now i'm clear only have red marks. I heard if u leave it and then come back to it wont work the same. I hope that isnt my case cause I had been take it for 9 weeks almost 3 months. I'm gonna continue and see what happens.
day 80 of vilantae 13g a day, since from the start iv'e seen no improvment just like 10000 more spots and my face is just imbarasing now, im going to try and get a refund, i knew from the start nothing worked but i fell for the stupid website saying b5 gets rid of your acne 100% and all that, well it doesn't its a big con, i don't know how people have actually gained god results from this product, and i know alot of you are just going to say, 'well it works different on different people'
and yeh im just the unlucky one like i thought to myself from the start 'i bet i'll be the so called unlucky one, and uno what i was.
anyone trying to get rid of spots, heres a tip, dont buy the shit people say works, coz the simple fact is, nothing gets rid of spots just eat clean n stick with it.
also anyone thinkin bout going on vilanta think again my friends, SAVE YOUR MONEY
I take 300 mg of Pantethine, 3 times a day, so 900mg total. It works the same as megadosing on B5. And it's safer, you don't have to take so many B5 pills. I heard that you can get calcium buildup in your kidney if you take B5 megadose for a long time. It's dangerous. A person had to get a painful kidney stone removed because of the calcium buildup from megadosing on B5.
Pantethine is safer and works the same. It is the active ingredient in Vitamin B5.
i don't know how people have actually gained god results from this product, and i know alot of you are just going to say, 'well it works different on different people'
I think i started the same time as you and stopped after 3 months. my experience was the biggest waste of time and money as well. all i got was diarrhoea and fatigue. the last month was horrendous, battling blackheads, pustules and cysts on a daily basis. There may have been some reduction in oil but my skin was never dry as i was expecting. I'm going back to prescription antibiotics and including differin gel into my regime. if i'm still getting painful cysts in 3 months time i will attempt to see a derm again and try and persuade them to give me Acctuane.
Not sure how this will be long term, but I've been taking B5 for about 9 days and my acne has pretty much cleared up, what's left (very little) is small and getting there. The only thing I have to worry about (though my acne was only mild and didn't flare up a whole lot) are the red marks (they suck!)
hey I just bought 165mg each patothenic acid yesterday b-5 co enzyme. I don't know how many I should take...in this one that i bought from vitamin world..it says take one tablet w/ food daily....but some of u guys are taking like 5-6 or more and that's 1000 mg. Will taking one or two 165mg a day still help me reduce oils? that's the recommendation from the pill case and I'm not really sure what to do here. the one that i have is 165mg so how much pantothenic acid should I take? or how many pills to be really effective?
Hey guys I was searching the net for info on B5 and this is what I found: Read the whole thing it talks about how B5 helps acne... it's not even trying to sell you B5, it's just giving information on what it does for your body:
Pantothenic Acid General Information
Pantothenic Acid is known as the AaAanti-stress vitaminAa?. It plays a vital role in the production of the adrenal hormones and the formation of antibodies. This vitamin also helps convert fats, carbohydrates, and proteins into energy. All cells in the body require Pantothenic Acid. It is found in high concentrations in the organs. This vitamin is needed for proper functioning of the adrenal glands and is an essential element of coenzyme A; a chemical necessary in metabolic functions. Pantothenic Acid is found naturally in beef, BrewerAaas yeast, eggs, fresh vegetables, kidney, legumes, liver, mushrooms, nuts, pork, royal jelly, saltwater fish, Torula yeast, whole rye flour, and whole wheat.

Pantothenic Acid Uses & Scientific Evidence For
Pantothenic Acid increases stamina and can prevent certain forms of anemia. It keeps the gastrointestinal tract functioning properly. This vitamin supplement also has been used to treat depression and anxiety.
The body produces coenzyme A from three different components: adenosine triphosphate, cysteine, and vitamin B5. Adenosine triphosplate and cysteine are naturally produced within the body through various glands. They are always plentiful so long as the body's not terribly malnourished. Vitamin B5 is the only one that must be supplied from outside the body through one's diet. When there is enough B5 available in the diet, the deficiency in coenzyme A is eliminated. As a result, a person's fatty acids get broken down helping to reduce the release of oil in the skin. Without the over releasing of oil, acne is reduced. If fats that should have been broken down are not, they are re-circulated into the bloodstream and become deposited in the sebaceous glands (sweat glands) and secreted as oil. Oil is fat only in liquid form. Because teenagers have the highest hormone production rate, they are also the group with the highest amounts of acne.

A Pantothenic Acid deficiency can cause fatigue, headache, nausea, and tingling in the hands.
I spoke with a vitamin person, legible, all couses and stuff.
Be well aware (some of you are experienceing hair loss.)
Due to excessive abounts of B5, it causes your body to (how do I put this), I guess export or not absorb, the normal daily intake of any other B Vitamins, causing a B deficency.
Went to another healthstore, for a second opinion, and got the same answer.
Well these people are trained very well, and like hair loss and stuff when smeone has acne, like double gross. So I just bought a multi B, and a 250 mg of B5.
I have lovely hair, like down to my bum, and if I lost it again (it did thin on accutane) but years ago needed that one. Given results. But now balance is the key I am thinking. And my hair did grow back.......!!!!!!!!!!
So given that too much B5 strips the others B's right out. EVEN with another B supplement.
So just weight the risks, a little extra B5 won't hurt, like 250 mg. Plus an all B supplement.
Plus Benzoil Peroxide, may get a result. Better. Am like 95% acne free using Acnefree, and Accuzine so I can eat whatever, but just not large milk doses. Thats all.
I like got tired all the time and was losing hair. So enough of that. An optimum dosage+ a B supplement, you may see better results.
This came from speaking to 5 proffessionals that take courses, and know their stuff.
My gorgeous hair I do not wish to lose, then still break out.
P.S. Esp for women I bought some other stuff which like is real good for skin and hair growth.
I'll try i and post on it if anyone is interested, if not, will not post.
It is a thing for women, but also I got this stuff if men/and women wishing to have nicer hair and more growth and also for those if losing hair is an issue, just ask away.
Give me a bit of time to use it though.
Those darned people at the health stores, (the ones that know what is up, look too damn great. So like they know what to do.) {To a cretain extent of course}.
Just sharing what I learned........time will tell.

Just sharing what I learned........time will tell.
P.s. I do agree but in the right proprtions. Like not megadosing.
Actually another thing, Vitamin C serum like really does some super anti-aging stuff, but using it after aa laser or peel will sow down the healing process........Hmmmmmm came from a REAL Professional.
And after healed, it does great things.
so do your reasearch before jumping to conclusions and tying everything.
Just what I learned in the last few days, Just wished to share.

hey i've been on b5 for about 5 months. My doses has varied between 2 - 10 grams/day. These doses were split into either 2 or 3 doses. I will say B5 reduces oil and stops microcomedones from forming BUT it appears my body develops a resistance to this B5 over time. I started at 2g/day, now I'm at 10g/day after moving my dose up several times over the past few months. It's been necessary to increase dosage because after a while my skin will 'get used to' the dosage of B5 and start making excess oi. This sucks, what should i do? I don't wan't to keep increasing.....has anyone else experienced this?
I don't see how decreasing your dosage works once you've been on for a while. I feel like if i decrease my dosage below 10g, it won't be enough to control oil. HAVE OTHER PEOPLE NOTICED A RESISTANCE LIKE EFFECT AFTER SEVERAL MONTHS, WHERE YOU MUST TAKE MORE TO ACHIEVE THE SAME RESULTS?
I just started taking B5 last week. I had heard about it a while ago but wasnt sure about the side effects, etc. so didn't try it until now. I can't quite bring myself to take 20 pills a day so for now I am just taking 2 pills each with breakfast, lunch, and dinner for a total of 3g per day. I am also taking a b complex and zinc once a day.
So far I have had an uneasy stomach and more vivid dreams. Keep in mind I have read all the side effects and know I am taking it so it isnt exactly scientific and it could be a concidence. From what I have read the vivid dreams makes sense because if B5 increases your energy, and you have more dreams when your body is well rested, you would have more dreams. For me, vivid dreams are a good thing anyways.
My take on the whole B5 efficacy thing can be summed up with money--who here is profiting off of B5 working? Who here is not profiting off of B5 working? B5 is a very cheap, over the counter vitamin you can buy at any local pharmacy--no big companies or corporations are profiting. Of course there are sites like acnemiracle, vilante, etc. who are taking advantage of the opportunity but the cost is nowhere near that of prescription medications such as tazorac, antibiotics, accutane, etc. There have been many claims about how dangerous B5 is, and maybe this is true--but the only person who profits from this claim is the million dollar acne industry which sells over the counter medications and prescription drugs which only "treat" acne causing us to buy their products over and over forever.
If acne can be "cured" in 3-6 months by a over the counter vitamin which is cheap and has no serious side effects--what are dermatologists going to do? what are big pharmaceuticals going to do? They can't afford this kind of cure--if any of them even remotely cared about the health or suffering of people, where are the studies? How hard is it to find 500 people with acne and have them take part in a scientific study with an over the counter vitamin? You are telling me that a industry which churns out millions a year cant take a few thousand out of thier pocket to conduct such a study?
It seems to me that if B5 was truely dangerous, there would already have been studies out which showed this so that these companies could increase their $$.
