With a dose as low as 1g, you don't really need anything else - a standard multivitamin at most (which is always a good idea anyways).

Even 1g is a megadose. Based on what scientific literature do you think that a standard multivitamin is enough for 1g B5?

B5 can't effect your hair that fast (if at all).

If a megadose of B5 somehow triggers an Telogen Effluvium, then it can cause quick and sudden hair loss.

Possibilities like this shouldn't simply be ruled out.

Your body can't store B5 for even a day, so any change it brings about is quickly reversible.

The long term vitamin deficiency can cause chronical diseases. The long term use of B5 can cause vitamin deficiency in other vitamins, which can cause chronical diseases. Chronical diseases aren't usually quickly reversible.

About the short term use of B5? No idea, there aren't much studies done on megadoses of B5.

gosh, you're scaring me!

I take 23mg of b5.

You only take 23 mg? They make pills with that little B5 in it? That would hardly be enough to do anything.

Since, I'm no longer off my chops. I shall say this: I drink berocca performance tablet drink. It only has 23mg in it :S I was going to buy the Solga 520mg 100 tablets bottle. But after reading about thinning of hair, it scarred me stiff!

So I decided not to go on vitamin b5. (I think for me, taking that much 1g or more, is far too much for me) & plus, my pimples aren't too bad, if it gets worse I will definately consider vitamin b5.

Right now the Dan's regimen is working fairly good. Just red spots.

Good luck to all you people trying out vitamin b5, there are some really good info at the start of the thread (& links).

All the best to get rid of acne,

I bid farewell my friends.

oh ok. Honestly, if people don't need B5 i say don't go on it. But it has been a huge blessing since I have bad breakouts and really oily skin/hair.

www.acne-vitamins.com try Clear 5 this stuff is good. You should try it for a little longer than just two months for best results, but I saw a lessening in oil in just a few weeks. Seriously. I really want to know how this works for everyone, I am a huge advocate for it!

Won't I need to take other vitamins also? Or will that alone be good enough to reduce oil production?

Please someone help me... I do not want to go on accutane :snooty:

is that all I need or anythign else? What about all the b-complex stuff, is that already there?

How many should I take of those daily?

Is it safe to take it with http://www.acne.org/rate_item.php?item_id=109 ??

What about b5supplements.com, they seem to have highest ranking on google for vitamin b5 acne. Do they have all the required vitamins...

You just have to do some research about what you want in it. Look for the Vitamins that you want/need. Clear5 I know has other stuff in it as well, but I take a multivitamin, vitamin e, and the b complex and you can get any of those at any WalMart.

ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH I typed up my experience with b5 and right at the end, POS aol decided to shut itself down and restart.

Let's try this again.

I started VitaCure powder (b5clearskin) early Feb of 2005. It took almost 3 months of 3 tsp (10 grams) daily to get absolutely clear. But when I did, my skin was amazing. It was soft and smooth and I didn't get a single blemish the entire time I kept taking it. I took it from Feb 2005 - July 2005.

Then in one of my re-orders, the b5 powder tasted like bile. It was HORRIBLE. I usually mix it in lemonade and don't taste a thing. I tried another bottle and it was the same. I sent them back and got some from a different lot number. Same issue. I gave up and returned them. Shortly after I started breaking out again. In November 2005 I started taking b5 tablets from Puritan's Pride and at 10 grams (20 500 mg tablets) I would get gas/diarrhea shortly after taking a dose. I fluctuated the dosage for a while, and still had the issue, and it wasn't helping my skin at all. I stopped taking my other vitamins, and the side effects of gas/diarrhea considerably lessened. I don't know what conflicted, but something did. I still DID get the gas/diarrhea though, just not as bad. I ordered the Clear5 (I don't recall the website, sorry) and took that for the full 2 months with no improvement. i started taking the puritan's pride b5 tablets again and had the same side effects, gas/diarrhea. Not cute.

Come March 2006, my skin wasn't any better after messing with the b5 tablets since November 2005. I was still having side effects, and no positive changes. I ordered some b5 powder from superiornutraceuticals. It tastes exactly like the first VitaCure powder I used, which was like NOTHING when mixed with lemonade. It SURELY did not have the nasty offensive puke-taste of my reorder of the VitaCure. If I take my doses too close together, I do get the butt pee.

It's weird because the first time I took b5, I had no side effects whatsoever. I could take all 3 doses at the same time, on an empty stomach and not have a problem. I don't know why my body is reacting differently now. I'm starting to wean my other vitamins back in without a problem.

I'm finishing week5/starting week 6 of the Superior Nutraceuticals acne blast (thats what they call their b5.) So far, so good. I'm seeing a good improvement. I'm glad I didn't just give up. I was so frustrated that it seemed that this round 2 of taking b5 wasn't working. Then I read here that it seems common. I think it DOES work, it just takes as long, or longer as it did the first time. You have to stick with it. I'm not quite sure why the tablets I took from 11/05-3/06 didn't work. I don't know why I'm having side effects this time around. But it IS working again.

The Acneblast from Superior Nutraceuticals has a suggested schedule of:

Week 1: 5g daily

Weeks 2-5: 10g daily

Weeks 6-7: 5g daily

Weeks 8 and on: 2g

Tomorrow I start week 6, and I'll drop to 5g. I think i'm going to just drop to 2 tsp from the 3 tsp I take now (1-1/2 would be 5g) to make it easier.

Anyway, long and drawn out, but that's my story!

ETA: the acneblast from superiornutraceuticals also has biotin in it, if that's a concern to anyone.

So i tried taking the B5 first off i was so lethargic and depressed i was worried that i needed therapy until i realized it was the B5.

second off i don't know if it is exactly related but i took it for two weeks and for those two weeks my chiropracter was unable to crack my mid lower back which he has always been able to before. he was asking me questions about my kidneys and urination and if anything was different. he said that the lower mid back will often tighten up when there could be kidney trouble (possibly stones) i didnt tell him about the B5 cause i was afraid he would yell at me but i immediatly went off it. Next week i went in for my adjustment and i was fine. It scarred me way to much even though it did stop my oil production. so he recommended lots of water and cranberry juice just to flush them out.

thought i would share my story with u. take from it what u want.

You're breaking out from the glass of milk that you have each morning. Plain and simple the longer you keep consuming cow milk and cheese the longer you will consistantly break out.

This is true! When I stopped consuming dairy (i'm already a vegetarian) my skin cleared up. There's so much pus and hormones and this, that, and the other in dairy. *puke*

How many people could recommend http://www.vilantae.com/

Does it have all the b5 & other vitmains such as biotin, b-complex and everything or what?

How safe is it to take that PLUS http://www.acne.org/rate_item.php?item_id=109

Is it safe to consume both Vilantae and Nature's Cure Two-Part Acne Treatment System for Males, only the medicine not the cream.

Is it safe to jessfoliate and use green cream while using b5?

But if he doesn't consume milk and cheese, how else will he get the recommended daily intake of the goodness of milk?

I am in the same boat, I wanna get the goodness of milk without drinking it. Is that possible? I'm thinking maybe vitamins?

What "goodness" would this be? I decided that 23 was a good age to finally be weaned from breast milk. Especially when it's a whole other species'.

yeh. i really want to give up milk but having trouble switching to soya. i don't bother with any other dairy produce.... just cow's milk.

it always makes me laugh that people don't realise that cow's milk is actually made for baby cows! a lot of people don't seem to think that the cow's have to be made pregnant as well!

anyway....

I, myself, didn't even really think about it til a couple years ago. I just never analyzed it. I thought dairy cows produced milk. Then it was like *realization* OH, you mean they have to be pregnant, have a baby, then they produce milk to feed the calf. How similar to my MOTHER and her breast milk. Wow. That changes things. *puke*

I don't care for soymilk unless I'm getting a coffee drink from somewhere and all they have is soy. I prefer rice milk. If you like sweeter milk, try almond milk. And just because you tried one brand of soy, don't assume it all tastes like that. There are some soy milks I think are horrid, and some that are great. Silk is probably the most known one..and i HATE Silk soymilk. It's one of the worst soymilks out there. I've found some of the better ones are no-name store brand.

hey, acne is a fake problem caused by the products you use, the more you use the more you look for some help from other products, its fake, when in history books do you see people with acne, it just started probably in the 60's. its caused by people putting crazy chemicals on their face, their face cant handle it and produces more oil because the poduct dries out the face. The best thing to do is just to splash your face with water 6 to 10 times, not rubbing it, and patting your face dry. of coarse with everything you probably will break out again but only because your face is getting used to it, but after that you wont see any more problems at all, not one more pimple , nothing, it only takes about a month to see major improvements. then after a while you can wash your face less and less, and the oilyness will go away too. i dont know if it works with all types of skin, but i had really bad acne and it worked right away. Acne is created to steal money from good people. havnt you noticed out of most people you probably wash your face more than people without acne? do you notice that the spots that you dont wash your face are the spots with the fewest acne and the spots that you wash your face the most have the most acne?

I wish it were true too. I am currently in the process of trying that too. Lessening my dependence on products. Trying to use normal water. So far so good.

It wont really clear up red marks. It might fade them a real little bit over a long period of time, but you'd need to look at using aloe vera/vitamin E as well.

Well I just ordered a jar of the b5 powder yesterday from vitacure.com.

I have a bad problem with consistency, but I'm REALLY getting fed up with my FACE. I'm not so good with pills, the only thing I'm consistent with is my ortho tri-cyclen (!no babies!) and those are little. I think I'll be fine with the powder and I'll choke it down the best I can...

I've read a lot of this thread this morning and I've seen good responses from the people who used this source of b5. I'm very interested to see if this will work. I wish I had researched other places to get the b5, as now I'm going to have to take a b-complex in addition when I could have gotten something all-inclusive. Live & learn.

Hopefully it'll come in a few days and I'll post my responses, side effects, and probably some pictures of the progress (oh God PLEASE let there be progress). I just went out yesterday and splurged and started a new skin care regimen (sp?) - Wash w/ St. Ives Apricrot Medicated Scrub (2% SA), Clearasil (I think) pore refining toner (GA), & the Clearasil On-The-Spot Creme (2.5% BP). I used to use just the scrub w the ultra 10% bp cream, but without any noticable improvement. I liked the Proactiv toner that I used years ago, so hopefully this toner will be comparable. And maybe the high concentration of BP was doing more harm than good, so we shall see.

I'd say I have a mild-to-moderate affliction. I know there are people out there who suffer a LOT worse than I do. My breakouts don't seem to be cycle-related and I've been on the tri-cyclen for my third month now without any remarked improvement yet, either. I'll have maybe one "good" week per month, where its just not as bad as the rest of the month. :wall:

Maybe it's my lack of consistency with skincare (like on the weekends, I go out and party and pass out without washing my face at night). I don't know... But I'm 21, and I'm fucl<ing DONE with dealing with this.

I'll keep you updated!!!

I'm residing in the UK. Which website should I purchase my B5 (500mg) from? I'm looking at quality tabs with reasonable prices.

Everyone stop posting here please how many years is this going to go on? B5 does not do anything what so ever but give you diahrrea and maybe some other unknown side effects of this overdose. Ive taken it so i can make this statement. And im not the 1% that it doesnt work for. If you all want to be healthy stop ODing. If you think b5 does something id like to see picture that shows the AMAZING RESULTS from b5 and no other treatments! THANKS!
