Yes, you can take B5 with anything. I had absolutely horrible acne for over 8 years and I have been taking B5, 10 grams per day, for almost 3 months now and the results are amazing. Clear of acne now I just have red marks. When I asked my doctor he said B5, even 10 grams a day of it, is harmless and will not give you a bad reaction with anything else you are taking. So, you can take an antibiotic and B5 together if you want. But in my opinion, the B5 is more than sufficient. All you need after that is a way to deal with the red marks.
Previously I used a brand called Natures Own B5 which I bought from the local health shop and took 20 pills a day, then I moved to the Acnemiracle B5 powder as it was alot cheaper and the Natures Own went out of business, I found my results were not a good with the powder thats why I stopped. I totally cleared in about 6 weeks when I first took B5, I had a horrible breakout after 4 weeks then my skin cleared brilliantly after that and was good for about a year.
Interesting. Have you found out why the two brands worked differently?
I've experienced hair loss from b5. Does anyone know if the b-complex can counteract this sideaffect?
If the hair loss is caused by vitamin B deficiency, then a B-complex might help. You can also try to take extra biotin (a vitamin B that is often found in low doses in b-complex supplements).
But it's still unknown how hair loss is caused by B5 in some people. There are theories like biotin deficiency, but there's no good evidence.
-Are you male or female?
-When since the start of B5 did you noticed hairloss?
-What dose of B5 have you used?
-Did you only take B5, which brand? or also other vitamin supplements?

No I have no idea why it didn't work as good..I am starting the Clear5 B5 pills once they arrive, I am quite excited about it too. At the moment I am phasing out my BP regimen, slowly reducing the amount of BP I am using each day so to avoid a nasty breakout from stopping the BP cold turkey. I will contineu to use th eBP sparingly when on B5 but I will only use the Bp on problem spots and only a small amount as well. Are you on B5 now Sebastian?

I'm male and I started using B5 on 3/27/06 so it hasn't been that long. I've been only taking the introductory dose, ten pills a day, 5 in the morning and 5 in the evening. And the brand I was using was the Vitamin World brand and they are time released. I'm also taking a multivitamin, vitamin C, vitamin E, flaxseed oil, and just started with vitamin b6. I probably started noticing loose hairs around 3/30 or 3/31

I'll start using vegetarian B-Complex and soon I will take Pantethine (I don't want to take B5) and Biotin.

That's quick, noticable hairloss within 3-4 days.
I would stop immediately, because it might be irreversible.
If you really want to do everything about it, I would also suggest to do a blood test.
This test should for example measure the levels of:
-thyroid hormones (T3, T4, TSH)
-Iron
-Cortisol
-zinc
-cbc
(There might be other relevant levels to measure which are not listed.)
How did you noticed it? Did you saw hair on the pillow or under the shower? Or did you noticed thinner hair when looking in the mirror?
And where did you noticed hairloss? On the top of the scalp? Diffuse thinning or on a certain spot?
i doubt that 1g of b5 is enough to make any difference. why such a low dose?
if you really want to i suggest you just get a a-z multivitamin, or a b-complex or a b-50 complex. they should be fine.

i got off accutane like 6 weeks ago... i think 1gram a day is helping me reduce oil.
also, how do i know if my hair is falling out or am i just shedding?
With a dose as low as 1g, you don't really need anything else - a standard multivitamin at most (which is always a good idea anyways).
You're porbably just shedding naturally, same for the "3-4 days" user. B5 can't effect your hair that fast (if at all). If you want to be sure, count your hairs shed now, quit taking it for a week, and count them again. Your body can't store B5 for even a day, so any change it brings about is quickly reversible.

Even 1g is a megadose. Based on what scientific literature do you think that a standard multivitamin is enough for 1g B5?
B5 can't effect your hair that fast (if at all).
If a megadose of B5 somehow triggers an Telogen Effluvium, then it can cause quick and sudden hair loss.
Possibilities like this shouldn't simply be ruled out.

The long term vitamin deficiency can cause chronical diseases. The long term use of B5 can cause vitamin deficiency in other vitamins, which can cause chronical diseases. Chronical diseases aren't usually quickly reversible.
About the short term use of B5? No idea, there aren't much studies done on megadoses of B5.
they sell b5 pills that suggest taking 500mg - 1g a day for stress and to help the nervous system, and these are liscenced pills. these pills dont have any health warning on them or suggest taking any supplements. if 1g was dangerous then surely they would?
i take 10g b5 a day. is an a-z multi-vitamin enough, or should i get b-50 complex as well to be safe?

It's better not to think about "dangerous" or "not dangerous", like it only has only two outcomes. Better is to think about "risk".
Beyond a certain level, the higher the dose, the higher the risk of side effects.
I think 1g is beyond that certain level, because vitamin B's influenze each other, the long term vitamin deficiency can cause chronical diseases, and 1g is far more than natural.

Adding a B50-complex probably decreases the risk of vitamin deficiency, so it is probably recommended to add it.
Nobody can say whether you will be safe on the long term with that regimen.
Even though some people say you will be safe, they basically make a rough guess.
Is it better that I go on accutane or take B5?
Could someone recommend all the products I should buy If I go on B5.. some place where I can order online... all b5 and b-complex stuff so... I am not sure where to order and which products should I order exactly...
Please help as I have oily skin and I think this will help me greatly and I do not want to go on accutane, I will try this for 2 months and if no result I will go on accutane!!!!!!!!!
Best used with
It is most effective when taken with the B group vitamins, Vitamin A, vitamin C and Vitamin E
Where can I get all the b groups, vitamin a, vitamin c, and vitman e at the same time as b5 and how much should I take daily?? Please list here.
The7, I would definitely try B5 before Accutane, whatever we may argue about here, it's generally agreed that Accutane has higher risks (plus a much higher price tag). From my experience, any B5 brand is fine. I would take a multivitamin also, separately so as to avoid any interference with absorbance. A B-50 Complex if you want to be extra safe (I never needed one).
Krg,
Even 1g is a megadose. Based on what scientific literature do you think that a standard multivitamin is enough for 1g B5?
well, I have been on B5 for about 5 months now and I love it! I take 4000 mg a day plus a Super B Complex Tab. When taking any amount of one B Vitamin you need to be careful to take the other B Vitamins as well because it can cause a deficiency of them. I use Clear 5 which already has some of the other B Vitamins in it (plus some other good stuff like Zinc) but just in case I take the B Complex too. Honestly, this stuff works. I wish I had pictures of how oily my skin and hair was before I started on it. It also helped completely clear up my acne on my shoulders and chest.

Accutane is usually taken for some period, after which there's a good chance that acne won't return. This is unlike B5, which have to be taken continue in order to be effective.
On the long term, this continue usage might have a high risk on the long run.
Even 1g is a megadose. Based on what scientific literature do you think that a standard multivitamin is enough for 1g B5?
There is no scientific literature available on the subject. However, based on the fact that so few users at much higher dosages have reported anything like a vitamin deficiency, it stands to reason that 1g should not be a high-risk dosage.
I think there are enough users that reported vitamin deficiency like problems, that it can not be ignored. They usually took more than 1g, but if 10g causes serious side effects in some individuals, then they should also watch out for 1g.
Doctors actually recommend dosages of about 2g per day for rheumatoid arthritis sufferers.
Unfortunately, there aren't much studies about rheumatoid arthritis with a megadose B5.
It sounds pretty far-fetched. B5 has never been shown to cause Telogen Effluvium, and might actually help fight it due to its anti-stress properties.
A relative high number of B5 users report hairloss. Whether they usually have a Telogen Effluvium or another hair problem, is unclear.

Chronical diseases aren't usually quickly reversible. About the short term use of B5? No idea, there aren't much studies done on megadoses of B5.Just as there have been no studies done, there's no scientific evidence of these deficiencies either.
There are a lot of studies that do show that a number of nutrients interact with eachother. Vitamin B members are also known to interact. There aren't much studies on B5 specific, but it is generally known that a number of nutrients interact. Depending on the ratio's, this interaction can be positive or negative.
To what extent these interactions occur on a certain dose, probably differs from person to person. And which interactions exist for B5 is also not fully known. But because of
1) the fact that a number of nutrients that do interact, which can often lead to deficiencies when unusual ratios are taken
2) the number of reported side effects from B5 users
3) the fact that long term vitamin can lead to chronical diseases;
I think that long term B5 users should know that they are walking on an unknown path with possible big risks.
